  1. Lincecum is probably having a worse season then Beckett was, and makes more then he was as well. I don't think it is a good idea to invest $$$$$ on Lincecum.
  2. Lee is 34 and you can't rebuild your rotation around a 34 year old. You can't remove the contracts we just did, and start the rebuild with a 34 year old pitcher. The Boston media will have Hamilton in rehab before the end of spring training if he signs here. Both are good players, but I don't think they should be the foundation of the rebuild.
  3. A-Gon was the key for the Dodgers to take the other contracts. Without A-Gon in the trade the trade doesn't get done. The Sox proved they weren't winning with this team so it is wise that they blew up the team. With the resources the Sox have, and done correctly this thing can get turned around quickly. Some in the nation have been spoiled by 2004 and 2007. Remember it took 86 years for 2004 to happen, and many a Sox fan were born and died without seeing a 2004 or 2007. Lets do the building correctly so we can have more 2004s and 2007s.
  4. Felix has a no-trade clause (All big market teams including the Sox) so he is not getting traded to Sox. Need to start looking at more realistic options if you are looking for a #1 for the rotation. He is a FA after 2014 so he will be in Seattle until at least then.
  5. Just say no to Dice-K for 2013. He just isn't consisted enough for me. Remember today he pitched against a Royal team that is out of the playoff picture. I agree it is time to move on. Dice-K don't let the door hit you in the a_ _ on the way out.
  6. A healthy Bailey if he finishes the season strong should be the Sox closer in 2013. He has track record of being productive in that role.
  7. Random thoughts on today's game: 1. Dice - K pitch a good game today, but its a no pressure game against the Royals and just say no Dice-K after September 2. Ross 2-4 and three RBIs today, I wish he was a little more reliable with the glove in RF, would LF be a better fit for him in 2013 and the Sox get a RF in off season 3. Ellsbury 2-4 with a homerun, it would be nice to see him be a little more consistent the rest of the season. If he is back in 2013 he will be counted on to produce. I don't expect 2012 numbers, but 20-85 -.300 range numbers.
  8. I can't see Felix coming to Boston. In his contract he has a no-trade clause to big market teams (Boston included) knowing those are the only teams that could to aford to trade for him. He will become a FA after the 2014 season at the age of 28. He will make $20 million in 2014 and I really think he wants to stay in Seattle so he will give them the home discount. For the Sox to sign him after 2014 it would take a miracle. It would take $$$$$, convince him he would like pitching in Boston like Pedro did, and have to out spend the $pankees. Cashman has Seattle on speed dial and calls every 15 minutes seeing if they are ready to trade Felix. I just don't see all of those moons lining up. If just half of the top level arms in our system pan out and you add them to Buchholtz and Lester you would have a pretty good rotation.
  9. Big Papi stays if that is what he wants. He may select to leave knowing that the Sox may not be in the playoffs the next year or two. If he is shut down for the year the question will be can he stay healthy and earn the $$$$ of an one or two year contract. Also, based on his ability to play in the Boston spot light and produce he would be a good influence on the younger guys. Its another one those major questions to be answered in the off season. How many days till pitchers and catchers?
  10. It is a great Sunday afternoon and the Sox are done in 2012 so the nation was out enjoying the dog days of summer non-baseball version. It is hard to watch every game when you know there is no prize at the end (October baseball). How many days to pitchers and catchers?
  11. Thoughts on internal options at first: 1. Gomez is a nice depth player, but I don't know if you can run him out there every day 2. No one else in the minors that is major league ready to play every day 3. Loney has the rest of the season to tryout for the position (Would be bridge 1B) 4. Papi can't play first base every day (Still need his bat though)
  12. If Aceves is not in next years plan because of his attitude I would try to trade him to get a prospect. He would be a good arm for a contender.
  13. I think I read some where that J. Upton has a limited no trade clause and Boston is one of the teams he can nix a trade to.
  14. Does Bogaerts lose value if he is moved from short? I know defense is important at SS, but to have a great bat out of that position would be great. Is he projecting to be worse then Aviles with the defense. When haven't had someone like this in the system at SS since Nomar.
  15. Aceves threw a sh__ load of pitches the game before and gave up the farm. If Bailey was the closer before he got hurt, and is the closer of the future, why wait to see if he can handle the job in Boston. Aceves for the most part has pitch well in his two years here, but he is not a closer because when he is bad he is bad. He has 7 or 8 blown saves. Not winning anything when your closer does that. The role he had last year is perfect for him. He wants to pitch a lot which is great, but he is not a closer.
  16. From what I have read this morning it sounds like the days of 20-25 million dollars a year (long term) contracts are over for the Sox. They have not worked out in Boston. When a guy gets those $$$$ so much is expected of them. An when they can't live up to those expectations the fans and media are all over them. Sounds like BCher will build a team around youth and fill in with players that are financially low risk (Like Ross this year). If that is the plan then the next year or two could be bridge years until the Bradleys, Websters, Barnes, and Bogaerts become the new core.
  17. I don't know why I care any more about 2012. When do pitchers and catchers report.
  18. Here comes Mortensen. He is the last bullet.
  19. Mortensen must be lonely down in the bullpen. I think he is the only one left down there. If this goes to long some position player is going to have to pitch batting practice to the Royals.
  20. Just got in, and the last I heard the score was 9-3. I think some of these guys in the pen are gased. Who blew up tonight?
  21. The $pankees have more commited next year for the left side of the infield then the Sox do right now for the whole team. I'm sure if you look at commitments in salaries for next year right now the Sox are in the bottom third in the league.
  22. The Boston market will eat Greinke up. No proven track record in a large market. From what I've seen so far his numbers are not that great since the trade. Are you going to give a huge contract to someone that we don't know if he could survive the pressure of playing in Boston? Didn't we just trade someone (CC) that the same thing was said about him. I don't know what Shield's status is, but he at least has proven he can pitch in AL East. Who is the last major FA that has had a lot of success after signing a big contract in Boston? Is it Manny (Before he realized Manny being Manny was getting old and he wasn't getting away with sh__)?
  23. BV gets another year, but on a short leash. Based on what is taking place with the trades it looks like they are going to give him a real chance. Whether you like him or not, with all of the injuries and turmoil he was able to keep them a float until August. Didn't have the set lineup one game all season, Lester and Beckett terrible most of the season, and he had to come up with a bullpen after losing his closer in the spring.
  24. Let the Bailey era begin. Almost forgot what the lyrics of dirty water sounded like.
