  1. Mariners GM says Mike Carp is likely to get traded in the next 24-48 hours. Is any new report that the Sox are the team who is likely to trade for him? I know that Seattle has a log jam of 1B players and Carp seems to be the odd man out but im wondering more and more if his shoulder injury from opening day last year has lingering effects and has taken away his power. He was a 30 hrs guy in the minors for Seattle. I think he deserves a look, id be more comfrontable with him competing for a LF spot when Gomes get a day off than Nava or Overbay (i seen reports where he would be looked out in LF).
  2. Well said. I hope he doesnt cause anymore drama. And i think the thought of going to him earlier will keep him happy and also help the team if the starter is getting lit up.
  3. Thats not the report i saw... on redsox.com the report said he lobbed the ball for a large part of his session on Field 4 before he was confronted by the pitching coach and after the talk he lobbed the ball more, than Farrell stepped in for a talk.
  4. I dont think it is an overreaction at all MVP. Report says that Aceves was lobing the ball to players in batting pratice. When the pitching noticed it he talked to Aceves about it and then Aceves still did it after the talk. John Farrell saw what what happening and got pissed and called Aceves out on it then it stopped. Maybe Aceves was seeing how far he could push the new coaching, i believe Farrell showed him that his drama queen half assed workouts would not be tolerated anymore. We will see how this goes this team dont need anymore drama.
  5. I was a big fan of the Sox signing Jair Jurrgens, but three weeks after the announcement of signing a major league deal with the Orioles, he signed a minor league deal with an invite to spring training for lower than the 1.5 million guarantee. Guess his right knee is still an issue. So maybe the Sox were smart to pass on him. And maybe the same holds true with Haren and McCarthy who i thought should have been added to this rotation.
  6. I dont think Lohse is an option either, they have went this long without giving up their draft pick i dont see them blowing it on Lohse who i still believe will go back to the Cardinals. With Carpenter going down i think Boras is just holding out for more money for Lohse. Plus i dont believe he will sign for 9 million, then the draft pick money goes on top of that so that would put us over the cap. So it a no for me on Lohse. We r not one pitcher away from contending, we are in the business of hoping we stay healthy and everyone else in the AL east goes down with injury that seems to be our only logical hope.
  7. I keep reading reports and it seems like Doubrant's weight is mentioned in all of them. I know some guys have a few extra pounds to shed but it seems like he has blown up like Bartolo Colon or something, i havent seen any video or pictures of him so i dont know. How far is the team below the current luxury tax? Is an outside the organization still a possibility an option or no? Via sign or trade?
  8. The season is still young, and it still would suprise me if Youk didnt throw a jab back at the FO and Bobby V especially (cant blame him for not liking Bobby V). It seems like when a player has a bitter taste of being traded away from the team he thought he would always be apart of, a bash always comes out. I hope it dont with Youk i hate seeing him in pinstripes most of all, but money is money and its the ultimate payback to win with your former teams biggest rival. Crawford was just to bash the team for his sort comes and take the blame off himself.
  9. Classic player bash on his old team. All players seem to do it no matter what. Crawford wasnt a fit here and should never been signed. Beckett was on his downward slide and should of been traded before the blockbuster, dont care bout nick punto he was just included guess cuz LA needed a utilty guy, AGon is the only true lose we had but if he dont have power we didnt need him. And if a player is not happy hes not gonna play well. So none of the reports of Crawford saying anything bout the Sox surprises me, i hope the Dodgers fall apart at the seam and the 200milliononly plus is just a waste and dont make the playoffs. With all their additions and big spending i still dont think they are better than the Giants.
  10. Anymore news on the Sox interested in Mike Carp? Was internally as far as the talks went or did the organization reach out to Carp's agent?
  11. Im gonna disagree with Pedro either, i think behind bringing John Farrell in as manager the addition of Pedro was the 2ndbest best move of this offseason. I guess where its ST and all the teams are tied for 1st im just in the mindset of hoping one of the young guys shows something and that just blows everyone away and comes outta nowhere to pitch for us this year.
  12. Yes stretch Frankie out as a starter. Which i think they were going to anyway. I havent seen anything such as videos or pictures of any of the guys at ST other than Lackey, but if Felix is that far out of shape and didnt show commitment during the offseason i hope one of the young prospects comes up and blows everyone away and takes a rotation spot. Im tired of hearing that these pitching prospects needs more seasoning in the minors. Oakland brings the boys up and throws um in the water, hell its stink or swim, if this is truely a bridge year why not let them be seasoned by pitching to major league hitter not AAA or lower caliber players.
