  1. Absolutely right in my opinion. You find jobs for people like John Farrell. I hope as we all do that we win the world series this year. Regardless, Farrell is a good person who strengthens people around him. I'm with you on this one for sure.
  2. http://www.providencejournal.com/article/20160222/SPORTS/160229820/SHARED/st_refDomain=t.co&st_refQuery=/1v3lwSj5i2 I really like what they are doing. It makes a lot of sense. Also looks like this kid will in the outfield very soon. Betts, Benintendi, and pick one from the illustrious list that we currently have. Those two could be fixtures for a long time. If JBJ hits, what an incredibly athletic outfield. Defensively and offensively.
  3. i really would like to see Shaw get a shot and I don't care if it is first or third. i'm hoping that the coaching staff is not too happy right about now with Sandoval and that his leash will be a short one. I am sure that he will get his chance but Shaw might be the better player right now.
  4. Catching situation might become classic moot point. Just read that Vazquez is going to be backed off a bit. Having a little discomfort in his elbow. There certainly is a need to take it easy here. Slow him down - no rush.
  5. I have taken a turn. Hanley gets a pass from me. he has done what he was asked to do. He should get a fair chance and I think that he will. I hope things work out for him, not for us but for him. I don't feel the same way about Sandoval. Sandoval will have a target on his back that he can't bleach off. I think both of these guys will have to play well early to be kept around very long regardless of the $ lost. We have other good options sitting there waiting to be used. With or without them, this team is on the verge of becoming very professional (as in no ******** allowed) and becoming a winner. No comment would be the two words that I would encourage Pablo to use a little more often.
  6. "I don't got nothing to prove." = He was making a joke right?
  7. yawn - lol - I feel so sorry for Sandoval as he waddles his way to be bank. I hope he can succeed but I don't think that it is a stretch to think that a big fat majority of sox fans would be a lot happier if he was simply dropped from the roster.
  8. Is he really pregnant???
  9. who is that little guy beside him? It's just not right.
  10. This one sneaked by the guy in charge of pictures.
  11. You are right for sure. We just need to show them a little more love and everything will be just fine. I know that i certainly need some sensitivity training. I take that back. I really don't. I actually don't like either of those two guys very much but I don't hate anyone. When either or both of these two earn their gold stickers i will willingly pat them on the back but not until. There are just to many good young hard working players going about their business for me to be cheering to hard for Pablo and Hanley. If they work hard and produce good for them. If they don't, I think that the tolerance level will be a lot lower than it was last year. They are replaceable.
  12. You might very well be right with respect to Vazquez starting in AAA. If he does, I do hope that it is for the right reasons. If he feels and the training staff feels that he is able to go 100%, I'm guessing that if he does go to Pawtucket that it won't be for long. The Red Sox have created all kinds of reasons for sending people down over he years. If he is the best catcher in the organization, which it kind of looks as though he is, he is going to be the one who will wind up doing the lion's share of the catching. Maybe with other positional players when you have a suitable replacement, you can get get away with hiding a deserving player in AAA for a little while. I am betting on the fact that when you are talking about catchers if you have one that is as good as everybody says he is such as Vazquez, You are going to use him just as soon as you can. Swihart is a good one for sure. The only thing that he can is what is asked of him. Things will work out the way that they are supposed to .
  13. I'm betting he packs away some of them dough nuts I have heard about. I could not have him in my home. My beer supply would be in jeopardy.
  14. I agree with you that Swihart may become a trade chip. But, i don't think he is going anywhere under the assumption that he is a top catcher. He is going to get better if he has the chance to play. How good he could become we won't know for a while. He is a prospect with still untapped potential. What we could get for him in a package is anybody's guess.
  15. We could let them out on somebody's lawn and beat a hasty retreat back to Boston. They aren't bright enough to find their own way back.
  16. Oh boy oh boy !!! Fatsoval and a weenie watcher? this is tough on my old abs.
  17. Says he lost all kinds of weight. Farrell said he looks real good. If he looks over his shoulder, he'll find all of that weight he lost.
  18. Oh c'mon - who else could possibly hate these two lovable mutts? You've got to think that this was money well spent don't you?
  19. Stories already firing up around these two guys again? the media boys and girls must just hate them. Stirring up all of this angst in us fans (lol). Can't be anything to it. Only could happen in Boston right. give them a break - they are just a couple of misunderstood superstars. On the other hand we got Price (remember we grossly overpaid for him) staying late and doing what he can to be the best teammate he can be. We just need to cut them some slack. We are the ones with the issues here right?
  20. I agree. It is just something I think about. i don't think that it is a bad problem to have if it does become a problem. i hope that Vazquez is as ready as he says he is for a number or reasons not the least of which is that having a catcher with his type of talent makes this a better team. In the mean time, i think that we all a pulling for a kid like Swihart.
  21. Ok - it might be close but I'm not sure you got me on this one but with a flip of the coin I might give it to you.
  22. I think that having a healthy Vazquez (if and when) will change how much the Red sox value Swihart. I certainly understand why they didn't consider moving him last year and probably right now as well. You very well might be right and that is why I am a fan and not involved in the nuts and bolts of these types of baseball decisions. I am sure that I would not be hired because I really would not be willing to give up much one on one for Swihart until his skill as a catcher goes beyond the level of potential. Once again - I like him. You going to keep them both? You could I guess. I don't think you maximize the value of either one that way. Possibly introduce Swihart to a different position i guess. I still think that there are better options at the corners. Once again just my opinion but I think the chances are very slim that both Vazquez and Swihart play on the same team for long.
  23. No one should question his athleticism for sure. He is an athlete. I just think that we will have better options for corner infield play from both the hitting an fielding perspective that he can give us. Shaw for one. His sample size is small for sure but so is Swihart's. More power potential coming out of Shaw. Sam Travis in Portland this year is a hitting machine. Moncada should be moved to third or to the outfield. I'm not saying that Swihart isn't and will continue to be valuable. I am just saying that his best value to us is as a catcher who can hit. It would be the classic moot point if you didn't have potentially the best catcher in baseball so close to being ready to go. All that being said, I really don't think anyone will give us any kind of great deal in trade because we think that Swihart will become average or maybe better some day behind the plate. He is a good one for sure but it is tangled and will need to be sorted out.
  24. Manny provided some comic relief for us all throughout the course of his left field tenure. Regardless of how anyone feels about his attitude or his approach to the game, his talent was pretty obvious. Hanley does not compare with him in any way. I hope that Hanley does have a bounce back year but he was by far the worst left fielder that I have ever seen in a Red Sox uniform. Leaving him out there for as long as they did might have been the cruelest joke of all. He has a chance this year to prove to us all that he really is a professional. He should be able to play first base. Looks like he is working at it and he is certainly saying all of the right things.
  25. I think probably I should have said that they didn't want him that badly. Regardless of all the chitter chatter about the Red Sox budget, they continue to prove that if they want someone badly enough they are certainly willing to overpay for that person. They have been doing it for years. Each year their budgetary bar gets higher. The decisions made to not go after a true number 1 last year looked ridiculous then and they look even more ridiculous in hindsight.
