  1. I'm really starting to wonder if being part of FSG is hurting the Red Sox. If there's any "robbing Peter to pay Paul" going on, the Red Sox and their fans sure look like they're playing the role of Peter.
  2. It will affect their farms. But they've clearly made a calculation that the benefits of spending outweigh the penalties. John Henry isn't buying the idea, obviously.
  3. It won't surprise me if the Yanks don't reset, either. They're obviously prepared to have a sky-high payroll this year. Moto would have put them well over the $300 mill mark. Judge, Cole, Rodon and Stanton (total AAV $125 mill) are on the books for a while yet, and they were going to add Moto to that list.
  4. The Yanks will be paying tax for the third straight year in 2024. Seems like they have joined the Mets and the Dodgers in the club of teams that have decided not to worry about the penalties.
  5. We know that the Yankees put $300 mill on the table for Moto, so more than likely they have more spending to do.
  6. I have little doubt Monty would return to the Yanks if the price is right.
  7. I'm not sure how he was a Bloom guy. Nobody hated the trade for JBJ more than moon did.
  8. Seeing how long moon can keep Red on ignore might be a more interesting story than the Red Sox offseason.
  9. Sean isn't a poster here, so it's a little different.
  10. Chapman would be an upgrade. Great defensive third baseman. But the Sox will never do it.
  11. It might be interesting to track how many posts moon and red have made about each other today.
  12. Projected 2024 WAR (Steamer): 2.4 1.8 0.8 1.4 Not exactly Full Throttle.
  13. Shpouting, for short.
  14. Make it EROD and GRAY and the answer from me is YES, I'M COMPLAINING.
  15. Well, I sure hope you don't expect them to meet Burnes's price either. That's the problem with a lot of these trade ideas. You're still going to have to shell out a lot of money if you expect to have the pitcher more than a year or two. Like I say, the next Pedro Trade just ain't out there.
  16. Yep, a dozen teams had a higher payroll than the Sox last year.
  17. And nobody really knows what better options there are. Montgomery is the best FA left, that's pretty hard to argue.
  18. Yes, they're spending less and spending it stupider. Not a great combo.
  19. Montgomery pitched better than Burnes last year. Call me crazy, but I get more excited at the idea of obtaining Montgomery for nothing but money than I do about trading for one year of Burnes who says he has to be blown away to sign an extension.
  20. It's fine to stay patient and optimistic, obviously. OTOH I don't think it's irrational to not have a lot of faith in the Sox ownership and front office any more. At the very least they continue to be a PR disaster. They obviously had a lot of trouble attracting very many legit CBO candidates. They end up hiring a guy who seems to have an awful lot in common with the guy he replaced, including the fact he has no experience for the position. They send out messages about being full throttle and how it's time to focus on getting the team into October, and then they don't even sign a single one of the top free agent starting pitchers (if McAdam and others are right about not being in on Montgomery or Snell). I can see not paying the price for Moto, but we can't even come up with 75 or 80 million for a Gray or an E-Rod? And Montgomery is out of our range too? Are you f***ing kidding me?
  21. The only man with say seems to be the stone-faced principal shareholder.
  22. There's really no indication of any market-setting or major inflation going on this year, outside of Yamamoto, who was a unicorn. A number of guys have signed for less than projected, in fact.
  23. How about some of Cora's comments, back in those exciting days when we thought he had a voice in the team's direction.
  24. For Snell to set the market for who? He and Montgomery are the only 2 starters left projected to get $100 mill or more.
  25. IMHO this Sox front office has earned it.
