Id rather have LaRoche and Swisher any ways i like LaRoche LHB and he plays great defense sign him to 3 years go 4 or 5 on Swisher and then look to deal Iggy for a pitcher
-
Is any rumors floating around about Boston talking to any other FA or any trades or is this the team that we have to look forward to in 2013
-
Ive heard a lot of good things about Brentz. But is he projected to be an average defender and i havent heard much about is power numbers is he gonna be a power hitter or no.

If we are in the thought process of trading for a SS i think that a trade for Tulo from the Rockies would be a good fit... good contract could have nomar potential he in Fenway i would not mind them giving up some prospects to get him. Only downside that i could see is the lineup getting a lil tto right handed but that doesnt bother me as much as thinking we are going to get any production from iggy with the bat. But Peedy said when he first came up he only hit. 190 after that we all know what happened LASER SHOW so maybe they give him a chance but at mid season id hope they would look into aquiring someone like Tulo to be the SS of the future
-
I would rather give Wright the chance than Dickey i wouldnt waste Salty and Kalish on Dickey i dont care if he did win the Cy Young Award i honestly dont nothing about Webster to make a comment on him... also i think the rangers trade for him after they lost out on Hamilton
-
No.

If Stanton was on the block that would be the move that would need to be made but i dont think stanton will move until mid seqson if they have a bad 1st half and shows his displeasure with the team and management then he will be trade bait at the deadline and the red sox should go after him harder than anyone else. Before the seasson starts would be awesome if it could happen and he would be the big bat that the red sox need it would be a huge move to say the least
-
I seen where Jon Heyman said boston was out on Nick Swisher this morning but then i read ttwo or three more reports talking about if hamilton falls to another club how ahrd the red sox were going to go after swisher. So i dont know until he signs i hope he is coming to bean town. If they could sign Swisher along with Brian Wilson you could say the red sox are shaping put to be remaking the team into to fun and intense famous idiots team of old Also the dodgers said they were out on Grienke and then they signed him so until swisher is signed im thinking the sox are still in the picture
-
Is boston still in on Kyle Loshe or is this the rotation as it sits for 2013 Now that the word is Sanchez is heading to the cubs, lohse is a ground ball pitcher and so is dempster i dont like either one of them in the AL East but i think ground ball pitchers do well in fenway so i was just wondering if this is what i had to look forward to And what is Kyle Lohse's asking price?

Agreed. I think that the napoli deal goes thru tho. Probably done by the weekend But instead of swish at 1B id rather see Adam LaRoche signed along with Swish to play LF and then slpit time at 1B but im not a big fan of Swisher not in the outfield the bulk of the time But the Nationals are making a hard puch for LaRoche so boston has to make a decision on what to do a 1B. If napoli falls through and laroche goes back to Washington. I think the only choice boston has is to go all in on swisher and think about bringing cody ross in to play LF. Not a fan of the Gomes/Kalish platoon theory. I like cody ross and i think his bat is just right for fenway. We will just have to wait and see Even tho im not a fan of the platoon maybe kalish breaks out like reddick did in oakland ive always read that kalish was more of a complete player in the red sox eyes than reddick was and had more upside. So maybe swisher would just block the playing time of another boston home grown players. If they dont sign swisher i would give kalish the bulk of the playing time over gomes. Because i dont think cody ross is gonna go cheap and he many have already priced himself outta boston

I hope we have a chance of getting Swisher but who knows I got a feeling swisher will be a philly if the red sox dont blow him away with the years he is wanting. Texas could be in the mix for him as well but i think they will try to keep making a move on Upton and lose sight of Swisher and he goes somewhere else
-
If ells comes out swinging and becomes the east coast version of matt kemp i have no problem with the red sox signing him long term. Give him 20 per if he goes deep for 35 Id like to see swisher in a boston uniform... but ii really dont know with swisher where you would hit him in this line up. With the salary that he would want it would be folish to hit him in the bottom of the order but i just dont know if you could slot him in the third spotso i would like the versatility with the different lineups he could bring and the matchups with pitchers on a day in and day out basis.

Ok ive been dwelling on this hamilton to angels since the announcement was made. i think it was a bad move not snagging him... but it is what it is That being said i think swisher has to be in the picture Youk a yankee and swisher a red sox now that would be a definite rivalry game this year talk about television... I agree with all of you that if Farrell gets the pitching staff back to form of old then the top of the rotation with lester and buch is alright as far as 3 4 and 5 i think the dempster lackey and doubront with maybe some of the young home grow arms given a shot at breaking camp. Lester and Buch were home grown maybe another arm can come up and suprise all of us. Also everyone is saying to trade Ellsbury and myself included thought he should be trade bait. But after thinking about it after hamilton came off the board i thought what if ells stays healthy and gets his SB and finds his power numbers back then everyone thinking he is gone would be like we need him back... ok now with 25million per was not spent on josh then we will have the flexibility to resign ellsbury if he breaks out this year

I think the napoli deals gets done with some contractual language getting signed after that he and dempster could hold a joint press conference to welcome them to boston. Im not a dempster in the AL fan at all. I think he gets hammered but as was mentioned before he is better than Aaron Cook. Swisher is the next best option since hamilton is gone and his versatility could give the lineup so many different options as well. Maybe they will still go after Sanchez instead of Lohse but i keep seeing Lohse's name come up a lot on writes blog talking about Boston's rotation. I still cant see an outfield of Gomes Ellsbury Victorino i still think moves are gonna start being made quickly since the two big fish are off the board. Does anyone know what Swisher is asking price is?

