  1. As 700hitter would point out, being around the house all the time is not always the best situation when you're married.
  2. Claymation? He falls short on innings in 2013, though. Was it his 2010 season?
  3. Putting the ball in play is good, but unfortunately Yoshida is also very slow of foot. Which is one of the reasons I really fell out of love with this signing.
  4. The Red Sox have been blessed with 2 elite DH's in Ortiz and JDM. An OPS of .850 is pretty much the minimum for a guy you're paying big money just to hit. Yoshida was a mediocre DH in 2023. His K rate was very good, but his walk rate fell off terribly over the course of the season, and that was supposed to be a big part of his package. He ended up with an OPS+ of 109. Hopefully we see better next year.
  5. I'd like to see Dalbec get 500 PA's with a bottom feeder team to see what he can do. He's still got that big time power, that's what you hate to give up on.
  6. Ha, yes, it's crazy subjective. When I saw that particular proposal of yours it looked realistic. Maybe they throw in a trade for good measure.
  7. I'd call it the minimum of what we need to see. It does get us a #1 pitcher. Maybe the name Wacha would need to be replaced by Sonny Gray or your guy Morton.
  8. That sounds like it's in the ballpark of possible.
  9. Yep. He's averaged 1.9 fWAR the last 3 seasons, which is worth about $15 mill per season.
  10. It started with some of Cora's comments, which obviously must have been endorsed by the team, about focusing more on the present. I think they sent a clear message that this was part of why Bloom was let go. From an article in the Globe on Breslow's introductory press conference: Team chairman Tom Werner described the Sox as being “full throttle in every possible way” in upgrading the roster. “You need great players. It’s not about selling the team. It’s about having great players,” he said. “Generally, you need players who have high WAR to be a winner. Raffy Devers is a star that will be with us for a long time, but you need to complement with other talent.” Breslow described an “unwavering commitment” from above and that all options would be available to him in building the roster. “Resources are not a problem here,” he said. “The commitment to winning from ownership is not a question here.” Even for top-tier free agents? “I don’t see financial resources as an eliminating factor,” Breslow said. “I think that was something that was clear in the conversations that we had. Now obviously we have to line up on a number of variables here. Interest and fit among two of them.”
  11. I'd say their public messaging has definitely pointed toward a more aggressive approach.
  12. Time to give Dalbec a chance somewhere else.
  13. I'll be very surprised if they're not aggressive this offseason.
  14. But we have to start acting like the Boston Bleeping Red Sox again.
  15. Padres declined their option on Wacha. He will almost certainly decline his and become a free agent.
  16. Speculation is the bidding on Yamamoto will start at $200 mill.
  17. I didn't mean that price range.
  18. Duvall should be in the right price range.
  19. Please elaborate on that point.
  20. Also, DHing is resting anyway!
  21. True, but the Braves and Rangers at least seem to have decided the scheduled rest thing may not be necessary for some players.
  22. Maybe he's referring to Bauer only being able to get a job overseas last year.
  23. I think the rest thing is more of a scheduled season-long thing than a day-to-day thing. Some of it would be day-to-day.
  24. Semien had only a .636 OPS in 17 postseason games, .491 in the first 15 of them, so rest proponents might argue he was tired.
  25. No, not another misunderstanding on Talksox!
