  1. I cant believe that this is even a discussion topic. Nava is and never will be in the same galaxies as Josh Hamilton.
  2. I watched the game today and i hope we get that Buch more often than not but im not getting my hopes up. He pitched a gem today against a team that didnt K a lot wished he could of got another no-hitter but still a dominant performance. Also as far as quotable movies go... Anchorman or Talladega Nights, any Will Ferrell movie is always the most quotable
  3. Agreed i think when he gets fully used to his new arm he very well can be in boston by season's end. Plus i hope he can become an ace or atleast a #2.
  4. Awesome!!! I work for the railroad and getting Rick Rolled was kinda a unknown term and a lot of the old men didnt know what the hell any off the younger guys were talking about. Well after a year of people getting random Rick Ashely text Rick Rolled has become a common term and no one is safe. Never thought i would see anyone get Rick Rolled on this site. Simply Stunning!
  5. With the new good guy clubhouse i dont think zambrano would be a candidate. Im a did fan of calling the young guys up and letting them throw instead of bringing anyone else in. But any of them on a minors deal would be fine.
  6. Yeah and Wright got lite up for 5 earned runs today. Sounds like a good middle reliever.
  7. Exactly and now they made another splash again with Hamilton which i think is gonna take a bit of a drop in production hitting half his games in LA... Texas was more of a hitters park and im just betting on a drop in numbers but that #3 & #4 hitters is scary im not saying as lethal as Detroit but still pretty nasty. I wouldnt be suprised if Oakland wins that divison again. Texas is down Seattle and the Astros are not in the picture and i dont thing the starter staff for the Angels is not as good top to bottom as Oakland. I like the youngsters and other than Weaver who is ace caliber the Angels rotation is a bunch of one #3 starter and three #5s. Vargas Blanton and Hanson not that big of upgrade i would rather have resigned the 2012 back than what they got. One question with the Jays additions is if Johnson will stay healthy and how he will adapt to the tough lineups in the AL. I think him and Dickey are gonna get smashed this year. Just not a big fan of a knuckleballer being the ace of a staff. Not saying it cant work just not a big fan. I loved Wakefield and what he done for us but i would rather watch paint dry than watch a knuckler pitch.
  8. Thank you Spitball, im glad someone else feels that way. At the start or the Hot Stove season the Jays were the favorites up until the Angels made the Hamilton splash was presumed to be the WS champions with the additions from the Marlins. I just think at the Jays may be a tad bit in front of the rest of the AL East clubs but i think Johnson and Reyes have to prove themselves in the AL. I see the rest of the AL East stacking up about on an even slat. I know im gonna get flak for saying that but thats just the way i feel i dont see none of the 4 remaining teams springing into a clear second as of now. All four has questions but i think whichever team finishes second will win a wild card spot thats pretty much a given.
  9. I have to say i was hoping the Sox would have traded for Garza at the start of the offseason. I would of ate my words on that because Theo would of wanted a ton of prospects for him. He may bounce back and have a good year but it dont look like he will put of a season like the Tampa Bay years of old. I was at a bar lastnite and heard a Jays fan talking about that the Red Sox were involved with the Marlins trying to trade for Johnson Reyes and Buerle before the Jays pulled the trade off. Were the Sox extremely involved with talks for a trade or did they back out because the prospects would of been to valuable that the Marlins wanted?
  10. I wish this thread would just stop. Middlebrooks is back into the lineup and it was by the grace of God just a scare. Rolen may be a saint and just had bad luck with previous coaches and is a good club house guy all things may be true but who cares. Rolen showed interest in us not us in him. Fred made a good point he wouldnt take a bench role for Cincy why would anyone think he would take one here. Also with the question marks in our rotation we will have an extra pitcher onto our 25 man roster than most club so the bench spots will be more of players who can float to different postions. Rolen if he accepts a miinor league deal hell why not, dont go against the luxury tax but i dont think he will.
  11. Simply an awesome post!!! Money does talk and if given millions of dolllars i think all of us would dawn pinstripes with a red sox tshirt under the jersey. But this discussion reminds me on what an engineer i work with told me one time on a train when he was starting the go through his divorce. He told me no matter what the amount of money that coulda woulda shoulda been and the money gained or lost the only one true thing a man owns is his peace of mind and no amount of money will ever buy that.
  12. Thats true the first pitch is usually the best one. I also dont like the approach of not swinging in a 3-0 count. U know that you're prolly gonna get a fastball so i say swing for the fences dont just take the pitch and let the count go 3-1.
  13. Intersted only on a minor league deal. If he wants big league money forget it. Id rather let Bogey or Ciriaco play 3rd until Middlebrooks is back. But all reports from this morning said he was fine not even sore. He was supposed to take BP today. Has any heard if he did and how it went?
  14. I have to say i agree with you to a point. I think bradley can help this team, but i dont think he has any experience in AAA the highest level he has been is AA and if a trade for Ellsbury is to be made they need to show him off in center. And the FO prolly likes not bringing him up early so to not lose a year of control. But all that being said... I like what ive seen from him thus far in ST, if he continues to kill it in ST why not. Move Ellsbury to LF bradley in CF and Vic in RF let Gomes be the 4th outfielder and have either Carp or Nava be the 5th man that can also play 1B. i just like the potential speed the outfield would have on defense and on the bases. It would definitely be a force to be reckoned with.
