  1. Agreed. Nova Scotia is a great place to live, all things considered.
  2. No, those are for all pitchers. It illustrates the fascinating phenomenon that lefty hitters have more trouble vs. lefty pitchers than righty hitters do vs. righty pitchers - by 24 points of OPS.
  3. I live in one of the most highly taxed zones in the world. The top personal tax rate is 54%, and we pay 15% VAT on just about everything. OTOH most of our health care costs are looked after and education is generally affordable.
  4. 2023 MLB splits: LHB vs. RHP .761 RHB vs. LHP .753 RHB vs. RHP .713 LHB vs. LHP .689 There's still a bit of an advantage to having a lefty reliever available to face a lefty hitter. With the 3 batter thing you often see a lefty face 2 lefties and a righty in between. And of course, if a lefty comes in with 2 outs and gets his man, the 3 batter rule is a non-issue.
  5. Any truth to the rumor Breslow earned a tidy year-end bonus for actually reducing the Sox payroll over the first 2 months of the offseason, which no one in the free world saw coming?
  6. It's unbelievable at this point, Red, it really is. There are some moves coming, there have to be.
  7. According to Spotrac, the Sox were 13th in team payroll for 2023. If they're 13th or lower again in 2024, there's nowhere for this ownership to hide. Especially after firing Bloom and the "full throttle" sound bite.
  8. There's little to choose between them. Manaea career fWAR per 150 IP - 1.97 Wacha career fWAR per 150 IP - 1.88 Projected 2024 fWAR Manaea 2.0 Wacha 1.6
  9. I liked Wacha or Lugo- as a reasonably priced supplemental piece, not as our big splash of the offseason.
  10. Yep, and JH knows it doesn't look like it was all on him, so it was the perfect time to can Bloom.
  11. The Sox don't have to worry about it, that's for sure...
  12. I think it's good that someone is able to maintain their optimism here.
  13. 3 guaranteed, I believe?
  14. Yes, there are certainly reasons to cross him off the list. What troubles me is that the Sox have become so adept at finding reasons to cross starting pitchers of any note off the list...
  15. On that point it's pointless. But it still saves money and boosts the bottom line just as much!
  16. They ran out of budget room for Nate, but somehow stayed well under the tax threshold. Befuddling.
  17. Well, he did win the 2023 Cy Young Award. I suppose that should count for something...
  18. Why Not Punt?
  19. This front office is really becoming Unforgivable.
  20. That's the magic of Diminished Expectations again...
  21. Yeah, 2022 is debatable. His numbers away from the TropDump sucked in 2022. And I'd like to know what his fastball velocity was toward the end of the year. Was it down then, or did he somehow lose his velocity in the offseason? No other teams seemed interested in him. He was the last thing left on the shelf, basically.
  22. Even that is debatable.
  23. No question.
  24. There you go. The Sox front office is using the Law of Diminishing Expectations on their fans, and it's working. We saw it last year when we were actually pleased with the Kluber signing...
