  1. Cora is as unlikely to listen to any of the ******** flung around here as DD is. Thank you thank you thank you. Normally I would say something like leave them alone and let them do their jobs but in these two cases I don't think that they need to hear that.
  2. I'm not advocating for him to trade for Machado. Kind of too bad that I have to say that but oh well. Obviously it would take players who are on our current roster. It is a little silly for anyone to even think for a minute that he gets traded for a bunch of guys who likely will never have an impact at the ml level. What I would say though is that anyone who just simply dismisses the idea of DD thinking big an pulling off another stunner, hasn't been paying attention.
  3. Thornburg might be the one that looks bad I guess. Although there has actually been a sighting. Giving up Miley for Smith - I'm ok with that. Worth the risk. To date the rest of the crew traded away who are actually active don't look like the ones that got away.
  4. I don't see DD standing pat at the deadline if he feels that he can improve this team. Go big or go home might be something that could be said of this old horse trader though. You never know what big name he might be interested in. If it is Machado, he will know what he needs to do to lock him up. He won't bring him in as a rental. To date almost every trade that he has made has helped this team.
  5. I'm not sure that when Jackie took the ball to left a couple of times last week he intended to do it. I'm guessing that it was an accident. So few players in the game today hit for contact even when down 2 strikes. Controlling the bat is becoming somewhat of a lost art and that is a shame. Hit em where they ain't is still a damn good philosophy. And yes using the bunt either to move a runner over or to move the ball away from a shift should still be seen as very valuable to players. I care not one bit if when JBJ does hit the ball he hits it hard if it is right at someone. It is a waste. Rather than just flail away and hope for something good to happen I would like to see him make s better effort just to make contact and put the ball in play.A team skilled at manufacturing runs normally is a good team.
  6. Cora has one of the best power hitting run producers in the game today hitting in the 3 hole. Cora is too young to be old fashioned. Good for him for getting it right.
  7. Hanley was released and no one really knows the entire story. I believe that there is more to it than the vesting option. That was certainly part of it but I'm thinking that the Sox are happy to be rid of him regardless of what the real reasons might be.
  8. As do i. he was not rushed up. Because he was young and an unfinished product we all hope, does not mean that he was rushed up. Nor was there any panic for God's sake. He was certainly the best available option and regardless of how some feel he really ain't that bad. His fielding is improving and that bat has been productive. He should be left alone. he is our third baseman and probably will be for the foreseeable future.
  9. yes yes right back to baseball -
  10. I agree that no one to my knowledge has knowingly slammed the foundation but for anyone to assume that the people who make up the foundation have not been negatively affedted by all this is ridiculous.
  11. It is absolutely a never-ending list of people who have been extremely successful and have done amazing things with their lives who could be accused of all types of things that just don't seem to be acceptable when taking the high road today. We do not live in a perfect world. I really hope that you aren't suggesting that any of my comments seem to be sugar coating the bad to use your words. I am just not as quick as some to make judgement calls on the lifework of people that I really do not know very much about. Sorry but I guess that I am one of those people who like to look at the good before considering the bad.
  12. I hope that that is the case.
  13. I really hope that you are right but I personally don't really believe that. My guess is that there was more to this than Hanley just not hitting. The Sox cut him loose and if people want to think that the only reason was the impending option, that is all good. If he signs soon with someone maybe it proves that point. On the other hand if he is not signed soon by someone, there really might be a little more to this story than his biggest supporters want to hear. Whatever, the Sox have cut him loose and it doesn't look like they are losing sleep over that decision.
  14. Ok so what is going on. If Hanley had the kind of value that some think that he has, why has he not signed some where with someone? if you could get him for next to nothing, why would you not take a chance with him. Unless of course there might be actual reasons that we don't know about as to why he has not already been signed.
  15. This my friend is an excellent post. "Go Up For Glory" was one of my best reads as a kid and a die hard Celtics fan. Russell prevailed and thrived in an extremely difficult environment. This is why I absolutely hate mixing athletics with politics in general. I was a fan of the RedSox as I am today beginning in the fifties. In all honesty I did not know who the owner was. I did not care nor do I particularly care today. I really don't give a s*** about what color you are or anyone happens to be or my God forgive me what your sexual preferences might be. We all have our own story to tell. if we are lucky we make it. Everytime the Yawkey name is used in reference to racism tends to vilify the family and the family foundation. I think that that is absolute ******** and the height of hypocrisy.
  16. I would put Holt there and leave him there. He is a better second baseman than Nunez. Nunez still plays just as much but at a few different positions. it isn't Pedroia's bat out there that will be missed the most.

    Correct!
  18. Oh my - you are talking my language. One of my favorite players was Pete Runnels. Jackie Jensen! Without googling his stats people here (most not all) have no idea how good he was. Reggie Smith - Mike Andrews - George Scott.
  19. Holt to second and Nunez everywhere else for me.

I'm with you Max on this one. My world is imperfect and I don't need to see perfection on the diamond to make life better. A beautiful game becoming less beautiful as far as I'm concerned.
  21. I don't understand this. You didn't think that Wright looked like a baserunning phenom walking off the mound last night.

I agree and I don't think that we are going back anytime soon but I think that by using reply to the extent that it is being used is taking something out of the game that I know I have always enjoyed.
