  1. Francona for the most part did a wonderful job for us. He was what people called "a player's manager"- whatever that might mean to any individual. Cora has been referred to as to being "a player's manager" as well. I think that he is as well but I don't see any idiots playing for him. He knows what types of players he wants and can work with. I like that very much. It is as much to do with attitude as it is with actual talent.
  2. Smith sealed his deal a long time ago by throwing the glove and blaming the coaching staff for his latest injury. He does not fit the current Red Sox mold - no fools. I think that even though Cora seems extremely nice and polite, he has a great voice in who plays for this team. He gets it.
  3. That friggin Dombrowski! He has ruined our future. lol
  4. That doesn't make Price a bad person. Makes him intelligent. Like I said, I still like him, but I don't think that he is coming back to hang with us fans and the Boston media. He shouldn't have opted out and obviously he didn't. I'll bet on the fact that he wasn't going to get abetter offer foramen else. I'm glad he is coming back. As for me - teacher, pay scale, didn't make much money, had fun.
  5. have we heard this before - With respect to David Price (God bless him for what he has done), it is all about the $. End of story. There is no way anyone was going to pay him what What Boston is paying him. I'm sure that he is happy that fans seem to love him now but seriously, it is all about the $ with him. I still like him a lot though.
  6. I think that he comes back fine next year and seriously if Chris Sale has a fastball that tops out at 95 or 96 mph combined with the rest of the nasty s*** he throws, suiters will line up to sign him. They probably won't even care a whole lot whether some of our posters think that he is too light, too tall, or even too fragile. He can and likely will continue pitching at a high level for some time. I hope that it is with Boston. We need players like him. WINNERS
  7. The comparison GM thing just keeps on giving. We currently have at the helm as good a GM as there is in baseball. That works for me. I am overjoyed that he came along when he did. Our future is in good hands.
  8. Come on stop that! You think that there are people posting here who aren't wasting their time? I am I understand that for sure but it is kind of fun some of the time. lol There must be a few people out there - anyone who thinks that he might opt out this contract - who don't realize that David Price is an intelligent man.
  9. Is it just me or would I have found it next to impossible to choose the MVP- Any number of players could have received it. Price I guess would have been my pick but I really don't think one player should have been singled out from this team. It isn't particularly important for sure but the principle of even having this award for this team this year doesn't seem to fit.
  10. you do realize what you have done now right?
  11. Smoltz's expertise is narrow?
  12. Be well Max it has been fun.
  13. I'm thinking that maybe they should have just had cheverolet keep the truck and gone with the classic - team MVP - often times it doesn't fit, this time it did. Total team effort.
  14. I have noticed this about you Slasher! I like that. I make at least one mistake everyday so personally I'm kind of used to admitting that I'm wrong much of the time. Now about that crow - How do you prefer yours? fried, baked, broiled, or just raw. The reason I have to date never eaten one is that the crows were always smarter then I was when I used to hunt. It has been a fun posting year for me and I am just about ready to take a little break!
  15. It should have been aimed at me. It is odd how when the last game was coming to its end, I actually kept hoping any ball in the infield would be hit at Devers. I was as happy for that kid as I was for anybody. We are going to suffer a letdown soon with no Sox to follow.
  16. !!!
  17. Seriously Hitch - Have I said that to you one time this year? lol Enjoy the moment. I think that we all have one big thing in common - We love this team.
  18. You are right! It isn't about being superior though. I don't care about that. Moon lays over me with his knowledge of these types of issues. I am guilty of looking ahead I guess and maybe not enjoying the moment like I should. When the last game is over, you go to work on the next season. That is pretty much me and I have total faith that our franchise is in good hands. But once again you are right.
  19. You are something my friend!!! Can you forgive DD for the pomeranz trade yet? (just kidding - I couldn't help myself) This has been a great year for all of us. I bet we all have lost a loved one that we would have liked to have shared this team with. My grandfather and my mom would have watched every game! Win or lose, the Red Sox are a special team to love.
  20. How about this one - Sale throws the first pitch and the last pitch of this season! APPROPRIATE
  21. Are you having one of those moments???
  22. You know it really is going to be interesting to see what happens. Kelly said it best - it really is a shame that the entire same groups won't be back next year. I don't know about Eovaldi. It still wouldn't surprise me at all if they make him a priority this off-season.
  23. Moon - I understand totally how much you have enjoyed this year and how much you have liked Dombrowski's moves and how much of the future you were willing to sacrifice for a ring or two. I get all of that. The problem I am having with all cliff dwellers whoever they may be, there is always an addendum to your praise. It of course is ok and possibly correct but I choose to see the future beyond 2020 or whatever as still being potentially bright if current ownership remains in place and if Dombrowski likes it here. He has been and is as good as there is in the game and I have great faith that he can build successful teams under any circumstance.
  24. I'm going to say this because I truly believe this - JD Martinez provided a sense of protection in the middle of our lineup that helped our hitters better mentally approach every at bat. It is possible that the same thing happened with the bullpen during this series. The concept of having to perform at the highest level might have been eased for a pitcher like Joe Kelly knowing that he had Porcello,Price, Eovaldi, Sale, and even Rodriguez out there to pick him up if necessary. The thought had to be comforting - a pressure reliever.
  25. You have fun on that cliff Moon. You have some friends there for sure to spend time with. It is tough every year to produce a winner but it appears that our GM might be up to the challenge,
