  1. Great news for the alumni and the athletic department! They must be happy to look after this.
  2. Down goes moon! It's OK moon, this is no hill for anyone to die on...
  3. Somebody riddle me this one: How in the hell does a university sports program have so much money to burn that they can sign a football coach to a $95 million contract extension, and then fire him with $77.6 million still owing to him? (Texas A & M)
  4. Ref would only be on the bench if Duran is hitting lefties, so how is that a bad outcome? Ref is a bench bat making $1.85 million. Why would you want to trade him? You need a bench. He'd still get some AB's against lefties and would be an insurance policy against Duran struggling vs. lefties.
  5. If Duran is still here, he could start the year as the everyday LFer. If he does badly against lefties he's back in a platoon.
  6. Of course they do.
  7. Another confusing conversation here at Talksox LOL. I think everyone understands that a prospect's trade value is a combination of their projected future performance and their projected (relatively cheap) salaries in the control period.
  8. Nobody can stop. We're like kids in a playground with nobody watching us.
  9. You're looking to go 2023 Texas Rangers. deGrom Eovaldi Heaney Scherzer Montgomery And the 2 big stars in that 5 did virtually nothing!
  10. 7-card poker does provide some good analogies to a pitching rotation.
  11. I think the cases of O.J. and Bauer are pretty far apart on the spectrum. There aren't many who don't think O.J. was obviously guilty of a heinous double homicide. Opinions about Bauer are all over the place. moon's take is one of uncertainty, and I think I'm with him on that. We don't have all the facts in our possession.
  12. If you and Red could confine it to a few posts in a day, the complaints would probably be few.
  13. Thanks for nothing, Bauer.
  14. The $300 million deal hasn't actually started yet.
  15. 0.2 fWAR is absurdly bad. I'd rather keep Sale and sign Duvall.
  16. We have a thread on Bauer and should probably keep our comments on him in that thread. (There, I'm sure that'll work.)
  17. It would be kind of funny if the Sox sign Bauer, after he got the stamp of approval from Mookie.
  18. Don't feel bad. I started a trivia thread in 2020 and it has 51 posts.
  19. The Red Sox still view Tanner Houck and Garrett Whitlock as starters, but also understand the duo could help out of the bullpen, similar to Josh Winckowski’s role last season. Breslow told reporters in Arizona that he plans on building Houck and Whitlock as starters this offseason. “I’m thinking giving them every chance to get built out as starting pitchers makes a ton of sense,” Breslow said to reporters at the GM Meetings. “I think as we start to put into place the pitching infrastructure that we’re working hard to put in place, there will be opportunities to maybe tweak around the margins: pitch usage, pitch shapes, attack plans that can maybe get more mileage out of those guys. I also think just having them healthy and having healthy offseasons and anticipating healthy seasons gives us a better look at what they are capable of doing. So I’m not sure that decision gets made in spring training. My hope is they come in built up, they are viable rotation options and the team needs and how we best kind of put the winning team on the field dictates ultimately (their roles).” Seems reporters only asked about Houck and Whitlock. Crawford did well as a starter, Houck didn't do as well and seems like an obvious candidate to move to the pen, for the reasons often discussed here.
  20. Crawford IS stretched, I would say.
  21. What Breslow said again: So I’m not sure that decision gets made in spring training. My hope is they come in built up, they are viable rotation options and the team needs and how we best kind of put the winning team on the field dictates ultimately (their roles).