  15. Yeah its just ST. I would hope he would not push it too much to get back in we need him more during the season to be healthy no need at all to rush back now. Has anyone seen any time frame for Ortiz to be penciled into the lineup? Napoli is debuting tomorrow against the Pirates so im interested in seeing him for the 1st time this year.
  16. I was just wondering how everyone viewed the strategy of driving the pitch count up and looking at a lot of pitches. Is it a good strategy or is the swing em if its close strategy more favorable? I myself am more of the swing at anything close and hack away. Being patient is good and does get the pitcher out of the game earlier. Just seeing what others thought about it.
  17. I find it a little odd that no x-rays are planned.
  18. You beat me to it SFF... but good news none the less
  19. Middlebrooks just spoke in the clubhouse to reporters. Says nothing is torn and nothing is broken, just a scary strain. Good news!!!
  20. Cant hate on Youk for taking that money. I like the comment about him always being a Red Sox. He just looks weird with no goatee and in pinstripes.
  21. Lets just hope its not as bad as it seems right now. Hopefully they come back with a negative report of the wrist being broken. And that he only misses a couple of starts not an extended amount of time.
  22. Agreed. I dont think you will see Bradley till after the All Star Break. But if Ellsbury shows a 1st half of the year as like 2011 then i would hope the Sox retain him and go all in on his contract. So many poster are here want to trade or are sure he will walk. But i would like to see an outfield for the future of Ellsbury in LF, Bradley in CF, and Vic in RF. Imagine the speed on defense and what base running ability this team would have. Potential outfield could be filled with 30 to 40 stole bases per player per year. I like the idea of moving Ells to LF. Gomes is signed for two years and i just dont feel that a platoon type player is what is ideal for the Sox. So the Sox will have to go out and aquire a player for LF in the near future via trade or free agency. I just dont see why posters dont believe Ells could be that player. He has had bad years thats a given but we have seen his potential to lite up the stat sheets. I like the ideal of that amount of speed in the outfield in Fenway. Any pop fly would be caught and it would only be base to base becasue line drives hit into the gaps would be tracked down faster so not as many extra bases given out. I think its something the FO needs to look at.
  23. The move for Middlebrooks to 1st would be to allow him to protect himself a bit more than the hot corner does against injury. Which makes sense but now Napoli is there and they wanted him on a 3 year deal before the hip was discovered and i expect Nap to be there next year and after that id say the Sox will be in the market for a righty power bat for 1st .Iggy is gonna be given a chance to hit in AAA until id say mid season if he cant hes trade bait and then Xander will get the nod at SS. In year 3 is when i think a lot of questins will be answered, if napoli comes back for his 3rd year and if they put someone in house at 1sto r if they go outside the organization and add a power hitter. After 1st is filled then the restt of the blocks will fall in place
  24. I think its good Farrell had a talk with him and that Ben talked to his agent. Could be a one time deal and just testing the waters. But if he is gonna act up again i hope its soon before rosters have to be cut to 25. I hate to see them keep a head case like Aceves when Clayton Mortensen who pitched very well for us will be sent down and probably not make it thru the waiver wire. We have Franky for the long relief and spot starts along will Andrew Miller so i would let him go if a team comes calling with a nice prospect piece. Aceves wants to start most of all and if not wants to close. Middle relief or spot starts is where he will be used and is very good at it and the best place for him on this team but i just dont think he has the role player mentality to not blow up again. Given this team needs as many spot starters and strong bullpen to help the rotation when they are getting lit up, but in a potential bridge year that it looks like we are in i would bring one of the young prospects up in spot starters or used in middle relief to gain experieces and develop confidence in a limited number or innings and just let Aceves bring back another pitching prospect or outfield hitter. Its a just wait and see with Aceves. But that is the theme of the 2013 Red Sox. I hope they play Dont Stop Believing by Journey all year and Johnny Gomes brings an East Coast version of the Bernie Lean to the field this year to keep everyone lose and end up having a year like lastyears Athletics.
  25. That would be a nice projected infield for the next 5 to 10 years. But I just dont think the Red Sox will have an entire infield or outfield for that matter filled with home grown players. Sure it would be a nice heart warming story and is what all 32 clubs would love have is an entire team of home grown players. But this is the Boston Red Sox who have money to spend on big time free agents and trading for what is projected to be the the latest and greatest with the Yankees who dont seem to quit buying players and makiing moves to be a big market team right under the salary cap, the Sox aint gonna change from big spending and trading for outside the organization players anytime soon. I would love to see a whole team of home grown guys but realistically i just dont ever see it happening, atleast not for us. Tho the infield you mentioned could be great if the reports of the prospects keep progressing and make it to the bigs, just keep in mind a propect looks good in the minors but they are still propects and havent made it to the show yet injuries do happen and block home grown players. Example: Ryan Kalish