  13. I hadnt heard anything bout lighting hitting Ells and Peedy's plane. Everything alright?
  14. Yes and out of those pitchers, Dan Haren and Brendan McCarthy will most likey benefit from going from the American League to the National league. Agreed the medical staff has each players medical records and clearly know more than we do, im just in a wait and see mentality with the pitching staff. I think the long, middle relief and the closing staff should be a definite strength for this club. Most of all i hope that one or two of the young prospects shines and adds depth because injuries do happen. Farrell and Pedro is our X factors in turning this staff around tho. Im putting a lot of faith in that for 2013 and hope we dont have another 2012, or by July most of us will be waiting on football to start and hearing and watching a downward spiral again.
  15. Definitely not an outfield of big name guys like i think a lot of people on this ssite think should be playing out in Fenway, myself included. I woulda liked to see a big name signing to patrol left field more than who was gonna play right field. Center was pretty much set with Ells when health for this year. At the start of the offseason i was all about getting big name guys who would block the big league emergence of prospects to the bigs, but now im leaning more and more everyday of seeing what the kids can do. Brentz is one that intrigues me most of all. I think Ells will get moved by mid season for a pitcher but if not i think they make a huge push to resign him in the offseason if he has a healthy productive year. I like Bradley's defense but im not big on his power #s compared to what Ells has put up on a healthy year. Left field is just a mystery for the future, is any big name prime players going to be on the market next year or is their a prospect down in the minors that could come up and hold down left for the future?
  16. Agreed. I respect what Wake done but i was scared that at any point he could get lite up. Never a fan of a knuckleball pitcher. I think the Blue Jays will regret trading for dickey and hoping he will be a #1 but their dumb move is our gain. I see him getting hammered all year which will be great. I just dont think the knuckleball is gonna fool AL hitters all year. If he wins 6 games this year i will be surprised. I have no statistical analysis to support my theory. But thats just my gut feeling.
  17. I think Gomes should put up very similar numbers to what cody ross did for us last year. He should do alright in left field at Fenway as far as defense goes. Im still not on board with the whole idea of only having Nava and Sweeny as backup options.
  18. That and when the club he loved and played for all his career turns their back on you and ships you outta town via trade, the ultimate bitch slap back at the former club is to go and try to win for their biggest rival. I just hope he sucks all year and has a horrible season.
  19. Exactly. He will be on the opening day roster just to insure him to stay with the organization as a bench player. I could see Gomez starting in AAA with Overbay in the bigs then maybe a flip flop of position depending on how each plays to start the year I thought that Casey Kotchman would have been the sign if they were just signing a 1B. But i dont know what his asking price was and his current offers and what his #s are at Fenway. What is the current payroll at? Is their any wiggle room below the cap or is it just maxed out now at the luxury tax?
  20. Well said. I feel the same.
  21. Ok hold on a sec... Ortiz may not be ready for opening day now? I thought he was able to play at the end of last season but since the team was soo far out the doctors held him out... atleast thats what bobby v said... jk... i hate bobby v But is ortiz Achilles not quite 100% now? I havent seen anything on this matter either.
  22. Thank ya Laser Show
  23. I was hoping the kid could finally get his chance to show what hes got. But ur right definitely a waste of talent. And i dont think they will add another platoon bat they will just use nova and sweeny and i hate to bet anything on either one of them as far as contributing anything as far as power #s to platoon with gomes. Garret Jones would have been the ticket but i dont see that happening. Where did you see the report on Kalish's length of DL i havent seen the 6 months stint?
  24. With the current bullpen, Morales and Aceves should both be stretched out as starters with one starting in the minors and the other on the ML roster slotted in as the long relief man when one of the starters gets into trouble. Webster, Barnes, De La Rosa, Hernedez, and Wright are all better options than DiceK or Cook bottom line. Cook is with Philli now i believe on a minors deal and DiceK is still on the market but i dont think he is worth spending any $ on. Havent heard much rumors or anything really about DiceK. If the sox could get him on a cheap minors deal then maybe i could wrap my mind around that. Maybe he could change from a starter and become a reliever like John Smoltz. But our bullpen is stacked so i just dont see anyway he will be back in a boston uniform.
  25. I dont see anyone trading for Stanton until the All Star Break. The Marlins are done in disarray since the trade with the Blue Jays. Tax payers in miami are pissed at the fire sale. And if the current face of the franchise left via trade right now they would just need to lock the doors on the stadium because no one would fill the seats. By mid season Stanton will be voicing his opinion about the FO and that he wants to be traded. The FO will use that as a way to get him outta there with bringing back top prospects while putting the blame on Stanton for the move. At that point every team in the league will prolly make offers to miami for him.
