I think everyone knows there has been progress in the youth movement. But it's hard to feel confident in the team's leadership coming off back to back 78 win seasons that cost 460 million and resulted in yet another CBO being fired.

And as you know, others have complained even louder that he should have sold off at the 2022 deadline.

The question is whether they're going to shoot for the playoffs in 2024. That will dictate the general approach and likely the budget as well.

Buchholz had just gone down and they needed a starter. Probably not much else available at the time. I guess you could call him Desperate Dave on that one.

Pomeranz was a starter at the time, with pretty good numbers, and one of the few available at a time of need. It was an overpay but a necessary one.

It sounds good in theory, but I'm pretty sure all these sub-.500 seasons do not fit in with his master plan.

We laughed at the Rangers when they signed Seager and Semien for $500 mill. We laughed some more at them when deGrom went down. But they've also added Eovaldi, Montgomery and Scherzer. I don't think I've ever seen a team go all in for starting pitching like the Rangers did this year.

I'm quite sure JH isn't bad in the way Snyder was bad. But JH's impatience and ever-changing philosophy are real issues, and it's not surprising some qualified people aren't interested in the job.
