  1. I think that it is also reasonable to assume that even though he was safe, there are plenty of people who did and would disagree with the move.
  2. no question - aggressive. Game tied, winning run
  3. I remember that game by Rohr like it was just yesterday. What I mostly remember was the catch by Yaz to keep the no hitter alive. i was a big Reggie Smith fan too back in the day. i really enjoyed listening to him last night. I actually remember seeing him play a little second base. What I hope everybody heard were the words said about Yaz. His legend was forever cemented during that 67 season. Like Reggie said - he carried that team. Interestingly enough, he talked about how comfortable everyone else was with having Yaz in the lineup and how positively that affected everyone.
  4. I agree - fans probably care more about the batting order because regardless of where it is on the importance scale if not paying attention to it cost one win, that would be too much .
  5. I'll add - getting thrown out at third when a groundball is hit to short in front of you is stupid. Getting picked off a base because you aren't paying attention is stupid. Forgetting how many outs there are - yup stupid. Plenty more.
  6. What do you think though - i bet we could have one hell of a debate on here over what separates stupid from aggressive?
  7. Seriously - correct me if I'm wrong here- It isn't the compilation of the saves that matter, it is how effective the guy is who is doing the pitching. Total saves might tell us something about a closer but certainly not a real significant way to rate them. Might make some of them some more $ I guess. Logic might say that if a pitcher is leading the league in saves, he might be a decent closer I guess. The batting order is something that is controllable by the manager and although it might not be the most important thing that he does by a long shot, a poorly constructed one might cost a team games. I don't see how there could be an excuse for screwing that one up. In defense of Farrell, I guess I might say that on any given day he might have a variety of choices to fill the key spots in the order. I guess that that is a good thing also.
  8. It was an aggressive running play on the bases that was the right play. Big difference between stupid and being aggressive. Aggressive includes things like stealing bases and hit and runs as well. Whether you happen to like and appreciate this type of baseball, personally I think it is a must for a team that has hit like ours has. They are going to run into some outs along the way but to not use the speed that we have and wait for more base hits, would be a crime.
  9. Just did my look back from memory. Prior to Mike Ryan and the acquisition of an older Elston Howard (who we all were very happy to get). I remember Tillman and Nixon very well. I did go back over the 67 roster and Moses did not appear. i could have sworn that he made at least a cameo appearance that year. I wonder if George Thomas was there?
  10. Max come on - not a fan but a fan of the moves he makes? He must have done something really personal to you or a member of your family. lol
  11. add - lee "the stinger" Stange, Jose santiago, Jerry Moses
  12. Sounds good - like a plan. I need to read more carefully I guess.
  13. Don't misunderstand me here. I think that we all likely care about these types of things. I'm simply stating my opinion which might not be the popular one. I'm ok with that. I think that it is ok if we all believe what we want to believe. It would not surprise me at all if John Henry blows the lid right off the luxury tax limit. Also, he might not. I'm not making any judgement on what he might or might not do until he actually does or says something to make his position clearer. i doubt that happens. He has the money to do what ever it is that he wants to do.
  14. I don't think that they are silly suggestions at all. I just don't share the opinion that he is dead set upon staying under the luxury tax limit.
  15. I also believe the budget is a real thing. But I will still say (although I don't really care) that I have never actually heard John Henry make any statement that has to do with how he chooses to spend his money thus I don't guess at what his agenda may be. I also really do find it humorous how many people here sound like they in fact really have a clue about what he considers his budget to be. Unless they sit right in his inner circle, which i guess they might, they don't.
  16. So - here is how I interpret what you are saying Notin - Jeter could care less about building the future Marlins team based around one of the truly great potential players of this generation. I am just suggesting that trading off this kid would be the pr nightmare that no one wants to have. I think even Jeter cares about that just a bit.
  17. I would think not. They might listen to him though. I agree that it is good to dream.
  18. Going to have to stick to my primary point here - Many of the people who post here. seem to care more about the Red Sox budget than the primary owner does.
  19. You just keep writing - don't worry about what it looks like. Most of us can figure it out. I was kind of thinking Doerr. It is probably a good thing for Pedroia that he can be mentioned together with Doerr.
  20. if Stanton was to come to Boston, do you think that Jeter would ever be allowed to even enter the state of New York? Don't see it happening.
  21. I'm just glad that you are posting. For me, the simple historical value of the things that you write are very significant. Seeing is believing in my book. I have read about how great Foxx was and i did appreciate how good Williams was but I saw none of Foxx and not much of Williams. Bobby Doer or Dustin Pedroia - who are you going to go with?
  22. it's kind of obvious to me that we have any number of posters here who care one big s*** load more about the luxury tax limit and all of the crap that goes with than John Henry does. We are lucky - he is very wealthy - he wants to own a winner today and tomorrow.
  23. Agree - it just seemed like the right time. Good common sense!
  24. What I will also say is that I am very glad that Devers was not traded earlier. i feel the same way about Mookie. Whoever the GM was who had the foresight to hang on to these guys ( throw Benintendi and JBJ in there as well) did us good! I actually do think I know who that GM was but due to my advancing age, his name has slipped my mind. (LOL)
