  1. Thank you for the update. Your opinion is that we gave away some soon to be all-star calibre players. I just a little more of a wait and see kind of guy. Do you also post on a Yankee forum board? You are a doctor as well? Busy kind of guy I guess. When I was teaching, I wouldn't have had the time. Oh well.
  2. They have done well. Superstars - not in my opinion. A group of pretty solid ball players. The voice that I keep hearing is the one that says we have given away too much talent to allow us to compete a couple of years down the line. I don't agree with that voice. As for other teams trading with us, I think that it's great. i hope that the players we traded away do develop. other than Margot though how are they doing? Did some of them put up numbers playing at any level this year that would indicate that they are going to live up to the hype that surrounded them while they were here?
  3. I understand this although I still absolutely feel that many of our minor leaguers are and have been over rated. It does not concern me at all that we gave up what we gave when considering what we got. Understand also that I to believe that things will get interesting in a few years. They always do. It is the way things are. To some, there is a cliff. That implies a rather sharp sudden drop off. I don't think that has even a remote chance of happening if John Henry continues to own the franchise. The cliff is an opinion that some are promoting. it is their opinion. Mine says that it doesn't exist.
  4. We also have no way of actually knowing what the future may bring for any of the players traded away. I'm a fan not the GM thus I really get excited about the next season and not so much about what might happen 2 or more years down the road. I understand that it is something to talk about for sure but when someone beats this foolish cliff concept to death I do see an element of misery and doom and gloom in their forecast which doesn't work for me.
  5. Stock piling players in the farm didn't really serve us particularly well and is not a philosophy that I think of when I think of rebuilding anything. it is about the quality not quantity. Of all the prospects that have been dealt recently, I will anxiously await the day that one of them proves to be just a little better than Margot. I really don't see what I consider to be that many young "stars" that came along while Ben was here. Lots of decent quantity i guess but outside of Betts maybe Beninetendi, maybe Devers someday. Oh well, i'm just an old lifelong fan who wants to have something to look forward to each year. I like the aggressive, competitive approach that our current GM has.
  6. And therein lies the rub for even the most diehard cliff believing DD disliking folks out there. Is it even conceiveable if the franchise remains in the same hands? I think not. I am really looking forward to the next decade of Red Sox success.
  7. It is ok Oh Foy - You will likely also be told that in addition to batting average, things like ERA, wins and losses, saves, etc. have limited use in today's analytical world. You get to decide. Personally I still think that each individual stat does have some significance. When all else fails, I still actually believe what I see.
  8. nice job -
  9. M. Morris adds another good dimension for the C's. it's for real.
  10. yup!!!
  11. Good test for the green tonight.
  12. I like it - Is this where I say thanks Ben? He must have at least been alive at the time these events happened.
  13. No assumptions necessary with me. I much prefer a competitive team year in and year out as opposed to 1 title followed up by 2 or 3 years of dog s***. It's hard to win a title - you got to make the playoffs first followed up by a pant load of luck. I also think that our illustrious forum board is making much too much over the contributions made by stuffed shirts not actually making plays for us. As for Price - If he should go because he is a dink, i probably could get on board with that but I would want Pedroia stapled to his shirt when he goes out the door.
  14. Come on - Doesn't whoever the GM was when Cora played for us get the credit? Without that wonderful experience, I'm sure that he never would have come back. Theo and Ben must be given some credit for this don't you think.
  15. I agree with you for sure and that what makes getting there any way that you can so very important. Relying on one specific way to get to the post season and to just be able to compete for a championship is not a recipe for success. It really is why I truly enjoy the hunt - the battle just to be able to play late. I love the fact that this is the approach that our team seems to take. Some times it works and some times it doesn't. Going in to full rebuild mode just guarantees you nothing.
  16. Oh Slasher - no no - What are you going to say when Price comes out of the gate next year throwing well? Will we have the worst trade of all time in Pomeranz and the worst contract of all time in Price? lol
  17. Saw Rozier play in a game at UConn - he was a legit star then and seems to be maturing very nicely. The Celtics bench is going to be a strength for them. As for last night's game, many very good teams would have had defensive breakdowns and mental lapses when things really got out of hand. Celts played hard the whole way. Stevens is just one hell of a coach I think.
  18. Doesn't hurt to have people who know something about the game helping out.
  19. I'm sure glad of that.
  20. and Jimmy Leland makes three - come on. Maybe it is just taking a break from new age ********. Who knows.
  21. DD had a lot of prospects. That I grant you. At this point in time not one of them really has no brainer stamped on the forehead. Believe me, I wanted to keep Moncada but i just had to settle for Sale. DD did what he had to do to keep us competitive. Listening to some of the squawkers here makes me wonder what they wanted. We could have kept all prospects - oh yeah but none of them would be playing for us anytime soon. We can of course hindsight every move that ever gets made by any GM simply because that is what we do. We are competitive. We have a competitive team led by a competitive GM who wants to win. We will continue to be competitive in the future.
  22. Seriously - haven't seen a Celtic team defend on every possession like this since the 60's. Not as good a those yesteryear teams but they are fun to watch.
  23. Dick Williams brought a cast of young characters for the most part along over the course of possibly the most memorable summer of play that we have seen. People do tend to remember the stars or future stars and what they did. But keeping that team together with the pitching staff that they had following Lonborg and the revolving door at numerous positions was magical. After the Conigliaro injury, they could have packed it in but they didn't. Williams should be on every list of Red Sox great coaches whether you saw him or not. One star - one blue chip star and a bunch of kids. Very little comes close to what they accomplished. it began and ended with Dick Williams.
  24. Tatum has struggled just a little of late - the kid is just 19. I really think that we are looking at a future all-star. It will be interesting to see how the minutes get distributed when Morris gets back. Might be tonight.
