    Their payroll is close to $290 million for tax purposes. I wonder how much tax that translates to? I'm not sure if they can get out of paying Bauer or not. The criminal case against him fell through.

    Who would have thought what a blessing it was that trade fell through? It ended up the Red Sox only had to pay an additional $12 million, and they passed. It was fate.

    Well, you made me look it up. ERA has been around since 1912. A whole lot of time passed between 1912 and the advent of modern analytics.

    Still not buying that there isn't a huge difference between 1) dividing runs by innings and 2) computerized data analysis. Good effort on your part though.

    Modern analytics are NOT popular with the 'average fan' the way those well-known stats are. fWAR makes the average fan's eyes glaze over. IMHO.

    Every single Red Sox fan has been nervous about Sale's health starting in about August 2018, if not sooner. We just assumed the doctors who examined him knew what they were doing.
