  1. plus the fact, I'm bored. What else you got? lol
  2. i must have been a bigger a-hole of a coach than i thought I was. i would have gone nuts on this one in the locker room of course. lol
  3. Why - beats the hell out of talking about what the ideal batting order for this team might be. i actually like reading and talking about something that deals with what is going on on the field of play.
  4. So you are asking me what they should have done. i like this because it deals with a real baseball question so understand before you blast back at me that i'm just telling you from my own experience what I would have liked to have seen done. First of all you can't just assume that the infield fly rule is going to be invoked on any given play. maybe it should have in this instance but it wasn't. moreland has to be a little off the second base bag, as he was, because you know he isn't tagging up on that ball. Pedroia should have been at least a third of the way up the line. Maybe he gets thrown out going back to the bag if Hardy catches the ball and maybe he doesn't. i'm thinking that maybe JBJ should have just run down the first base line. In any event, when that ball hits the deck, moreland should have been on his way to third - Pedroia on his way to second- Bradley standing on the first base bag. Baltimore gets one out but not two. I don't agree with you that it is way down the list in terms of baserunning mistakes and if people want to blame the coaching staff for this then i guess if we have a group of players who need to be told to run when the ball hits the deck we might be in some trouble.
  5. not possible based on where these guys were standing. moreland should have been able to take one giant step back to the bag. pedroia was standing on first base. They weren't where they should have been but at most if hardy catches the ball it is one out.
  6. i can tell you that certainly with respect to the 1967 season we were very surprised. Kind of thought that we were going to be better and it was exciting to see some talented young players but no one I knew at that time had any real expectations of winning. i think that your observation is a very good one. In '67, .500 would have looked pretty good. In '17 not so much.
  7. i might have been what some people thought of as a reasonably tough coach although I always thought of myself as a fun-loving kind of guy but in this case I would have been fairly upset.
  8. Not for me. You know me by now. I do not think that Red Sox are operating within the framework of any kind of budgetary restriction that most people think they are and I absolutely believe that the best players you have should be on your ml roster regardless of available options. if there is any chance that the comedy of errors that we call third base can be solved from within it definitely should be explored.
  9. There is no way under any circumstances at all that Moreland gets tagged out 3' from second after watching the ball fall to the grass whether or not an infield fly was called. Pedroia just standing on the bag really isn't acceptable and I really don't know what to say to anybody who wants to give Bradley any kind of break for not running to first on that ball. Those are simply stupid mistakes that very good teams just don't seem to make. These types of situations probably aren't points of emphasis everyday for these guys but it does kind of make me wonder exactly what baseball activities they do before games other than repetitive hitting and fielding. It's safe say that at some point in time they were taught everything that every kid who has ever played this game in America has been taught. It is also safe to say that just like the rest of us, saying you learned something ten years ago doesn't mean that you can be expected to remember exactly what it was that you learned. Sad!
  10. Pretty sure that Sandoval will get one more very good look. If he can't do it, and Devers is still playing well, there is nothing that could be hurt by bringing him up. if he comes up and can't get it done, back he goes. If his psyche is so fragile that a move like that might hurt him in terms of future development it would be good to find that out now as opposed to later as well.
  11. Oh I know. I was just kidding anyway. This has been a particularly frustrating beginning to a year for me. Unlike some, I never had great confidence in our ability to produce runs. I felt that with outstanding pitching and very good defense that we would be ok - win the east ok. Obviously we aren't scoring runs. I think not having anyone that any opposing pitcher really fears can change the complexion of any game other than Ramirez on a regular basis (sorry Mookie) has hurt this club greatly. Our defense has been unbelievably bad and the mental mistakes that we make almost on a nightly basis really are unacceptable. My position is that I hope things get better but i am pretty sure that what we have seen to date really is the team we have. We need a healthy Price for sure. Going forward if we don't come up with an explosive power bat to help us out, it is apt to be a long run for all of our young potential superstars.( a little sarcasm there)
  12. Jesus Christ (sorry) you are s***ing me really. All that stat stuff - I can't follow it . thanks though. i will tell you that those early 60's teams were really something. Actually though they did have some guys who could pitch - Momboquette , Wilson(who could also hit the s*** out of the ball), Moorehead. Wilson and Moorehead both threw no hitters.
  13. Doesn't matter - maybe even a real athlete
  14. I sure and hell hope that no one is surprised that another New England team is demonized. We cheat - we are racists - the beat goes on.
  15. there must be some medication you can take for this
  16. i don't think that just getting on base is enough for this team in general these days. If it were not for Hanley, there would a power shortage the likes of which I have not seen in my 60+ years of following this team.
  17. I am just absolutely appalled at this team's inability to mentally do the things that kids are taught before they are 15. i'm not going to blame all of the baserunning gaffs and the apparent misunderstanding of the rules of the game on the coaching staff either. If they are professionals, they have been taught what they need to do. Fielding errors, continued baselining mistakes combined with the lack of hitting is sickening. I say over rated!
  18. probably somewhat of an unpopular opinion but Wright's overall fitness level looks pathetic for a professional athlete. it might not relate directly to a pitcher's arm strength and his ability to do his job all things being equal but when you are talking things like knees, hips, backs and such it doesn't look to me as though wright has done much to help himself. Using him as a pinch runner under any circumstances was ridiculous but that aside it doesn't look to me as though he has done much to help himself either.
  19. Devers 5 for 5 with a couple of clouts last night? Guess I need to make a trip down to see him.
  20. i'm trying so hard to work through my frustration issues with this team. On the one hand the thought is that these are the best professional baseball players in the world and then there are obvious things that make some of us cringe. When Sale pitches, i would not take that attitude that the offense is going to someday come around. He and Porcello I think deserve more. Now I get the fact that not everybody believes that bunting to move runners along makes any sense. When these two guys are on the mound with most of our current lineup, i would at least consider it but from my perspective I'm not sure that they could actually execute the right bunt. With a one run lead, and Sale dealing, Leon on the base paths later in the game, am I really the only one here that might have pinched run for him. He isn't the slowest player we have - looks to me like maybe Moreland wins that award, but really get a run for these guys any way that you can. I'm very happy that we won the game, but really!
  21. yes!!! i think that it could have been called an infield fly but not should have. It was a tweeter. Ultimately it was one of the poorest examples of baserunning I have ever seen.
  22. The draft pick alone no, i don't think so but if they were able to sign Heyward they would be very very close. their future would look outstanding. iIf they thought that they could convince Heyward to come to Boston, I would never trade that pick.
  23. Let me see - He is not a third baseman
  24. How about the next time you do anything you give it 110%.
