  1. Castillo gets a chance! he is hitting the ball. If he stays healthy, we should get a chance this year to see if he can play or not.
  2. saw that - sucked
  3. I think it is a crummy situation but i do sort of agree with you. Owens is young, tall, and left handed and has shown some signs of being able to get it done. If I had to pick between actually keeping one or the other, I would keep Owens. All that being said, much like Dojji said, I would bet on Wright getting the first look. Not saying I agree with that because I still will be that guy beating the Brian Johnson drum - just saying I bet that is what they will do.
  4. Moncada is put together like a corner infielder or outfielder. Corner infielder = third base (hint hint)
  5. I'm with you on this. Here's hoping for Hanley. We need him or at least someone like him at the plate. I really hope that Travis Shaw gets a chance to be an everyday starter. If he doesn't. hope that it means that Sandoval really does play well enough to justify being out there day to day. I don't think that using him every third day or so in two or three different positions is going to let us truly see whether or not he could be a good one. He has looked good for a while now.
  6. rumor mill keeps on grinding. We just need to throw down a few more breadcrumbs!!!
  7. Moncada getting another start today.
  8. 50 shades or wrong - maybe my ceiling is lower than my floor. One question though - What does a knuckleballer who is considered a complete project look like? great games and bad games- i sure don't know. I'm pretty sure that I am not as high on Owens as you are but maybe ultimately you are at least going to know what you might get from him regularly. I just don't think it makes a whole lot difference which one of these guys gets the ball.
  9. In my case, I think I would have to see him myself like you are before offering an opinion about whether or not he can or cannot make certain plays. He certainly has caught enough infield popups over the course of his career in addition to having dug plenty of balls out of the dirt. I think that he can do what he wants to do. I really am more concerned with his footwork around the bag and whether or not his attention span will hold up when runners need to be held on. Sounded like he made some plays yesterday. i can see Petey telling him to let him field any pops on that side of the infield and I can see Hanley letting him do it. Not always a good thing. He is athletic. If he works, he should get it done.
  10. The highest floor and the highest ceiling? hmm - I think that you could put their names in a hat and give them each a chance. Of the group of candidates, Elias has the big league resume I guess. Wright is what he is - a knuckleballer. I don't know that we have given him a long enough look at the ml level to really know how good he can be on his "on" days. Haven't seen anything out of Owens yet to indicate that he could be any more at best than a mid rotation type - that is at his best. Johnson has shown signs of actually knowing how to pitch. Actually, to use your wording, I think that Wright has shown enough to make his ceiling appear as high as Owens. All in all, they can spin it any way they want to , the situation still looks a tad iffy.
  11. I'm probably more excited about Wright because of his unpredictability and Eilas because because I don't know very much about him.
  12. I think that Owens gets his chance for sure. I'm just not feeling it. I don't see him as being any better as an option than Eilas, Wright, or Johnson. They all have back of the rotation value but as adequate replacements for Eddie probably not. We better all be cheering real hard for the likes Buckeroo and kelley too. You want to really upgrade this pitching staff, it probably would cost more than most fans would like to see given up in trade for sure.
  13. I don't know the answer. He has pitched once and I haven't heard that he has had any setbacks. It probably is likely that he starts in Pawtucket. Wright and Owens both look like they may get the first nods to go. I just like Johnson.
  14. The average fan (speaking for myself I guess) has no real idea what to believe and what not to believe. Have heard mixed accounts and reports about both Sandoval and Ramirez. If I could follow behind them for number of days I might be able to state an educated opinion. I don't so mine are pretty much uneducated. What I do know is that I have have learned quite a bit about Sandoval since he came to Boston. Fitness for me is very important - he is a very highly paid athlete who has a terrible fitness level. I don't like players like that. What these two have going for them is that they have been pretty good mlb players. They should get a chance because that experience counts for something. Ultimately if them being on the field doesn't give us the best chance of winning, I don't think that they will be out there.
  15. Or Johnson - don't forget about Johnson. Sticking with him as my pre-season surprise pick to make an impact.
  16. not a ramirez endorsement but heaven forbid a pitcher get off the mound and make a play. Are they becoming NFL quarterbacks? Just yesterday they were the best athletes on the field. There I go again - old guy stuff.
  17. Even better - maybe he gets left behind for an extended spring - 8 or 10 starts in Pawtucket - bring him back up in Sept. - can't be too careful.
  18. I know. Don't go the arsenic route - effects could be too long lasting. What we get out of the Red Sox for the most part is what the media wants to give us. I'm not a real big fan of main stream media in general. Too many people wind up with opinions based on a bunch of ********. Me included for sure.
  19. You do make some good points. You are opinionated for sure but that is what a forum might be about. You know that you are going to get beaten up over not being able to substantiate some of what you say here with hard provable fact. Ok with it here because I tend to agree with much of what you have said. Many of us just aren't quite ready to totally give up on 3 or 4 players that were signed to long term contracts without seeing whether they produce or not. I would say that if tomorrow was opening day, and the lineup had Shaw (Swihart) at first, Moncada at third and Swihart (Shaw) in left field with Vazquez behind the plate, I would want to buy more than 4 games worth o tickets. Win lose or whatever that would be a much more exciting lineup than the one they are going to put out there. Also, I wish that Farrell would be quiet and just let things play out.
  20. Not much love from me for either Sandoval or Ramirez but I want the best players to be on the field for us. I think that this will be a very significant spring for a number of players. You have to think that probably S and R will get an opportunity when the team comes north in April. That being said it is possible that Shaw forces himself right into the starting lineup. If he has a solid spring he will deserve the opportunity to start and to show what he can do certainly as much as anyone else. He might earn it this spring. Not a Hater!- just want the best players on the field minus the ********.
  21. yup - just a kid - 22 going on 23
  22. Moncada getting the go today? Second base - like to see them sneak him right over to third.
  23. This is an issue I hope that we trend away from. Play your best most deserving players. That is the way it should work. Where they send the ones who shouldn't be on the roster is up to them.
  24. Pawtucket seems to look like a big holding tank on occasion. Rehabs for sure and then a roster with a bunch of guys who at one time or another either played at the ml level or were highly rated youngsters who didn't seem to be able to make the next step. Huge security blanket which isn't a bad thing. You never know when someone is going to be needed to help out.
