I agree but Pablo was undeniably fat. I don't really think Devers is built like him.

I agree. Of course I don't follow this crap as much as you and a very few others here do, but I do think something has got to change. It may certainly look like there is collusion when it comes to a failure to sign some of the big stars in the game but the current rules and restrictions make it possible without eyebrows being raised. It just kind of looks good for owners and not so much for players. Obviously there continues to be an incredible amount of money in the game.

In general I agree with you oltimer but there are many instances where these guys just don't fit the mold. I have a 5'8" nephew who weighed 205 at Dever's age. he could dunk a bb and you literally could not find one ounce of fat on his body. Looks to me like he is built somewhat like a football player. He has a thick body. I think diet will be important to him moving forward but if he he works hard to maintain agility there is no reason why he won't be a fixture for us at third base.

Devers has a very unique build. He is not slow. There are actually times when he has looked fast.

I doubt seriously that any of our current starters ever wind up in a closing role until they pitch themselves out of the primary rotation. That is just the way it works. The best start. Porcello is a durable mid rotation pitcher who has great value to us. He does not throw the ball hard enough in this day and age to ever close. He does not have the deceptive delivery that Koji had.

Larry just throws crap out there to see what kinds of responses that he might get. Rarely does he respond to anyone who might question what he says or suggests. I suppose anyone posting is better than no one posting.

His strikeout rate is crazy high but I think that he needs more time. He is big and athletic and filled with raw power. He is very interesting.

If Chavis was traded I would not bat an eye. I would like to see them keep Dalbec.

I'm going to have fun following the development of Casas and Flores. they are just kids but seem to have a great deal of potential. Groome has started to throw again as well. he is too good and too young to be giving up on just yet.

As I said earlier, you cannot project Eovaldi's year anymore than anyone else. It is all a guess and you know it. Red Sox fans hopefully see what he might do in a very positive light. You say he might have an injury (all of them might), I say he could also wind up being a Cy Young candidate (vey few of them can). You cannot tell.

Not a prediction but I will be watching Dalbec very closely. He is a young man with great potential.

What is more laughable to me is that anyone might think that 10 to 20 million dollars isn't enough to accommodate a generational fund. These guys are just whack job rich. Pedroia for sure never has to work another day of his life if he so chooses. He is certainly not alone.

When it comes to Eovaldi, any amount of data that you have supported your statements about him with is meaningless. there is virtually no one who knows what is going to happen with this young man. If this year we see the arm that we saw during the World Series, he has absolute ace potential - end of story. It is a gamble and you aren't the first person to bring up his past performances. Most of us kind of like the gamble.

I see the same 3 issues for sure - I do think that another relief pitcher will be added. I think that the catching tandem is likely to get one more year. I don't think that they are quite ready to give up on Vazquez's ability to hit just yet. Leon is the better catcher but they both are adequate. I don't see second base as an issue - we have Holt and Nunez.

So I am learning I guess that it is just not possible to be a consistent winner year after year even though we have been in recent years? I think that much of this debate centers around what you like or don't like about team building. If you don't like the way that DD has put us in a position to be consistent winners, then obviously you see future roadblocks. If you like what he has done, then you likely have confidence that he ain't bad and we will be able to compete in future years. I'm quite pleased with what has been accomplished and I am looking forward to the success that we will have in the future.

I understand what you are saying but I still think that that type of wasted money aught to at least be considered. They were failed experiments and both signings probably represented what notin has said on occasion - money spent to excite a fan base. It won't matter at all to me either what all of the data shows about Hanley Ramirez, imo those were two of the worst signings that this current ownership has made. I'm also not shamed to say that I cheered hard for both of them. That is what my type of fan does.

If you took the money wasted on Ramirez and Sandoval last year out of the mix, how do things look? I realize fully that you can't do this but it is what people do here everyday - hindsight analysis.

We share a lot of the same views I think. Following this team with all its ebbs and flows is what I have done now since 1955(I was 4). I've been a fan of every team as well as every GM that we have had since that time. There were a couple of times when my patience was certainly tested but I am loyal. I might question moves that are made but I realize that I am in no position to claim that I am an expert in what needs to be done. Over the years this current ownership team has been incredible and I expect that they will continue to be so.

I don't think that you are much different than the normal Sox fan. We all don't want nor do we need to play GM. I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of us who look forward to this upcoming season with the same hopes and expectations that we will have in let's say 2025 if we are still here. I do think think that there is a pretty good chance that Kimbrel comes back. Certainly not for the number of years that he is looking for though. As for his impending decline that some here say is inevitable to begin if it already hasn't simply because he is 30, I'm not sure that I buy it with respect to this guy. I didn't like what I saw from him over the second half of last year but I don't think that he is done anytime soon. His health is good and looks to me as though his velocity is still right where it needs to be. Someone will take a shot with him and he is going to strengthen anybody's bullpen.
