I agree that there is no need to rush these young guys along but there is always the fine line as to what level is best for them to be playing at. You reach a point where you really aren't doing their potential progress any good if they aren't challenged at the appropriate level. The success might make everybody feel good but it doesn't amount to anything. If Moncada and Dubon continue to perform the way they have been, I think that they get moved fairly soon.

Thankfully there doesn't seem to be a major need for anything more than what they have right now in terms of a left fielder. I would sure as hell hate to see any kind of trade for a journeyman outfielder acquired to just hold a spot for awhile. We get that job done from within. Castillo, Swihart (as much as I hate to see him used out there) would make a lot more sense to me. If DD decides to trade for an outfielder, I don't think he will be playing small ball. That should make all the people who hate the use of the bunt happy. lol

What he has meant to the game of baseball, fans of the Sox, New England in general sets a bar so high possibly no one will get to it again. He is what he is - genuine. Oh, by the way, roughly half of hi hits have been extra base hits. First ballot - HOF

The answer may be very obvious to you , me, as well as others here but you can pretty much figure that if the Angels decide to try to deal Trout ( which they very well might) the Red Sox will get involved. The cost might very well prove to be to great but to just cast out the possibility of having him because we don't need another outfielder would be silly. He is that good. You have to at least explore the possibility. Based on past history, you have to think that DD would. -

Agree - He still has value to them and to us. They keep playing him in left field and he keeps hitting at a .217 pace, his value as a trade chip is basically gone. Leave him alone, let him catch (just catch) and he might even be able to help us down the line. One year, two years, who knows. he needs to learn how to catch.

If a trade is made, I'm guessing that it will be a blockbuster for young already somewhat proven potentially great players. We are in a great position right now. Lots of young talent. I don't know whether they identify a specific pitcher or player in general going forward or not. Lots of options. At the beginning of spring training I would have bet on Encarnarcion being in Boston and dhing for us next year. Now, I don't know. Where do we need help right now - pitching and possibly left field. It just looks as though that we have an abundance of potentially pretty good prospects on the way. We may get some incredible offers. I don't think that we are going to get screwed.

Name of thread = speculative trades. I am speculating that the Angels suck so badly that they will listen to offers from teams having the right package of prospects. I'm not suggesting that it is something I would like to see us do but I could certainly live with it for a generational type talent aged 24. I don't really see any moves that we have to make right now for sure. I'm saying and I am not alone in saying it that if Trout should become available, watch out because it is the type of move that Dombrowski would make regardless of how you or I feel about it.

Nothing definitive has been said but you have to believe that there have ben conversations. He does sell tickets but when do the Angels start to win. Eventually they do something. A little out on a limb here but you have to think that DD has at least thought about the possibility having this guy in our outfield. I they do decide to move him for prospects, the Sox could be at the top of the food chain.

Chili Davis and Brian Butterfield both were on the proverbial crap list last year. Winning has made their public persona look so good. I don't know a whole lot about Davis but I do know a little bit about Butterfield. You cannot and will not find a harder working and better coach. Keep winning.

key - there are no absolutes! Think that maybe Anderson and Marte projected to be better than Shaw and Betts? Sometimes we just watch and draw our own conclusions.

ok folks, here we go - MIKE TROUT (24) - He is (if he isn't already) going to be available. Would you do it and how much would you do it for? A generational player! Depending on the cost of course, I certainly would. We have Dombrowski and you have to believe that he has already asked about it and what would it take. There are currently no prospects that I wouldn't give up for him to be honest.

Now I get the fact that winning can make everything seem wonderful but I have to say that I was probably wrong to question the attitude of Hanley. He obviously has proven more than capable of playing first base (as in really good) but it is the way he is approaching the game that I am impressed with. Sometimes it makes sense to just watch and listen and draw your own conclusions about these guys. There is so much written and said that sometimes you really don't know what is going on. Really happy for this guy and also happy he is with us.

first off - you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. that being said, that is the first time that I have heard anyone suggest that JBJ is anything but a gifted very hard working athlete. Your suggestion that he might be "slacking off" or that he might consider himself to be "God's gift to center fielding" doesn't make much sense to me. No one denies that he has made a couple of mistakes that seem a little unusual for him. My opinion is that it has nothing to do with his work ethic.

I think you are right. If he makes a trade, I don't see him going to the junk pile or the discount stores to get it done. Might be for pitching (I hope) or might be for something else.

I don't know if there is enough time for Swihart to develop into what some might call a good ml catcher. I hope that the people who do the projecting are right because he is such a talented and good kid. i wonder how many starting ml catchers converted to that position from another position. it is a tough change to make and he has done an incredible job to date. I'm kind of changing my feelings about him and hope the Red Sox are able to keep him. At the very least, he could serve in the role that Hanigan serves and if he starts to hit again - who knows. Someone said in an earlier post that we don't have much currently for solid catching prospects and I think that they are right.

I have not heard that about Dubon. Actually I brought him up initially because he is playing and hitting as well as Guerra was before the trade for Kimbrel. I'm also ok with his lack of power as long as he pick em at short. I agree with you that he could have a major league future as well. With respect to Castillo - in all honesty I don't think that there is enough time for him to actually learn how to play the game. His instincts just aren't there for someone who was so highly regarded.

I would think that trying to acquire another outfielder at this time for much more than spare change would make no sense at all. I don't think that Holt provides a long term answer but who knows. I still have a little support left in me for Young. I think that he for sure needs the somewhat consistent at bats. I certainly wouldn't trade much for an aging 4th or 5th outfielder when we will have better options very soon that come from our own program. Talking quality young pitching though is another story. Right now, I don't think that they need to do anything.

Over coaching can be as bad as just plain bad coaching. the data can give you good helpful info but sometimes you just have to let them play. Sitting Shaw for any pitcher would be ridiculous regardless of what the numbers indicate. sometimes just letting them play is the best thing. i'm sure that he will have his ups and downs but I like his ups a lot more than his downs.
