  1. Then, in typical fashion under Henry over the last decade, they make Bogaerts the offer of 6/162 that would have been fair earlier, but was now just another joke.
  2. LOL that's almost as nutty as what he got from the Padres.
  3. And there's just no excuse not to get that solid 1-2.
  4. Just use the Bellhorn Ace Identification System. If he's a slam dunk Hall of Famer or at least a strong candidate, and he's healthy, and he's been in good form recently, then he's an ace.
  5. 3.62 FIP and .666 OPSa in those 10 starts, so not really a terrible finish.
  6. No boners here, but Wacha has had 2 decent seasons in a row, totalling 5.7 bWAR or 4.1 fWAR. Wacha's price tag did take a hefty leap this year, though.
  7. The dreaded splitsville splits.
  8. The criticism with Bogaerts is that they didn't make a legit effort to retain him so we'll never know if they could have retained him for a price not much higher than Story's. And Bogaerts has been much more valuable than Story the last 2 seasons. The contract Bogaerts got from the Padres was absolutely absurd.
  9. Yes, definitely maybe.
  10. And our rotation was mainly made up of projects already.
  11. Giolito might turn out to be a nice value signing. Or he might turn out to be the next Corey Kluber at twice the price.
  12. If we look at the other teams in the AL East: -Orioles and Rays finished 23 and 21 games ahead of us, respectively, so they probably didn't need to do much to stay better than us. -Yankees added Soto and Verdugo.
  13. I was patient and optimistic for many years of the Henry regime. I don't feel the need to be so any more, not after the Betts trade and the accumulating pile of sub-.500 teams that have been foisted on us.
  14. To me this signing indicates one of two things: a) Craig is working through an intelligent and methodical plan to upgrade the team while remaining fiscally prudent. or Henry has become a cheap bastard and signings like this are as good as we can expect.
  15. I shall not vomit, but it's definitely a reclamation project.
  16. And yet they're all better than the flotsam and jetsam we have.
  17. In my world, 4 of the top 6 free agent pitchers have been signed.
  18. Yes, I have advanced that theory, and I shudder to think it might be true.
  19. Mainly being the third richest franchise, having a lot of payroll room and having finished under .500 the last two years.
  20. Better positioned as in being a rich team with a lot of payroll room and a freshly re-set tax level.
  21. I don't think so, not credibly anyway.
  22. My counterargument would be that if all it took was a nudge, Bloom should have nudged sooner, no?
  23. Point was mainly about Red calling Kike Cora's boy. Seems to me you could also make a case he was Bloom's boy. And Bloom is the one who opened the door to Kike playing SS by not getting a legit fill-in.
  24. It's all speculation.
