  1. Or Johnson - don't forget about Johnson. Sticking with him as my pre-season surprise pick to make an impact.
  2. not a ramirez endorsement but heaven forbid a pitcher get off the mound and make a play. Are they becoming NFL quarterbacks? Just yesterday they were the best athletes on the field. There I go again - old guy stuff.
  3. Even better - maybe he gets left behind for an extended spring - 8 or 10 starts in Pawtucket - bring him back up in Sept. - can't be too careful.
  4. I know. Don't go the arsenic route - effects could be too long lasting. What we get out of the Red Sox for the most part is what the media wants to give us. I'm not a real big fan of main stream media in general. Too many people wind up with opinions based on a bunch of ********. Me included for sure.
  5. You do make some good points. You are opinionated for sure but that is what a forum might be about. You know that you are going to get beaten up over not being able to substantiate some of what you say here with hard provable fact. Ok with it here because I tend to agree with much of what you have said. Many of us just aren't quite ready to totally give up on 3 or 4 players that were signed to long term contracts without seeing whether they produce or not. I would say that if tomorrow was opening day, and the lineup had Shaw (Swihart) at first, Moncada at third and Swihart (Shaw) in left field with Vazquez behind the plate, I would want to buy more than 4 games worth o tickets. Win lose or whatever that would be a much more exciting lineup than the one they are going to put out there. Also, I wish that Farrell would be quiet and just let things play out.
  6. Not much love from me for either Sandoval or Ramirez but I want the best players to be on the field for us. I think that this will be a very significant spring for a number of players. You have to think that probably S and R will get an opportunity when the team comes north in April. That being said it is possible that Shaw forces himself right into the starting lineup. If he has a solid spring he will deserve the opportunity to start and to show what he can do certainly as much as anyone else. He might earn it this spring. Not a Hater!- just want the best players on the field minus the ********.
  7. yup - just a kid - 22 going on 23
  8. Moncada getting the go today? Second base - like to see them sneak him right over to third.
  9. This is an issue I hope that we trend away from. Play your best most deserving players. That is the way it should work. Where they send the ones who shouldn't be on the roster is up to them.
  10. Pawtucket seems to look like a big holding tank on occasion. Rehabs for sure and then a roster with a bunch of guys who at one time or another either played at the ml level or were highly rated youngsters who didn't seem to be able to make the next step. Huge security blanket which isn't a bad thing. You never know when someone is going to be needed to help out.
  11. I wouldn't have brought up his name last year or talked about him ever since if Travis was that old. Check out his bio. I think that you will be impressed. He is just starting to prove what people have been saying about him for a while. No brainer for me and Sam Travis. He might even be a star before it's all over. Shaw - I don't know- but if he winds up as our starting third baseman in April, we won't be any worse off. Could even be an upgrade.
  12. I love guys like Shaw, Travis, and Hernandez. They deserve a shot whether it is with Boston or with someone else. No headline makers yet. No ridiculous signing bonuses. They go to work, they play hard. Soon enough this team is going to be loaded up with players that we will have a hard time finding fault with.
  13. Been in Boston all day. Been waiting for your take on what you are seeing down there. Sounds like it will be time to cut Craig loose for good. Is he doing anything that would make him keepable here or would he just be cluttering things up? Good stuff with Sam Travis.
  14. The game has changed at the NBA level dramatically. I was spoiled cheering for the celtics during all of their glory days. Many of their teams had 3 to 5 all-stars competing night in and night out.
  15. Every time I hear or read stuff like this I want to start beating the "move him to third" Moncada drum. Also good to see my boy Hernandez playing and getting a good look. A utility player probably if he stays in Boston but the kid can play.
  16. good to hear!
  17. so - I am thinking fair and trying to be positive here. When talking about one of the wealthiest teams in baseball, I don't even like to use the word budget. They have thrown a lot around for awhile now. It's easy to look back and say that we didn't get what we wanted but doesn't do any good. I'll only be concerned when better players don't get the opportunities they should get because of the contracts going forward. If Sandoval and Ramirez produce both at the plate and in the field, no complaints at all but if they don't they need to be moved aside. Same goes for Castillo. In Porcello's case, I'm sure that he gets his chance as well. As an aside - I would love to see as many as these young players signed long term as we can. I grew up when part of this rabid loyalty was attributable to the fact that we saw the saw same players year in and year out. We grew with them. It is a great way to build your fan base.
  18. Kopech broke his hand in altercation with a teammate - really. What's with this guy?
  19. Third base might be the landing spot for Moncada if he keeps progressing. That is just my hope.
  20. Remember Larry and the Doc? I actually can remember the night that Chamberlain thought about going after Cousy. We all understood why we Jim Luscotoff(sp) playing for our side.
  21. All reports keep saying the same thing about Sam Travis - hitting machine. What do you think? Love to see a a spring training game with Shaw at third and Travis at first.
  22. how about when McHale discouraged Rambis from driving to the basket against the C's!!!
  23. ABA and Connie Hawkins. For people who never saw him play - just makes you understand how people can actually do the things they do.
  24. I am cheering for him. I am actually cheering for both of them but if I had to bet, I would bet that Shaw will be at one of those corners before bunker hill day.
