  1. well duh ??? really - Actually it isn't a forgone conclusion that Swihart will wind up back in Boston this year. My opinion is "heck yes" both Moncada and Benintendi will outhit Swihart.
  2. bagwell for anderson at the time didn't look all that bad. hindsight makes it look ridiculous.
  3. this one even sucked at the time
  4. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he can play a decent left field . Will his bat put him ahead of benintendi or moncada?
  5. I've read everything that I can find about Swihart. I hope that he becomes the player that everyone thinks that he can. I do not see him ever playing left field in Fenway. He has looked so far to actually be quite a ways away from being an everyday ml catcher. I would feel better about his Fenway future if was currently hitting just a little at the AAA level. Maybe today.
  6. who's that again? pablo who? On the bright side for Sox ownership - it could be worse - we got a pretty good third baseman out there making a little over 500 thousand.
  7. Before my time as well. Read some great books. I did see Ted play in 1960 though.
  8. injury - he would have been out there if he could have been
  9. I worked half days that summer and tried to get to the golf course some afternoons. I used to carry a little transistor in golf bag so I could listen to the day games. An unbelieable summer.
  10. I'm a Williams guy all the way but what Ortiz has brought to the Red Sox in addition to his great play, Ted really wasn't interested in bringing until much later on. Mantle was for sure that good but for watching Mays play was other worldly as a kid. Williams would get my vote as the greatest hitter in the history of the game and #1 Red Sox. Ortiz has move ahead of Yaz for me I say with a heavy heart. In my summer of '67 eyes though, no one had a one year performance like Yaz.
  11. If Dom D. had been in center on that day, Pesky wouldn't have had to even think about that classic double clutch.
  12. Kelly says he is on the mend and just about ready to get back at it.
  13. Kind of like what Ortiz said about his first pitch homer the other night. He had a pretty good idea (70% chance) of what was was going to be thrown. Chill and Vaz were probably figuring on a 100% chance of a fastball coming. No guessing required. Said it was the longest ball he has ever hit.
  14. Chili's simple approach seems to be working. Good to see Vazquez pound that one out last night. He may just become a much better hitter than anyone thinks he can.
  15. glad to clear things up for you
  16. now you are getting my attention Slasher
  17. yes hie is - what a shame it would have been if he hadn't gotten the chance to start.
  18. If you are willing to put up with the ********, you get to voice your opinion on all things Red Soxian as near as I can tell.
  19. very nice play. you go on contact down the line you may pay the price - good play both ends.
  20. Maybe it is a man crush maybe it is just who I am but I love this guy. I really wish that there was some way I could get him to meet any or all of my grandchildren. thanks to Ted, i've got a little 4 year old who will be at the game on The 20th. A little young but first time. he gets the chance to at least see a living red sox legend in action.
  21. There is very little vindictive nastiness in iortiz. tough guy - whatever the hell that means - probably not but who cares. My guess is that he is a pretty good guy.