Hamilton gone to the Angels and we sign Dempster... the FO needs to go all out for Swisher now... im not sure that this is the best move to pass on hamilton hamilton but maybe if 2013 is a bust and they finish in last again Cherry aand the rest of the FO will be gone Im extemely disappointed.. i thought 5/125 would be him and its money the red sox should have spent
-
Well said... i hope he does awful just like i did when damon left i understand its a business but i hope he does horrible if will middlebrooks has a huge year Youk will be a distant memory
-
Hamilton does have question marks more than most but still i think with the market showing signs on blaking on his 7 year request is amazing for the league as a whole but i see him slotted in the 3 spot and the potential he brings to this lineup and team when we have an outfield of gomes ells and victorino we dont have that pop when our lineup as it sits now has question marks as far as pop goes... ortiz could start off cold like he has in years past nap could have an injury that no one knows about this will affect the lower half where he generates his power... pedoria i hope is the laser show i hope ells returns to mvp form but he is fragile like glass but when healthy he is lights out... most of all i hope. Tmiddlebrooks hits 30 and drives in 100

Textbook definition of insanity... they have made a couple of moves this offseason to address some of the issues... smart moves that remains to be seen. 8m not saying to break the bank & spend on every free agent this offseason and screw your for next season and not be able to spend next year on better talent... i agree short term contracts for pitching is the way to go agree 100% i think those moves should come via trade this year. But as far as the lineup and the ballpark of fenway you have to have a team that can crush the ball and any given inning be able to go on a run when the pitching lets you down and no matter who the five starters are at some point they give up a big inning so a bat needs to be gotten for the three hole plain and simple whether you are into breaking the bank for FA players of trading to get players moves need to be made and game changing players dont come along everyday and the only game changing player is hamilton he has had injuries but use contractual language that protects yourself. A guy like hamilton when slotted in their at #3 changes the whole lineup

So whats the answer User Name? Everytime someone posts a need for spending money to get players & then you comment "oh no thats a bad move too much of an overpay." This is Boston not Oakland we buy talent to make these teams year in & year out better to go along with our top prospects coming up from the farm. 2004 & 2007 has changed the whole outlook on each season we dont want rebuilds we want championships. Now after the salary dump of s*** players to LA they have the money to spend so let them spend it... they didnt do that trade & just said aww hell we are just gonna be a midmarket team no its not going to happen they are going to spend and i hope they do soon that way all the people thinking everyplayer is an over pay and just waiting the FO to sit on their nuts and do nothing we have the pieces to compete now with a string core we just need two pitchers maybe another pen piece and a bat to hit third in the order then we go from competitive to the head of the class... baring no injuries and the players mesh together so I say spend spend spend!!!!

The Beard needs to be in Boston!!! Papelbon had an electric presence coming out to close out the game, but Wilson would trump that & he would solidify the back in of the bullpen when he is back fully healthy. Maybe after the ASB then until he is back to his old dominant form. Until then let him pitch the 7&8 innings until he is ready to take Baileys spot .
-
I agree 100%... I think that since the ownership has purchased the soccer team it has went all downhill. I wished they would sell the team &in get oowners who want to spend. Look they got out of some big bad contracts. Hamilton needss to be in boston. Swisher a Wnd option if not Hamilton. Also if the Nap deal falls thru go get Adam LaRoche now before the Nationals gets him back
-
What deal is getting Hamilton then? An average of 25million per year isnt enough? The line-up as it sits now needs another hitter bottom line... the whole world know we need pitching in boston... & im sure at some point the FO will address it hopefully sooner rather than later before all the decent arms are gone, if not all the management should be run outta town!!! Also what pitching would you get User Name? Everything on the market is an overpay My opinion is a trade for pitching is the only way to go

Bill James (and any other) 2013 Projections
dupree replied to SoxFanForsyth's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
Although I do respect Bill James & I hope his projections for this year are spot on, which i think are a lil far fetched. Bill James said that AGon swing would be a perfect fit in Fenway Park. His swing may have been but what the sabermetrics cant predict is not getting along with the manger and not adapting to the atmoshpere of the pressure cooker of Boston Also Bard projections as a starter could not anticipate him losing all control and forgetting if he was a right handed or left handed pitcher. It was that bad. I hope he bouces back. Sabermetrics give a trend of what a player might do but it cant predict the mental side of baseball only the physical. -
Im a big supporter of them signing Hamilton. But the versatility of Swisher my be what the Red Sox are looking for. Maybe Swish is just waiting to see what Hamilton gets before he signs. Do you think he would take a 3/39 that seems to be the trend... at 13the per year that would be a steal and i dont see him settling for 13 per
