  1. Like I said, the Orioles are now in big trouble.
  2. "Hello, Ben? Ben Cherington? Hey, Ben, how's it going, man? Um, listen, man, I'm calling on behalf of the gang here at the Talksox forum. You've heard of us, right? Yeah, I figured that. Look, Ben, we have a favor to ask. If it's not too big of a deal, could you please trade Daniel Nava this offseason? Yeah, we keep having these really silly arguments about him and we're getting tired of it. You can do it? Hey, that's awesome. Tell Daniel good luck for us. And good luck to you with the rebuilding thing."
  3. Sabathia was 0-2 with a 6.38 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP vs. the Orioles this year.
  4. Go Orioles. Keep the magic going and take the Yankees down and out.
  5. + reams of football and golf. We are going wall-to-wall, baby...make sure you've got backup batteries for those remotes.
  6. OK I'll make predictions...I don't want to be a stick in the mud.
  7. I've never seen the point of making predictions on sports. I freely admit that I have little idea what's going to happen. Betting on sports is different. It's even dumber than making predictions, but at least it has a point.
  8. Home field advantage in the baseball playoffs is not a big factor. You lost 2 of 3 in the Bronx to the Tigers last year including Game 5. You also lost 2 of 3 in the Bronx in the 2010 ALCS. So that's twice in a row you've blown the home field thing.
  9. The buzz is pretty strong that it's going to be Farrell. And I'm hearing a lot of negativity about Farrell already. Great...
  10. I think the Orioles and the A's are just as capable of beating the Yankees as the Tigers are. I don't believe in that head-to-head analysis stuff very much. The Orioles and A's are the teams that have been playing the best baseball the second half. Whichever team loses the first game in your series tomorrow is in big trouble.
  11. The A's are 57-26 in their last 83 games. You don't have to fear them but you should at least respect them. I think they will take down the Tigers.
  12. I agree with most of that, but I think they did try pretty hard to retain Lee.
  13. See ya later Rangers.
  14. Yep, nice gag job there by Nathan.
  15. Uehara was terrible in last year's playoffs. Was he hurt or something?
  16. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, but I don't think it's that big of a disadvantage for the Wild Card team that survives. Their pitching might be a little off schedule but on the other hand they'll be the 'hotter' team coming off a big win.
  17. I don't think this new format does much to resolve inequities. With 3 divisions, we already have major inequities. Detroit is in with 88 wins in a weak division. I don't see why they should be sitting back while 2 93-win teams play off.
  18. Good post, jung. I share a lot of the same thoughts.
  19. Hey, Valentine thought he was good enough to be a #3 hitter. And good enough to pinch hit right in the middle of an at-bat.
  20. You're right, the team was beyond awful I've been reduced to arguing about small points.
  21. Nava's OPS before the All-Star break was .815 and after the break was .607. He actually performed better in the games that were more meaningful.
  22. This is exaggeration to the point of horseshit. If he's league average in OPS then it's wrong to say he can't hit and has no power. Those things are sort of factored into OPS. He had 6 home runs and 21 doubles in about half a season's AB's. As for his fielding, FanGraphs has him at a -1.5 per 150 games UZR, which is only slightly below average. They give his arm a + rating. He had 5 assists.
  23. Hey, having an ace would be great. The same way having another Manny/Ortiz combo would be great. But the fixation with having an ace is kind of silly IMO. Plenty of teams with Cy Young winners have missed the playoffs over the years. An ace can add a few wins to your record, no question. So can adding a good #2 and a good #3. Aces have become pretty damn expensive.
  24. So you agree with Chin Music that the average MLB hitter and fielder sucks.
  25. Oh, I would have bailed hard if Nava didn't have that little resurgence at the end.
