  1. It seems that Farrell has put himself in the position that he can only put Nava in for Gomes if we lose a game. Kind of a weird situation, that's for sure. But I guess it wouldn't be the Red Sox if there wasn't something weird going on...
  2. OK, you win. Our offence kicked theirs.
  3. If you assume Ellsbury being replaced by Bradley, it'll be the same situation as this year. Victorino would be backup CF.
  4. 3 of our runs were unearned. They outscored us 18-16 in earned runs. The best you can say is that the offences were roughly a wash.
  5. Wait...what...what in the name of God are you talking about? I trust this is based 100% on your personal observations, since it has no relationship to any numbers. Seriously, Dojji, that was brutal.
  6. If the edge you're thinking of is that we outscored them 19-18, then we had an edge. Overall, Tigers hit 254/329/330. Sox hit 202/277/332. Our offense was abominable. We won with pitching, defence and a few timely home runs.
  7. That's what smoking does to you...if it doesn't kill you first.
  8. Personally I have to back the manager in a case like this.
  9. Absolutely true.
  10. Farrell will not say so but I think he just has a lot more confidence in Gomes, including the ability to come up with the big hit. Which he did in Game 6 with the double off Scherzer that was a foot or two from being a game-tying home run.
  11. Normally I'd agree, but Napoli just homered off two very tough righties in Verlander and Sanchez. He was arguably our biggest threat for the last 4 games of the ALCS. Hard to see him sitting down for 3 straight games. Tough call either way.
  12. Uehara's WHIP of .57 this year was the best single-season WHIP in history.
  13. I think if we play all 3 of the games in St. Louis, Papi will start two and Naps will start one.
  14. Well after all that, Sox in 6 it was.
  15. I remember when he said it. We had a big lead in a game, and he said 'if the (can't remember which team) come back and make this a close game, I will...'
  16. Jesus, calm down. I just thought it was a funny line by J.E.
  17. All the more reason we need them stuck with paying A-Rod this year.
  18. Jeff Bagwell, OTOH, had horrible postseason numbers. Only 129 PA's, but still.
  19. Hitting in the clutch is certainly something that can be evaluated by statistics. But are there any hitters who consistently perform better in those situations? I haven't even checked out the numbers on Beltran, but he seems like he might be a good test case.
  20. I get what you're saying, but I think I get what Spitball is saying too. I think he is factoring in the size of the player's contract. Ortiz and Pedroia make $15 million or less. AGon makes $22 million and has one of the biggest contracts in history.
  21. It seems to me that the Tigers pitching has been phenomenally good and it's our pitching (incredible relief pitching) and defence that has saved our asses. Nothing we could do would necessarily generate more offence. Just keep pitching and defending our asses off.
  22. We have been stoned 4 straight games by the Detroit starters. We have not scored a single run in innings 1-5 in the series-barely threatened to, in fact. Crazy.
  23. I know that didn't come out exactly like you meant it.
