  1. What I find very interesting is that Betts is referred to as a once in a generation player thus he should be signed. He is very very good we all know that. I consider Chris Sale a once in a generation pitcher. He gets injured and all of sudden people are ready to trade him away if possible. I'm glad that he was locked up long term. We got our moneys worth from him before and we will get our moneys worth from him again.
  2. Thanks go out to dd and now it's on to the next GM.. Where's Cherington when you need him? Let all of you condescending jackasses who know so much about the way it works and that would include the jackson ass from NY fame. I will do my thing as a fan for the next guy up.
  3. Better yet possibly since whether people agree or disagree with the pre-season strategy this is a massive witch hunt once again, have him pressed to death in Salem!
  4. hey - you little bugger. Don't you go bringing up my fav the pom pom. And for the record yup - still a big Kimbrel fan.
  5. Since you are responding to me, I will just say that when he had the job, I was his fan. I didn't agree with some of the things that he did but i appreciated his hard work. In reality though, my comments have nothing to do with Ben Cherington at all.
  6. There will always be good and bad moves made by any GM. I'm sure that there are a couple of folks here who honestly think that they could do his job. That really is my opinion. I do find it humorous that so many tend to hindsight to death anyone who makes decisions that they do not agree with. You will have a tough time getting me to board the I don't like DD train I'm afraid.
  7. lol - I like that. Could possibly add that a quick consult with the best "hind sight" strategists in the country (obviously talksoxers) might be necessary. it's what every general manager needs . Help from the peanut gallery.
  8. I do understand what you are saying and agree. I am a fan of the game. I think that I understand when players are playing poorly and when ridiculous decisions are made. Personally being a fan to me means supporting players, coaches and general managers unless I see something that truly stands out as poor. Other than poor pitching and some poor play, i don't see the things that make me want to get rid of the GM.
  9. he needs to go based on next season - really. I'm going with the premise that even though a number of folks here are research specialists who can obviously prove all of the things that DD cannot do and has not done, his longevity , respect, record, and results speak for themselves.
  10. Somewhat typical of this board. Things go well all is good for the most part. Things go poorly, pile on searching for someone to blame. DD is used to it for sure. Last year, Cora in some eyes represented the best manager in Sox history, not so much this year i guess.
  11. I agree with you very much. Giving up regardless of the current or future impact has never been in my DNA. I don't have any of the answers with respect to how we go about acquiring the pitching that it takes to compete once again at the highest level but I have always chosen to support the people in charge. They know more than I do.
  12. had to read this. you sure that you didn't copy this from our resident president of the Ben Cherington fan club?
  13. Don't have time to read this yet notin but thanks for the response. I bet I'm going to like what you wrote! later my friend.
  14. hmmm - who was it that brought up Bennie's name just recently? I had all but forgotten about him too. Some people just can't seem to let the past go. I'm a history guy also though.
  15. "bout time don't you think - kind of boring around here lately! Someone needs to be the designated pain in the ass. lol
  16. ty - effect I was looking for.
  17. Well here you go - Just read what Chris Sale had to say and I will unequivocally say that anyone posting here who thinks for one minute that this man should not have been reupped is a jackass. You have no clue about what we have. Some of you think that you have so much knowledge about baseball in general which personally I kind of question. You can stick your chests out and rant about how much we overpaid for this old decrepit future HOFamer all you want. he will be back.. Oh and just for the record comparing dombrowski (man) to cherington(boy) is asinine.
  18. The worst thing that could happen to any major league franchise is to start losing their fan base. Yarding out younger players just because you want to see what they can do, goes against any realistic principle that coaches and players who have been successful have ever abided by. if they are good enough as in proven themselves at the lower levels they'll likely get their chance someday. if they are not better than those ahead of them, putting them out there out of curiosity i don't think would go over very well. Might be tolerable I guess for losing small market teams i guess.
  19. i did kind of think that you would get a kick out my Uranus statement.
  20. notin - had a hunch all along notin that you were kidding.
  21. Well i guess if you don't believe that, I would have to say that your head must at least be part way up Uranus.
  22. Oh i'm ok with anything you say Moon. I just am slightly opposed to all of these weird little statements people tend to make these days in an attempt to shove people into some sort of stereotype. How about this - even though I am quite conservative that doesn't mean that I am not liberal in my thinking. As for the intelligence part, not a problem. I'm pretty sure just as all of us likely are that i know where i stand with respect to the brightness scale. i just don't care to spend much time trying to convince people of my obvious superior intellect!
  23. I know right notin. A moron who truly believes that the earth is flat and maybe that we did not land on the moon is of course an accurate comparison to anyone who might think that our farm system isn't as bad as it has ever been - another big lol on that one. What I see is just another huge exaggeration to try to prove a very debatable issue through condescension once again. it is what we see in our world today - gross exaggeration which hopefully quiets those with opposing views. I would call it a genius move by not so genius people.
  24. Yup that would be me = a non cliff dwelling kind of guy. I'm just one of the numb nut guys who doesn't, hasn't and will never believe in something as unnatural to me as the cliff theory that has been promoted so often here. All the cliff theory believers can have a laugh at the expense of people like me. But come on we are the flat earth believers and not one of us has the IQ to rival the incredible minds posting here. Just to show how brilliant I feel the level of intellect on here is, let me add that what I have said in this post should not be taken seriously. LOL
  25. This is absolutely the way I see things. These guys are very well paid athletes and shutting them down now would be ridiculous. i could care less whether we are in or out of the playoffs, the best payers still should be on the field.
