  1. The past off season drove me nuts, especially the lack of upgrade to the rotation. You'd think Bloom learned from it, but who knows.
  2. I have to think Red Sox pitching coach Dave Bush's job might be in jeopardy.
  3. There will be moves, but we could be absolutely be disappointed by them.
  4. Mookie is having one of the greatest offensive months in baseball history. I'll recap it tomorrow.
  5. Braves at Dodgers for a 4 game series. This should be good.
  6. Randy, can't you see how everyone else's posts show up underneath the one they're quoting but yours show up on top of them?
  7. Babe Ruth was sold between the 1919 and 1920 seasons. Mookie Betts was traded between the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Henry should have been more of a student of history, or more superstitious...
  8. To add to the parallels, of course: Babe Ruth was sold between the 1919 and 1920 seasons. Mookie Betts was traded between the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
  9. Duvall is 15.8 runs above average on offense in 70 games. Yoshida is 5.4 runs above average on offense in 117 games. One of the things that kills Yoshida's numbers is his speed/baserunning. Duvall is 2.3 runs above average in baserunning. Yoshida is 4.0 runs below average in baserunning. Yoshida is really slow. He leads the team in grounding into DP's by a considerable margin. He's hit into 18. Devers with more AB's has hit into 10.
  10. Cora gave Story the green light on a 3-0 pitch last night, right? That's kind of a common thing managers do for certain hitters who are in a slump, hoping they'll get a fat one. If it works, it's a great move...
  11. And yet Nimmo's fWAR is 3.1 compared to Yoshida's 0.8.
  12. Duvall has a 2.4 fWAR in 70 games. On a pro-rated basis, he's been the team's best position player by a wide margin.
  13. For me it's all about Bloom and his choices, and the realization that Yoshida is a highly paid DH with a lot of issues in his game, and a steadily shrinking fWAR. Some of his current struggles may be about fatigue and adjustment - hopefully that's the case.
  14. That was my bad influence.
  15. Just tell everyone it's been a 5 Year Plan all along and the real awesomeness is on its way.
  16. Not much choice, is there?
  17. You're correct. In the year 2023 the average MLB batter hits: .720 with bases empty .753 with men on base .754 with RISP
  18. Yeah, a little lacking in complete players. We had one a few years ago but he's gone...
  19. It's a start.
  20. And that's his only HR since July 25. Here's another horrible number: in his last 14 starts he has grounded into 6 DP's. His lack of speed and penchant for the DP are seriously cutting into his offensive value. I'm not trying to kill the guy, it's just my deep doubts about Bloom's judgment that I'm taking out on Yoshida.
  21. It's impossible with the state of our pitching staff. Starters can't go 5 innings and relievers are burning out. Bad defense only makes it all worse. Such are Bloom's 2023 Red Sox.
  22. As it stands, Yoshida's offensive numbers are roughly the same as Verdugo's. So the question is how you feel about paying a DH with that profile $18 million a year.
  23. He was on the COVID IL list.
