  1. what what what did I read - who is the enigma now? I'm kidding with you. Sometimes you have to say it the way it feels. I don't make a habit of it myself but to me it's called passion and I feel badly for those who do not have it. We have two pretty reliable catchers. Neither can hit but not a big deal when you are talking catchers as we all know.
  2. I get the fact that people are upset that Pomeranz hasn't gotten the job done. So am I but there is no way you give up on this kid just yet. How long before it gets to be Porcello's turn to get raked over the coals here?
  3. Aren't you worried about the cliff? lol
  4. I'll bet that it was a really tough one to make for Alex Cora. I think that he was very sincere with wanting to truly see what Hanley had to offer. Hitting him third was no joke and hopefully showed that he had some confidence in him. Making this decision early will hopefully prove to be the best one for all parties.
  5. I just think that with respect to Hanley, it was becoming more and more apparent that he was going to have to be benched and not just rested. Moreland deserves to be out there we all probably see that. I don't think Hanley would have faired very well in a greatly diminished role. Just my opinion - nothing really against Hanley.
  6. We are going to have to wait and see I guess. I still can't get over the fact that ownership doesn't have much to say about another 20+ million walking out the door. I didn't expect it to happen but I did think that if he didn't hit and was forced to sit that problems very well might occur. He was a good teammate while here it seems but I'm not buying the the thought that he might have been above causing problems for Cora.
  7. I like it - unbiased and realistic thoughts. It is going to be interesting to see what Price can give us moving forward. Has the potential to be a bad signing for sure I guess but it might depend on who you ask and what their personal views are with respect to the amounts of money some of these guys sign for and what we can realistically expect form them. I am glad that we have Price for now though. What strikes me as somewhat odd is that in this forum there is a great deal made of the $ and the years involved with some of these contracts and what John Henry ultimately chooses to do. It just seems to me that if he was as concerned about how he spends his money as people want him to be, letting another 2o plus million walk out the door might concern him more. It doesn't seem that way at all. He is either so very wealthy that it just doesn't bother him very much or he must just have complete faith in the people he has put in place to make these suggestions and follow through on them.
  8. I'm from that different time and culture too I guess. I'm not opposed to the idea of Hanley being gone I guess but primarily because he just wasn't getting the job done. The last thing I think that this team needed was another non hitter in the lineup. Particularly batting third, a spot where you have to have an rbi producer. With respect to your reference about the way these guys sometimes look, I don't know. I guess personally I am for a cleaner cut kind of look but I also remember when I wore my hair to my shoulders and no one thought that I would ever get a job. I see things from a different perspective now and I am kind of glad that I grew out of that phase of my life. It was fun though.
  9. Can you even believe it - JD in the 3 hole - seriously - Cora just doesn't get it ! lol Power RBI guy in the 3 hole = perfect,
  10. I wish Hanley well for sure and yes he was a good trooper but the simple suggestion that he might serve as a role model is just a bit too far out there for me. Good for you if you feel this way but my little 6 year old probably won't be modeling his lifestyle after Hanley Ramirez. I'm happy for those who think that he was something that he wasn't.
  11. I think that that last paragraph voiced a legit concern. Take a chance on him being able to accept going to the bench or just release him. Looks like the best move for all was made. Cora didn't need to have to deal with a potential problem of that size during his first year.
  12. It took stones to do what DD just did. As much as everyone likes what was done and as much as so many think that it was inevitable, it took stones. He will be making more big time moves sooner or later. Maybe this year or maybe next year. He'll get who he wants regardless of how much money everybody thinks that he doesn't have to spend. He is just not paying attention to all the advice he could so easily read here. Good luck to Hanley. Never a big fan, but I just kept hoping that he could turn back thee clock to his younger days. It was time.
  13. With that lineup - just use a pitching machine! lol
  14. I'm pretty sure that I was one of those people. I was really hoping that with Hanley and JD going 3 and 4 we would (could) have an unbelievable power combination. Not so much I guess -huh.
  15. I guess it is pretty obvious that I don't google much before I post. Might be why some people think that some of what I say is ridiculous. I think I might be fraudulent.
  16. You beat me to the punch again! You young guys are unbelievable.
  17. Hey this internet stuff is amazing. Just checked my powers of recall all by myself. I didn't do too badly. the event actually happened in the mid 19 th century. The 1975 film - The last Survivors was loosely based on the event so it seems. That was probably the one. good film.
  18. My God - I've been waiting forever! Captain Holmes had to make some tough decisions in the North Atlantic once upon a time. An overcrowded lifeboat wasn't going to be able to make it. In order to save most, some had to go. Holmes made the decisions and had to live with the after shock. It was a classic movie that I can't even recall the name of now but I showed it every year in my History and English classes usually in September. At the beginning of the school year, we spent a great deal of time talking about the importance of values and which we emphasized the most. We had some absolutely great discussions as a result of this movie. Captain Holmes was encouraged by some on the lifeboat to "do it" and he did. Doesn't have much to do with baseball I guess but it is a movie that certainly left a lasting impression. Based on a true story. An old VHS tape back in the day. Thanks for asking! You probably wish that you hadn't though. lol
  19. If he does not start to hit and hit well for us, an obvious issue is going to be created. He has become according to most reports somewhat of a leader for the kids in the clubhouse. I'm happy for him and I think that it says a lot about the person he has become. A good guy who is fun to be around. The but is - if he doesn't hit, you can't possibly pay him more then you pay Martinez if he has nothing to offer. Once again, if he doesn't start to come around, someone is going to have to sit down with him and explain how the economic facts of life work I guess. If Cora continues to play him and he doesn't produce, then maybe someone will have to sit down with Alex as well. I was and still am for giving him a good chance but he needs to start coming around. We might very well need the rbis from the 3 hole that he is not giving us.
  20. he is and has been overrated and now he qualifies as a numbskull
  21. 10 years - 290 and you have your franchise player locked up. Do it - Do it Mr. Holmes!
  22. Maybe someone down there would even insist that he bat third where he belongs! Plus he could even get a little work playing second base while he is there.
  23. and don't call up Pedroia, we haven't won a game with him this year
  24. Red Sox record without Pedroia - 33 and 15 Red Sox record with Pedroia - .500 (0 and 0) lol
