  1. Potentially.
  2. Oh yeah, we definitely have a need.
  3. I knew that was gonna get asterisked.
  4. I'm proud of the way the posters here respond to these things. I mean that.
  5. You can see that Henry and Bloom have succeeded in crushing our expectations to the point we're not expecting much any more.
  6. Which he might have waived, but reportedly the Sox told him they weren't going to trade him regardless.
  7. Except the Red Sox trend of roller-coastering around the .500 mark. That's been consistent as heck.
  8. Reportedly Bloom dangled him but was asking for a lot. Bloom can do "reported interest" in various ways - he's versatile.
  9. Schilling was drafted by the Sox, just didn't play for them for a long time.
  10. Yanks have won 8 of 9. Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but that's the way I feel.
  11. The Yankems appear to have been re-energized by Dominguez. Yeah, I think they're going to pass us easily and leave us in the basement again.
  12. That trade has to be evaluated with a lot of context, though. I'll always believe only ownership can make the decision to make a trade like that. Bloom was tasked to execute the trade, and it was a tough one to make, because the Dodgers were only getting one guaranteed year, and paying $27 mill for it, plus of course they threw in $45 mill for the remains of Price. I don't think any other teams were lining up to do that.
  13. He's a human being, though (AFAIK), and I think he's embarrassed by the state of the Red Sox. I think we're going to see something newsworthy soon - a spending spree, another CBO canned, rumors of selling the team...
  14. A nasty thought has occurred to me: although Bloom has made some good moves as documented by you, he has yet to make a single acquisition that is what you can call a legit star player, a 3-4 WAR guy - not even for one full season, I don't think. The 2023 Red Sox don't have a single player with an fWAR higher than 2.6.
  15. Like moon I disagree about the trades, but the rest, sadly, seems about right.
  16. It is nonetheless worth asking why he was pitching with a 7-1 lead Sunday. I figure the other high-leverage guys must all have been ruled out to avoid overuse.
  17. Not sure what you mean. Last year they went over at the start of the season. They ended up over by about $6 million. The beef was that they could have gotten back under if they traded JDM or whoever at the deadline.
  18. And it's finalized after all the options are exercised or not.
  19. I was perplexed by using Jansen in Sunday's game too, but I have to think the other high-leverage guys were deemed unavailable. Schreiber and Bernardino had already pitched. Winckowski threw 19 pitches the previous game. They've been really careful with Martin. Could have used one of the low-leverage guys but you know how fast they can cause trouble. It's definitely one of those things that deserved an explanation. Not sure if Cora was asked about it or not.
  20. The tax calculations aren't finalized until December.
  21. Do we have a quote from Mr. Eflin on that?
  22. I'm almost sure the 4.15 mill won't go toward 2024, but if you have info that shows otherwise, link us up. It might go toward 2023 but I'm not sure about that either. This is one of the most confusing parts of the lux tax calcs.
  23. The only thing I'm reasonably sure of is that if Turner opts out none of it will count toward 2024 (just as the buyout on JBJ didn't count toward 2023). I'm not sure about the adjustment for 2023 for Turner. It's confusing stuff alright.
  24. We're seeing more and more contracts like this now. (Look at Wacha's with the Padres.) It gives the player both security and an opportunity to make more. Ergo, it induces them to sign. Obviously the team also figures they don't have much to lose. Turner is having a good year, so it's going to cost the Sox $15 mill. If he didn't have as good a year they'd have for him for 2 years and $21.7 mill.
  25. Yes, they have to pay him the $6.7 mill if he opts out. That's just the way it's written.
