    I agree. If he's healthy Oswalt is a very good pitcher. I'm still hoping we can get him.

    Speier's numbers show that we are going way over the LT threshold. People need to realize that and stop talking about staying under the threshold as a possibility.     His numbers look pretty comparable to Jackson's.

    That revenue sharing penalty kicks in in 2013, and it's phased in over 4 years, starting at 25% and going to 100%. The LT threshold increases to 189 million in 2014.

    Personally I think it's going to be a very entertaining season, especially with Bobby V at the helm.

    I dunno, I think that up close & personal approach is mainly for the monster deals like Teixeira etc. Most of these guys are such mercenaries, you could meet their wife, their kids, and their pets, but the only thing that really matters to them is who's the highest bidder.

    Yeah, right now they are acting like a bunch of bargain-hunters prowling around a flea market where the tables are really getting bare.

    Not entirely. The postseason is an extension of 'down the stretch' IMO.

    How about Teixeira's postseason numbers for the Yanks? 27 games .170 batting avg. .302 slugging pct. A real Mister Clutch!

    Of course it is. I think a lot of Sox fans are just paranoid right now, and it's somewhat understandable, given the September meltdown and also the injury plagues of the last two years.

    Fred, the Yankees just signed your old pal Delcarmen, and he didn't even pitch in the majors last year. Doesn't that say it all about signings like John Maine? They scoop these guys up thinking there's a chance in hell they might get some use out of them. This s*** goes on all the time. In the days before the internet we wouldn't even hear about transactions like that. Now we're all over every little news flash. You have to ignore some of this stuff.

    Matsuzaka threw a 21-pitch bullpen with no apparent issues. Sounds like he might be back a little earlier than had been expected.

    I think some of the nicknames like Hi Ho Silva and Short Order Cook are fine because they're clever/goofy Chris Berman type stuff. But Putritek is a whole other type of nickname.

    'Intangibles ********', jung? I actually think that's pretty funny, especially after having about a million arguments over the last 5 years with people telling me what a lousy manager Francona was and how he was costing us 10 games a year. Well, I guess you weren't one of those people.

    Yes, the 2007 pitching numbers are very interesting. Beckett was the only starter who had an exceptional year, but we led the league in ERA. The overall numbers put up by the bullpen were outstanding, including guys like Delcarmen.

    Yes, but a) Elktonnick's statement was 'give me a team that has contended without a shortstop'. Our pitching flat out sucked in 2005-11th in the league in ERA. We won 95 games with sucky pitching and Rent-a-Wreck butchering it at SS.
