  1. Sure, like Winckowski, who gave up 3 runs in his last outing. There's no pitcher who's guaranteed to get the job done.
  2. Nonsense. Cora is fine at managing a pitching staff.
  3. But also in the last Wild Card spot.
  4. The odds were heavily against both of them having their worst outings in the same game. But that's what happened. Crazy freakin' game, baseball.
  5. And traded us for Springs.
  6. They didn't give up much for Mondesi, so expectations were presumably low. (I seem to be back in Bloom Pollyanna mode.)
  7. If MLB folded, none of it mattered one way or the other, so there was nothing to lose.
  8. Of course if they were really adamant on getting under the tax threshold there were other high-priced assets that could have been dealt. Under the circumstances, Bloom did a pretty good job, I've always said that. It's easier to say now that Verdugo and Wong are playing the way they are.
  9. At the time COVID had already wiped out much of the 2020 season, which obviously had a big impact on MLB's revenues, and there was no certainty on when it would end, so it's understandable that Betts might be willing to accept a lower amount then.
  10. Well this isn't much fun then.
  11. Yes, that's a valid one indeed.
  12. Absolutely. I have no problem spreading credit around. I think the Sox have done a great job showing patience and faith with these guys. They've done the same with Dalbec, too, he just hasn't really been able to capitalize.
  13. The Sox have been pitching well?
  14. Yeah, it was a faux pas by Verducci when he said Sale was the only Sox starter with big time stuff.
  15. Detroit already took Wings.
  16. Nice to have some younger guys contributing, for sure. Thanks Dave!
  17. If you're talking about Joe Average Fan types, but not if you're talking about Baseball Nerd/Junkie types.
  18. You're a pricklish one LOL I just don't like the sound of Story's surgery. Why not have the full TJ surgery? As any Breaking Bad fan knows, half-measures don't get it.
  19. Nobody ever said a team's name had to be a fit for the place, of course.
  20. No, but Grizzlies made a lot more sense for a team in Vancouver. moon used the example of Utah Jazz and we were just following the same theme.
  21. By the same token though, there are bad defensive plays that don't get charged as errors - an infielder who has poor range and doesn't get to a ball, an outfielder who misreads a flyball and doesn't get to it.
  22. What does Story's arm look like inside, is the real question...
  23. WAR is intended to eliminate those luck factors you're talking about, that's why it should be fairer than ERA.
