  1. Like most MLB starters, Cole has NEVER pitched on 3 days rest.
  2. We finished 24-36. The thought of Mookie giving us a chance at a ring this year never entered my mind, so I just skipped that part.
  3. And if the Sox wanted him back strongly, they would pay him the most.
  4. Yeah, I was just messing around a bit with that post.
  5. As Earl Weaver said, momentum is the next day's starting pitcher. The Yankees' advantage is Cole. He is the man of the moment. As for Garcia, if I'm a Yankee fan I'm hoping he doesn't have to come into a tight game. He's a kid, and he didn't look that solid in his one inning.
  6. I must say, some of this back-and-forth between old school and new school thinkers is entertaining. I'm sort of in the middle myself. I understand why the Red Sox balked at a $400 million contract. But if I was a Dodgers fan, I'd be ecstatic about locking up Mookie for life.
  7. It's nothing new. Gotta maximize viewership.
  8. Wow, what nonsense. As if Cora would turn it down if the Sox offered him his job back.
  9. Eovaldi, Houck and Pivetta all pitched pretty good at the end of the season.
  10. Nothing pathetic about that at all.
  11. Furious, really? I honestly don't remember that.
  12. I agree. I think Bloom did very well with what he got.
  13. And on the other hand, they only had to pay Mookie for 60 games, so instead of paying him 27 million they're paying him 10 million. BUT they have him for the playoffs. So it was exactly like getting him in a deadline deal... Also, I don't think anyone has suggested Price would be a bargain at 16 million. All I've suggested is that it would be close to what he could get on the market.
  14. It is pretty interesting that the number ended up exactly halfway between our reported offer and the reported counter-offer.
  15. It might look better to you. But COVID-19 seems like the strangest reason ever for a trade to look better. The Dodgers may be the ones who benefited the most from COVID-19, in that it made Mookie more open to taking their extension offer.
  16. Last few innings of the Dodgers-Padres game were some wild drama. Dodgers have a closer problem that bears watching.
  17. It's just that the projections are missing information. The projections don't know whether Beni's poor numbers this year resulted from the injury that eventually sidelined him. Things like that. The projections are raw dumb data. They're not useless by any means, but they're not necessarily the best judge of whether a trade makes sense.
  18. It's just the facts. Yes, we saved some money on Price's contract because he opted out because of COVID-19. (At the same time, we had to pay E-Rod not to play because of COVID-19.) In reality all Price's opt-out did was reduce the team's losses for the year by a fraction.
  19. Those trade valuations really are pencil-neck geek stuff. I do understand the principles behind it, but it's based on pure statistical probabilities and projections. The computers don't know if Benintendi is fixable or if Eovaldi's arm is sound. Maybe no one does.
  20. Personally I hope they both return. Eovaldi pitched extremely well this season, especially after coming off the DL. I realize the injury risk, but the guy's got serious upside too. And Benintendi seems like a guy with pretty good skills who may just need proper guidance and to get some confidence back.
  21. What you're talking about are the COVID-19 "benefits".
  22. But if we hadn't traded him, we still wouldn't have paid him. So trading him didn't save a nickel this year.
  23. Happ's comments after the game made it sound like he hadn't really bought into the move. And we know he was already pissed off about the vesting option thing. And he hadn't pitched in a while. Maybe he wasn't the best guy to try this strategy with.
