  1. I think that Farrell could put the names of the catchers (excluding Hanigan) into a hat and pull them out one at a time. Play them in the order that they came out of the hat and it wouldn't make any difference. You could go so far as to change the names on their jerseys and it still wouldn't make any difference.
  2. Pretty sure he meant me.lol
  3. I think that Pomeranz's "injury" plus the amount of innings pitched for the year, could be what gets him left off the playoff roster.
  4. Relax- deep breaths required - is it not possible that they sign Ziegler, Uehara, or Tazawa? Maybe 2 maybe all 3? It is my opinion that this team will be just fine if they go out and sign Encarnarcion to a reasonable contract. No one in their right mind would advocate for throwing the kind of money the Red Sox have at bullpen pieces. You know perfectly well that if a trade is made for a TOTR pitcher it will cost at least one good position player. You have mentioned JBJ. Really? Take his production and Papi's out of the lineup and try to replace it from within? Really? 60 plus homeruns what 200 rbi's? Good luck with that coming from within. If they did 0 this off season and simply signed EE to a reasonable contract they would be a pant load better off. You can hyperventilate over the monetary issues that this team faces this off season, I choose not to. I do not see the problems that you see.
  5. I think that I agree with you here. I also think that they don't have many really high profile moves to make during this off season. They are in pretty good shape. If they decide to go hard after another starter this winter it will be via trade. They may sign another bullpen guy but I'm sure that they are hoping for a healthy Smith return. Papi's retirement creates a power hole in the middle of their lineup that makes them all better hitters. A patchwork of really good potential players might very well fill the hole adequately but if you are the Boston Red Sox why would you do that? It is conceivable that by sticking EE's bat in the middle of the lineup they might not really have to do much else at all.
  6. Benintendi may very well wind up hitting for a higher average than JBJ. Moncada may very well wind up being more powerful at the plate than JBJ. I like things that I feel confident about. A player who plays everyday, hits 25-35 dingers, north of 75 rbis, and a gold glove. I hope that our young prospects develop the way we want them to. JBJ is there.
  7. I like your thinking.
  8. Thumbs up on this one and why not? What's to lose? Setting myself up pretty well for this one. I'll add also that if they make a trade, it won't involve JBJ.
  9. meant to say going forward - crystal ball says so
  10. bradleys 25-35 homeruns a year going coupled with a gold glove or two will be what makes him too valuable to trade.
  11. yikes - prescient - pusillanimous
  12. prescient!!! good word - just want you to know that I pay attention. i think that there are people here now who claim to be able to see both the past as well as the future clearly. If only we could get one mulligan.
  13. good - he deserves to be first up - he is the best we have right now!
  14. yup
  15. At the time, I also was thinking Pomeranz. The point I am trying to make is that even though it is a practice that does get used, I don't think that using a pitcher for much other than just pitching in the American league makes any sense at all. I think that that is also kind of sad but is what the game has become. i would have felt better about the whole situation if whoever he chose to put in there had just looked like maybe they could have scored from second on a single. If you use any pinch runner, shouldn't that runner be able to run just a little. Maybe Wright is just way more athletic than he looks.
  16. I don't disagree with you at all. I also think that it was a poor choice but I also think that we are hind sighting this to death. My question is - Who else would anyone here have used to pinch run? - backup catcher? not a good idea. A relief pitcher? probably not. Another starter? I don't know. Who?
  17. Vegas has Ortiz 2 to 1 leading the way
  18. Not an unreasonable way to go for sure if there is a free agent starter out there who could be targeted. Who would it be next year? If there was a big pitching target available this year, I could see them doing this or maybe trying to solve the issue with the dh from within. But, if there is not someone out there, I don't think that we need to try to save any of Mr. Henry's money. I'm happy that he is willing to spend it.
  19. just saw this - so very sad
  20. you are right here - just prospects for me to offer here though. I still believe that they lock up their current outfield so no one gets traded. they don't need to. What is the worst case scenario? We bring back essentially the same team with a legit bat to replace Ortiz? Not too bad. if you could land Archer say for prospects and say Shaw (first and third or dh), it would be a go. if it meant Moncada going, I could live with that for Archer.
  21. I'm reading 0 into it. I was just happy to see him out there. Personally I would prefer him to both Hanigan and Holiday any day. I do no see their offensive talents jettisoning them ahead of him on the depth chart.
  22. Not the point at all and Spud is right - weak sauce. Need to move on.
  23. glad to see him out there last night. Looks like he knows what he is doing to me.
  24. If Tampa came a knocking looking for prospects and offering up Archer, I hope the Sox would open the door.
  25. You would be the one who has done the research - although I did know about about Berry and what's his name. Not sure I see where you are going if you are comparing Moncada to these two. Regardless of how much faster than both of the two you reference Moncada is, I would rather have him learn how to steal bases at the ml level in a regular season game as opposed to the playoffs. He doesn't have the experience.
