  1. I think it's just another sign that we've gotten spoiled, because the fact that Lackey was instrumental in winning a ring gets shrugged off. People don't bitch nearly as much about Keith Foulke not living up to his contract...
  2. Bench coach to manager/more money/team in good position to win.
  3. And the Mets would almost certainly have increased their bid. So how can you say for sure that winning wasn't the priority? He knew he was going to get paid a ton regardless.
  4. True, even our ideas that won't happen are bad.
  5. I'm already starting to feel sorry for Breslow, actually.
  6. Why not give Epstein some credit for the injury clause that tacked on another year at minimum wage. Lackey was good in 2013, 2014, and 2015, which was the minimum wage season.
  7. You're just making stuff up now.
  8. So what? The Mets weren't given a chance to boost their offer. It's not all about getting every last dollar, is the point.
  9. And how does that conflict with my possible explanation for why they fired Bloom?
  10. Please stop flip flopping between fWAR and bWAR.
  11. The last sentence is blatantly false. His 2010 fWAR was identical to his 2009 fWAR.
  12. No worries, it's just Interest. You know how that usually plays out.
  13. Take a look at Lackey's WAR and his dollar values on FanGraphs. It's a myth that it wasn't a good signing.
  14. I'm able to keep 2 thoughts in my head - it's about the money AND the winning. Just like it was with Ohtani and Yamamoto.
  15. The "sacrificial lamb" theory isn't so far-fetched.
  16. It's not the right question. The question is how do they work out in general. The results are obviously mixed, but there are successful ones. I will submit that Lackey was a good signing. He contributed to a title and when he was healthy he pitched well. We were better off with him than without him.
  17. I'll sure there are other teams that would be willing to give him a raise. Seems like many teams are willing to outspend the Sox now.
  18. How much worse can it get than not paying Mookie Betts, having a revolving door of CBO's, and racking up sub-.500 seasons?
  19. I think Snell is clearly out, especially with the lost draft pick. I also have a lot of doubt they're willing to pay Montgomery's price. It's so close to making more sense to punt. But I'm sure they will make a move or two to at least give the appearance they're trying to do something.
  20. And Alex kind of put himself out there with his own "full throttle" type statements about how the Sox needed to approach this offseason. Yeah, he's likely a goner.
  21. I think we can now safely say that the Sox were not really involved in the bidding war for Moto. All those optimistic statements about us outbidding the Mets, Yankees and Dodgers? Sorry folks, this ownership just isn't thinking like that any more.
  22. We need to let it sink in that the Sox were NOT serious players for Moto. So what exactly are they in on?
  23. Checks all the boxes!
  24. They've brought us 4 rings, but lately they seem to have turned into penny-pinchers who are more interested in their FSG empire and in keeping the Red Sox books balanced regardless of losing seasons. Would you like to see them sell? I'm about at the point where I wouldn't be displeased to hear some rumors about a sale. Obviously it all depends who the prospective buyers are. But it really seems like Henry and Werner don't care that much about the Sox any more.
  25. Some post mortem on Yamamoto: -It seems that "the fix was in" to a certain extent in that he wanted to play for the Dodgers from the start. He took the Mets offer of 12/325 to LA, they matched it, and the Mets weren't given a chance to increase their offer. -Article in the Boston Herald about the Sox and Yamamoto suggests they were willing to exceed what they paid Price and that was about it. Which would leave them roughly $100 million short.
