Not buying it, SoxSport. When the games start people have a habit of wanting to win 'em. Lots of people already talking about the Sox repeating.

Ha...if only it worked that way for everybody. I remember in the 2005 season people ragging on Francona for sticking with Millar, ragging on Epstein for Clement and Wells and 'Rent-a-Wreck', ragging on Foulke for sucking, ragging on Manny for being a malcontent etc. I remember 2008 for people ragging on Francona for getting outmanaged by Madden etc.

We'll see how mild you stay when the real games start up again, Fred.

I don't think everybody in the Yankee FO is on the same page LOL

Schilling actually had World Series heroics for 3 teams. In Game 5 of the 1993 WS, with the Phillies trailing the Jays 3-1, he pitched a complete game shutout to keep the Phils alive. They lost in Game 6 on the Joe Carter HR.

Yeah, in spite of whatever flaws he may have, I agree with this.

And we'll know how shrewd Scotty has been when his client signs. It appears that if in fact the Sox have made him an offer it's for a low AAV...if it's true they want him to be a super utility guy they may have only offered $6-8 million a year. Who knows, really...

Yankees think their bullpen is all set obviously, after replacing Logan with Thornton and Rivera with nobody.
  9. Bellhorn04
Well OK, a few of the picks are pretty obvious. You don't have to be a baseball Nostredamus to know that the Dodgers will win their division or that the Astros will suck.
  10. Bellhorn04
Nobody can predict any of it. I have no idea why people even waste their time with this stuff.
  11. Bellhorn04
Seems like a distinct possibility. But we won't know for sure till Drew signs.

It's a little shocking to see the calamities that have befallen Schilling since the end of his baseball career. He had seemed like one of those people who would always be on the winning side.
  13. Bellhorn04
    Yes, well said.

LOL He rankles me too. I guess I just see him as a symbol of greed. I enjoy his failures.

I view all the heartbreaks before 2004 through the lens of 3 championships now, and it puts a much pleasanter perspective on things.

Manny's game-winning bomb against the Angels in the 2007 ALDS.

There's nothing wrong with my memory at all, I'm just pointing out what the most recent rumors are. And John Farrell ain't the general manager.
  18. Bellhorn04
Way to read all the posts again, Fred! (You obviously missed the one about the Sox wanting Drew to be a utility infielder.)
  19. Bellhorn04
Robertson may very well be able to do the job as closer, but he needs to be replaced as setup guy. As of today they're down one pretty big piece from last year's bullpen.
  20. Bellhorn04
I'm baffled that the Yankees haven't done more about their bullpen. They spend hundreds of millions but they won't outbid the Rays for Balfour?
  21. Bellhorn04
Hellickson had elbow surgery last week. As we often ask when this happens with a Sox player, why didn't he have it right after the season?
  22. Bellhorn04
According to MLBTR (Jim Bowden) the Red Sox have made a 2 year offer to Drew.
  23. Bellhorn04
I don't think the Yankees are quite done with their upgrades. They've come too far with the spending not to be willing to spend some more.
  24. Bellhorn04
Spudboy's posts are always worth reading.

Pitch counts are here to stay, folks. If you think managers are going to start leaving guys in for 140 pitches, think again. Stats show that when a pitcher is left in too long in a start, he usually struggles his next few starts at the very least. Dice-K's overwork in the WBC by the Japanese team is probably what cost him his career.
