  1. I tried to like him. Oh well.
  2. I like the way you are thinking about this.
  3. Count em up for me notin will you - need to get my beauty sleep.
  4. I've been trying for a while now to make this point but I don't think that anyone is listening. lol It's all about the rings I guess. Whatever, this season is and has been very successful regardless of what is coming up. My prediction of course is the good guys on the correct coast are going to win.
  5. When you surround yourself with good people good things tend to happen. The Red Sox are the best team in baseball. They have been the best team in baseball for some time now. Can they be beaten? Of course - any team can be. For them to ever have been considered underdogs is ridiculous regardless of what the papers say. i'd get some new papers.
  6. It is conceiveable I guess to think that Tito might not have had the balls to call a fool a fool in the end.
  7. You know what, when you actually are talking about the greatest coaches most fans use wins and losses to make their final decision. Most coaches, people on the inside don't. There is so so much more that goes into it. I think that Cora has great great potential.
  8. Getting your players to understand the value of useful analytics I think is probably beneficial but to those guys on the field I'm guessing that it is just a small piece of the puzzle. There are so many other essentials in coaching that have to be dealt with.
  9. Hey I'm ready. I would be ok with it as well. I've been reading the articles. Stunned - surprised - basically the same for me. Maybe I should have said surprised. I think that I am going to have the opportunity to do something that I have dreamed about since I was 4 years old - attend a World Series game.
  10. I think that the thinking for the most part here for sure is that one reason for Cora's success is his age which allows him to better communicate with this current generation of players. Everybody tends to think that he is just such a player's manager right. I bet that we would be surprised to find out how much in reality he is in charge of this team. He is now surrounded with the types of players he wants and he is managing in the manner that he chooses. I'm guessing that he is very clear in that locker room and that he isn't afraid to deal quickly with any and all of the little nuisance items that pop up. If he is what people think a player's coach is fine but I think that he is clearly running the show.
  11. With respect to the ring theory - sorry I don't buy that. I have seen so many wonderfully talented coaches never win one. They just didn't get quite lucky enough. With respect to players and rings - Oh well - poor Ted I guess - I wonder if his lack of rings means that I can no longer consider him the best hitter of all time. NOT That would kind of be like what I have said before that that must mean that Eli Manning will go down as being a better QB than Dan Marino and that is a joke.
  12. i don't think that there would be one Red Sox fan who would question the talent at the plate that Manny Ramirez had. He helped lead this team to championships. He was just big old free wheeling fun loving Manny right? If people didn't like Manny they just don't get it right. Hey - I appreciated what he did and was glad that we had him. There is a big difference between not really liking his act and appreciating his ability to hit. It is ok to folks to feel this way. It doesn't have to be one side or the other. But hey - I don't have to like Clemens to still appreciate what he meant to this franchise either. I'm thinking that might be one of the reasons I like this team so much. I don't see any fools. Maybe I'm missing something I guess but all I see are players who are focused and not in need of constant attention.
  13. OK - this is a post that I truly love - I also consider myself blessed to have a 6 year old grandson who has the early passion for baseball as well as all other games played outside in the fresh air. We can talk about this game all we want to but having experienced and actually knowing the game in my opinion is what it is all about. I don't mind a bit if someone who I happen to think has experienced the game and understands it takes me to school with respect to it.
  14. oh notin - I think that you would probably be surprised to know that there were a few others who could see through this one.
  15. The option of course played a role but we really don't know what the truth of the entire situation was thus the speculation. Maybe I'm alone in my thinking as well but I believe that there was more to this story. I think that the inevitability that he was going to be sitting on the bench caused concern for Cora in more ways than one. Because I think that Cora is a very good manager with an oh so bright future, I'm giving him some credit with respect to the decision to release Hanley which obviously turned out pretty well for us. No drama. Most coaches tend to like no drama.
  16. From the mid to late 50's to the present, if I had to pick an ultimate favorite Red Sox team this would be it but boy it would be close. 67 and 75!!!
  17. I would go with with Francona being number 1 and Dick Williams being number 2. If Cora stands the test of time and deals with the issues that always come up when things don't go as planned, I'm thinking that he could become historic. I will say that even though based on the record and because of the type of person that he is, I go with Francona but it isn't without some reservation. I might be the only one here who feels uncomfortable with the way he left Boston regardless of whether all the reasons were right. Although I like chicken and beer immensely, that incident did not sit well with me. I think that Cora might be tougher than we think behind the closed doors. DD has brought in some wonderful guys with respect to overall attitude and approach but I also think that Cora has had a great impact in who is currently playing and who has and is being brought in.
  18. It would be good if all people would stick to the facts at all times but it seems to me that more often then not people want you to stick to the facts if they disagree with your opinion. Opinions are not always determined my facts. Often there are just not enough facts to gather to support either side. If I had to take a position on this one, I would certainly side with OH FOY. Definite facts don't support either side. Most of what is said here cannot be supported by facts. I say that well knowing that our quantifiers would disagree.
  19. I would absolutely be stunned if Mookie plays one inning at second base during this World Series. I don't think that we are apt to see any types of changes from what has been fairly successful to this point. i like JBJ just as much as the next guy but I'm thinking that he will sit down when we don't have the dh position to use. We'll scrape by once again I think. lol Hey I have been stunned before though.
  20. I'm not sure how personal feelings about Manny have turned in to a discussion about who the better manager is or was. I would also like to think that Cora has at least to coach a few more years before we get in to that discussion. Regardless of my feeling that Manny was a buffoon I'll readily admit that he was a hitting machine and delivered when we needed delivering. I don't think that Cora would wish in a million years that he had Manny Ramirez to deal with right now. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't smell even a remote whiff of a court jester on this team.
  21. Hey notin nice attempt to pat yourself on the back but you'd be surprised to know I bet how many people including some of us here think that Farrell is a good bright baseball guy. You certainly aren't alone. I actually would be interested to know what you do know about the actual game of baseball and the way it is played on the field. I'm kind of a reverse condescender I guess. I'll give you some credit but safe to say not as much as some folks here do. I'm not trying to start anything here so don't think that I am. I was actually trying to make a little joke but probably I missed the mark. Sometimes I think that people really can't possibly take themselves as seriously as they do. Personally I don't take myself very seriously ever unless I am competing whether it is playing or coaching.
  22. Not sure where you are going here. Have to say though that I don't really pay too much attention to the lives that any of these guys lead off the field. i of course route for the hometeam but none of them really meant too much to me.
  23. Come on notin - you would have to swear to this and have it notarized before I'd believe it. lol
  24. Oh I suppose I shouldn't say much because even though I thought he was an nitwit, he still could swing that bat. I fully recognize his value and immense talent but whatever I was and still am a huge Clemens fan. Doesn't make any difference to me whether he was a juicer or not.
