  1. I'm just frustrated that a team with our resources has seen its pitching slide steadily to the bottom of the league the last few years.
  2. Maybe our organization is just doing a s***** job at coaching and developing pitchers. The track record the last 5+ years would indicate that. We're getting nothing out of our system. And it's kind of funny that a guy like this would get picked up by another organization and succeed right away.
  3. Seriously? I didn't know a thing about Gonzalez. He was in the minors. The Orioles scouts saw something in him that our scouts didn't. It looks to me like our scouts screwed up. Simple as that.
  4. Too bad we couldn't get somebody like Miguel Gonzalez, the pitcher who beat us last night. Oh wait, we did have Gonzalez, for 3 effing years. We gave up on him, the O's signed him, and he has a lower ERA than any of our starters. More great work by the Sox organization.
  5. Yes, that's the bright side of sucking this bad. Good players are useless to us, so there's no need to pay anybody good money.
  6. I don't think so, because we'd have to overpay him.
  7. I can't see much point. If Rivera does come back it'll be for one year only, and I doubt he has any interest in wrapping a career as a Yankee legend with a one-off for another team.
  8. I'm not so sure it's ridiculous. We paid him 12 million last year. The AAV of his contract with the Phillies is 12.5 million. 4 years is long for a reliever, but Papelbon has proven himself to be very durable, and this year is no exception.
  9. Some of these overpaid guys can be pretty useful. Overpaid Ortiz had the highest OPS in the league when he got hurt.
  10. The Red Sox are for sale and Cano is suspended. Keep it comin' folks.
  11. And, as Palodios keeps pointing out, he's only mid-tier.
  12. They certainly could contend for a playoff spot, considering that they now only have about $50 million in payroll committed for next year. The rest is up to Benny Boy.
  13. So why don't the organizations hire smart guys as managers? Maybe it's because if you're smart you don't want to be a baseball manager.
  14. You could be right about Ellsbury and PED's. Nothing would shock me anymore, and when a guy's power suddenly spikes like that it naturally raises suspicion. Personally I have to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point. If he never comes close to 2011 again it'll certainly look like a Brady Anderson deal.
  15. But you think most managers are idiots.
  16. So why isn't he on a similar pharmaceutical regime this year? He got away clean last year. Why would he go for a big one-off season in 2011 when he doesn't become a free agent until after 2013?
  17. OK well if you know it was steroids, I guess that's that.
  18. To me they seem like they're already f**ked for this year.
  19. Kemp puts Soxgers back on top 7-6.
  20. That depends. Some teams may see Ellsbury as 2011 Ellsbury. All you need is one who sees it that way.
  21. Man, can you believe this. The Dodgers have blown a 6-0 lead in the 8th. Beckett was cruising with a 2-hitter through 7, only about 70 pitches. Then he goes home run, single, home run. Then A-Gon makes an error. Unbelievable. 6-6 after 8.
  22. .700 OPS, seriously? Career is .794, last year was .928. This year is .700 but last 9 games he has 4 multi-hit games and his OPS has gone up 50 points.
  23. We don't even have one starter with a good ERA, so just about anything sounds like an improvement.
  24. I have always said that too. It's actually a little over 103 million, so about 17 million a year.
  25. Yeah, I don't disagree, but if they can get a serious return for Ellsbury it may be the right move...for the 2014 team.
