  1. To each his own. i'm in central Florida and am loving it. The cost of very good housing where I'm is ridiculously low compared to much that compares to New England. i don't care for the crowds and I get can get to the beach in an hour if I want to go fight the crowds. lakeland is 45 minutes away if I want to take in a game. Every state in the country has its own beauty.
  2. We have no clue what the market might look like by the time Betts is a free agent. Deep breaths and wait and see.
  3. Oh also, yes we have spending limits - JH not so much.
  4. Oh notin - really - You have to do better than Kimbrel to work your dark magic on me. I love Kimbrel too but paying a guy who might pitch 70 innings at best the kind of money he wants even I think is silly. Obviously JH is on my page with this ( like always ). Big difference between Kimbrel and Sale even though Kimbrel will one day go into the Hall with Sale.
  5. me too !!! I still think that there is significance to batting third in the lineup.
  6. couple things - too many people tend not to consider what Sale has brought to this team in addition to pitching. It isn't just about the money. Thank goodness John Henry has said as much. Some think that it actually has something to do with the fact that we did not sign Lester. I don't think that JH sees it that way. It is obvious how much he values Sale if he gets this done. We have an extremely wealthy owner who doesn't seem interested in having the Red Sox become a penny pinching franchise. If JH is not bothered by Sale's age, the length of the contract, and the money as well, I have a particularly hard time understanding why any one here would.
  7. I am delighted that the Red Sox appear ready to sign Chirs Sale long term. Based on his comments, I'm pretty sure that John Henry takes responsibility for the Lester non-sign. The buck stops here so to speak. More importantly, I could care care less about who did what or who said what or who thinks what. Oh and I also think that this signing indicates that the Red Sox as an organization will do what they need to do to stay competitive moving forward. We are very fortunate to have an owner who is willing to put quite a bit of cash back into his team.
  8. I would absolutely love to see how two relatively equal teams would compare - one determined by current standards ( not sure if I can say metrics ) and one from a vintage 60's way of looking at things. Speed at the top - a mover of baserunners next - and third a very good hitter capable of knocking them in with number four right behind. The yap about aligning everyone according to "modern standards" might likely prove moot. Makes no difference!
  9. Dark side notin dark side not dork side!
  10. screw him - you can make yourself look bad all by yourself - join the crowd of incorridgeables - come to the dark side notin - lol
  11. very true notin very true
  12. How many games did JD play in the outfield last year? I doubt that changes mush this year. He is not a full-time dh by any means. Don't be putting him out to pasture just yet.
  13. Flip a coin and move on I say. It will make 0 difference whether it is Vazquez or Leon. they are obviously both better catchers than Swihart at this time but that really isn't saying much. Keep all three - it will make 0 difference. What a conundrum right. Oh my god - which one of our solid backups will get the job on day 1?
  14. UZR/150 - hmmm - sounds like a second amendment issue to me.
  15. It is likely why I don't know Steamer! lol Sometimes I wonder Moon how someone as unschooled in modern baseball methods as I am should even be commenting here. lol
  16. The metrics comment came directly form me based on Harmony's post trying to support which catcher does what based upon what they have or have not done. I do not think that using that type of argument with respect to what Swihart might do if given a chance has any meaning whatsoever.
  17. Could be why I don't like reading hinting comments from a forum board. It is what the media tends to do. Try to read things into something to create news where there isn't news.
  18. Have either Sale or Price openly stated that they prefer Leon to Vazquez or anyone else? They might for sure but I have not heard either state as much. I really don't think that if either had to pitch to cowboy slapshanks they would complain. They are two of the best in the game and likely would feel comfortable having any skilled professional behind the plate.
  19. You think they really do know more Bell? I think that there are some here who truly think that their gained knowledge of all things statistical gives them a leg up on almost anyone. For the record, of course I agree with your statement. I'm sure that you understand how I feel about all of this though. A gained mastery of all things regarding metrics in baseball does not at all mean that people in that camp have a mastery of the game.
  20. No one truly knows what Swihart's upside might be with respect to either his offense or his defense. It is all conjecture based on a limited number of gasbag statistics. Once again, metrics can be very useful but in some respects not so much. With respect to our conversation, I respect yours always but I don't think that I am totally alone in my beliefs.
  21. Yawn - We rank three backup catchers here. I think that you could put these guys in a shell game, flip over any one of them, and likely get similar results most days. Leon and Vazqueth can catch for sure and that is a good thing. Every team needs a catcher. Swihart - Who knows. If any one of those three is gone from the roster come April, the affect will likely hardly be noticeable.
  22. I certainly don't think the numbers that you list are useless. I am not stunned by these numbers though. Guess we will just have to wait to see what happens. But I will say Moon that nothing you post is telling me that you think that Sale or Price would be as effective with any other catcher but Leon. My opinion is that I am not buying that line of reasoning.
  23. If we don't add someone significant I think kind of based on what you have said here that it is even more likely that we see the two kids sooner as opposed to later. When you look at what we have for bullpen arms, what is not to like with these two strong armed kids? I would rather see either one of them as opposed to acquiring someone else off the junk pile.
  24. We do not need two catchers who likely would be solid backups on many teams. Taking a chance with Swihart won't hurt a thing. Sandy Leon is a good defensive catcher but anyone thinking that Sandy is the biggest reason for the success of two big time big league pitchers I think is giving him more credit than he deserves.
