  1. Me too. Not sure it is safe to say on here these days. lol - If he really, wants to go for it all, what the hell, go for it. sign the big bat.
  2. Well - I know that I have posted this probably too many times. I understand this opinion and I respect the opinion. My opinion is different. I would not send E- Rod down based on anything other than how he pitches and whether or not he is injured.
  3. I understand what you are saying and I normally would agree. You can call the eye test fake if you like. In this case, I think that there is likely to be some good competition. So are you sold on having E-Rod start the season in the minors? what would you do?
  4. I wouldn't want to bet on any of the possible scenarios for sure. Buch could start, be traded, move to the pen, or go to the dl. Pom could start, go the pen or go to the dl. Wright could start or go to the dl. E-Rod could start or be shipped back or go to the dl. All kinds of things could happen. I think spring training in this situation really needs to happen just to sort things out.
  5. Now seriously the point I guess that I am trying to make is that I place less value on a player's options that they might have as opposed to the ability level that they play at. I do think that in this particular case spring training makes a difference. If three or four of these guys perform at the same level without clear standouts, then yes the games begin. If you can't keep them all, someone goes down, and probably someone goes to the pen. If E-rod stands out this spring and pitches to the level that he is projected to pitch at, no I do not think that he should be sent back regardless of what options he might have. I believe the best players should be playing.
  6. Evidently we share some common traits. I am one soft talking, fun loving, all around good guy. Tell you what - earlier I wished you a Merry Christmas. I am upgrading that to a Happy New Year as well!
  7. I have no idea how I am ranking these guys. Just the eye test I guess. I think that E-Rod is a better pitcher then the other three.
  8. I'm nasty? ok - I'll certainly stop being that way. How about you?
  9. Cut what out?
  10. I'm sorry Moon but why is it if you are all in on Emp9's post, he sounds so much more optimistic about the future of the franchise then you do? I realize that you will now tell me how much you liked all of DD's moves except the Pomeranz deal but as you do, you will also be warning us all that our future is in dire jeopardy due to the fact that DD has decimated the farm and that we have done a poor job drafting and that international signings are going to be so much more difficult. For the record, I still don't mind the Pomeranz trade and I believe that the future of the red sox will be just fine due partly to fact that we have people in charge who know what they are doing. If Henry, Werner, and DD get traded, we might be in trouble though.
  11. I feel the same.
  12. stop cussing - that is not characteristic of you - plus don't be suggesting million dollar bets - someone might accept.
  13. You are very much right. i can only speak for myself but seems to me that the suggestion is that if I think that the red sox might find a way to get over and around the loss of these highly touted prospects, then i just don't know what I am talking about. If I can't accept the fact that DD has nothing more in mind than winning in the upcoming 3 year window with no regard for the future, then I just don't get it. We all understand that trading good prospects will indeed have an effect on our farm. Some sort of reaction follows most actions. To date, all of his moves have been made with regard to making our team stronger. I have no reason to doubt that any future obstacles that we face will not be dealt with in a way that keeps our team solid and competitive well in to the future.
  14. I've met a few Canadians down here in florida. I enjoy their company very much. A few of them even can play a little golf. Maybe it's the climate they come from - maybe it's the beer they drink - we just seem to have more in common than many people I have met down here. some are even scottish - a beautiful thing.
  15. No - Your card is fine I'm sure. I might be too old and crumpled to read it.
  16. One time- as in this past summer, I was on route 302 and did not see any car with Maine plates. All Mass. Wait - I'ma Mainer. I think I missed something. 302 is the major East- West highway in Maine? Only if you are one of those Portlanders. route 2 might be a little closer. lol all in fun. You are certainly right about one thing - our state is in a different world.
  17. You don't get a vote! Before you get to vote, we have to see your Maine card. would establish that you have been a resident of the Great State of Maine for what say roughly 20 years.
  18. yes - ok - I think I understand that.
  19. The last sentence is a tad nasty I think but oh well. I'm just guessing that I can understand most of the concepts that get thrown around here. You always risk losing a very good player every time they step on to the field. If you are saying that you think that there is any justification for sending better players down because you are planning for the bad things that might happen in the future and you want to have them there just in case - that's good I guess. Your opinion not mine.
  20. Ok - now you crossed the (state) line. North of Portland where men are men.(You get to decide for yourself about the women). We let the gov. handle you down staters.
  21. ok - I'll be the sucker and bite. let's say you got 3 spots already locked up right? You agree? In their cases, it doesn't make any difference what kinds of whips, bips, knockouts or whatever right? Those 3 are in for sure. So now you got Pomeranz, Wright, E-Rod, and buck snorts all battling it out for the last 2 spots in the rotation. I guess I should have been clearer- I agree with you in the event that E-rod really sucks and gets outpitched in spring training then yes I would consider sending him down. but since I happen to think that he is a better pitcher than all of them, he would have to suck a lot more the way I (and probably a few ) others see it. Good try with the Pedro comparison but sorry I would not just send a better pitcher back to the minor leagues just because you wanted to have a stronger bench. I'm trying to be nice here because obviously no one else agrees with me (sarcasm) but I think it would be a sorry assed day when then happens to someone if they have earned the right to be there.
  22. You are a Mainer so I obviously am going to respect your opinion. I think that we both live in real Maine too. Leon has been known a defense first catcher. I'm ok with either of these two actually. And to be honest with you, I don't think either one of them has the all-stamp on their head. They both could get the job done though.
  23. But, I would add to my previous statement that if he pitches in the WBC and the Red Sox shut him down because they feel he has over worked and could jeopardize his future as a Red Sox pitcher , I am ok with that. That is my idea of nothing in life being fair. You don't always get your own way. As a pitcher, his first loyalty should be to the Boston Red Sox.
  24. This seems to be a damn difficult concept for some people to understand. Your best players play. That is just the way it is. All things being equal - everybody healthy - best players play. In basketball, you actually might be able to convince a kid that coming off the bench makes your team stronger by telling him that it is more important who is on the floor when the game ends as opposed to when it starts. That kid probably gets more pt than someone you choose to start. Not the same in baseball. There is nothing wrong with rewarding someone who is a better player. Being fair means running an intramural program. Don't think that flies.
  25. thank God that Farrell now is able to let the best players play. If E-Rod is one of our top 5 starters when the season begins, he will and should be in our starting rotation.
