  1. I believe that and is why I didn't like his or Pandas signing. Bad example to the prospects. One thing that hasn't been mentioned,I don't think, is that Hanley had been a SS so he might have a better feel for the infield than outfield. But if Shaw does well, keep him there.
  2. He may have taken steroids but he's not A-Rod. At least he was quiet about the whole thing and ready to move on. However, it won't matter if our outfielders keep playing the way they've been playing.
  3. Screw that. Trade him and eat some of the money if we have to. Trade him for some bullpen.
  4. I think you have to look at who's getting the talent before we blame Farrell. Get rid of Lester and Lackey, don't replace, dont keep bullpen strong an bring aboard wild swingers with little defense. What was he supposed to do with this bunch?
  5. That's true. As many stats as there are, you still need a human brain to collect them all and decide which ones are more important than the other. And there still isn't a stat for clutch, which is what wins championships.
  6. I'm not sure about that. I wonder if it was Cheringtons choice to get Sandoval or Ramirez at all. For a guy that did all that salary dumping, to splurge on them doesn't make sense. I'm still of the belief that Cherington is the architect of 2013 and needs a full chance to see his vision through of a team built from within. At least know its a failure before throwing it all away.
  7. I'm for staying pat except for getting rid of Sandoval. I didn't want Ramirez either but of the two I'd rather he stay mainly because he has performed and I haven't seen any negative press on him. Other than that I think we need to give things more of a chance to succeed than one season.
  8. I'm all for not prejudging and forgiving and forgetting but Panda said some bad things about the Giants during spring training, he didn't have to. Thats a sign. There's also the texting incident in the clubhouse. But you're right about Hanley, he could have changed his ways, and we shouldn't prejudge him.
  9. In Boston, being a solid pitcher....which....he still is being. That is except the BEING IN BOSTON PART!!!!
  10. Yeah, I think they tried to do, in 2015, what they did in 2013 which was to mix prospects with vets but this time they did it in a more desperate, impatient manner. They went splashy instead of solid, high character guys with lots of intangibles and defensive skill. That and they made pitching a much bigger priority.
  11. One good day doesn't make for a "I told you so". That's a bit disappointing.
  12. Kelly, Porcello, if Craig can get over his injury, him, Miley. I have no idea but I look at Andrew Miller and Mark Melancon and see that we need to be more patient. I don't see anybody becoming dominant but if some of them can get better, with some prospects, we can gain momentum.
  13. Sometimes trades/acquisitions need more than one season to see if it was a good one or not. I can imagine that some of them will turn in our favor next season.
  14. We need to rebuild so that means we need a whole lot of everything and 1st base is just part of that. For now just put warm bodies there, check out the prospects, put Holt or Papi there and wait for the off season. I'm more interested in figuring out pitching and bullpen. BTW, that grumbling Papi did when playing first base, was that a case of Papi being Papi in the media or is there a general lack of warm fuzzy feelings between coaching and players right now?
  15. I agree, but I guess the reason St Louis gave him up was a good one, and that is he hasn't been or ever will be as good as he was since he got injured. I hope it isn't true because it would be awesome if he found his game again and maybe he will.
  16. I agree with this whole heartedly. And I agree with the FO for not giving out long contracts to players...except Lester. We make this one exception and chances are we have a good pitcher for years. He's young enough that he could still be useful with a rebuilt team when it comes together. I also agree with your other post about the large fan base being almost a hindrance to the red sox rebuilding. But I also agree that if you really go for it, they'll understand. The losses would be growing pains which we learn from. I admire teams like Houston and KC who are set up for years of, at least winning seasons.
  17. Trade Hanley and Sandoval for Adrian Gonzales.
  18. Not this year. As a matter of fact in 2013 Nava had a 385 OBP and a 303 BA. It was also the year he played the most games so plenty of sample size. He was extremely intelligent and hardly ever made a mistake. I don't mean he be the first baseman of the future, just to finish out the year.
  19. For now, Hanley so when Betts comes back JBJ can stay. I wish we would've kept Nava.
  20. I don't know because I don't know which decision is being made by whom but whomever made the decision to dick around too long about signing Lester, and whoever decided it was a good idea to sign Ramirez and Sandoval is who is responsible for where the Red Sox are. My feeling is that it isn't Cherington because of the complete lack of sense that it makes.
  21. Happy trails Nava. Glad to be watchin the tube when you hit a grand slam on your first mlb at bat. You were also reliable after that, cheers.
  22. I'm keeping tabs on the game on gameday. Did the Yanks change pitcher in the mid of JBJs at bat?
  23. I read an article talking about how Tom Werner, more than Lucchino may be the one more interested in getting splashy players than I at first thought. And now Werner may have more power. So I retract anything negative I said.
  24. But this is the red sox now. Because they didn't sign Lester right away, which I think they wish they could take back now, they try to learn their lesson by signing Porcello. Thats not a smart move looking at both players career stats, and the two rings, and that he did it with the red sox, and that he's not that old. Every decision they make now seems to try and make up for the failures of the year before, instead of looking at things objectively. Just like destroying our pitching to get Panda and Hanley.
  25. Porcello was much more of a gamble. We pretty much got him because of last years success.
