  1. It has to retain a lot of the features of the old Fenway, including the Monster, naturally. Like the Yankees did it.
  2. It's all good now, because Fred posted this on the Offseason thread: Well that means I can't bitch and moan now that I've made that prediction. I wanted to be the first one to do it but just couldn't bring myself to do it, so my pal Elk set the tone. And if they go South, I've changed my mind.....I won't bitch and moan........just tell everyone how disappointed I am. Then we'll all be. Now get over your shock. Carved in stone.
  3. He's right though. The 'I told you so' wars on message boards are the worst.
  4. AKA the Rocket. I've only seen him on tape. He was an awesome skater and goal-scorer. But I would submit that he was one-dimensional in that his sole talent was scoring. Much the same as Bobby Hull, who was my hockey idol before he turned out to be such an ******* (jumping leagues and beating up his wife). Another guy who deserves mention is Mario Lemieux. In one of the international hockey series Lemieux played on a line with Gretzky. They put on an incredible show.
  5. Gretzky was a scoring machine, no doubt about it. Orr gets the nod from most people because he was the greater all-around player. He was dominant at both ends of the rink. Orr led the NHL in points scored twice as a defenceman.
  6. It's the time for optimism for both Red Sox and Yankee fans. There is room for upticks everywhere you look.
  7. But both Ellsbury and Gardner had an OPS+ almost identical to the previous year. Some of the decline was in line with league-wide offensive decline, and Ellsbury was also affected by Park Factor. There's no basis in metrics for them having off-years last year.
  8. I see your point there. I'm just trying to think along with the Sox FO. They don't seem too high on older pitchers these days. And $50 million is not chump change, when you factor in the luxury tax implications and flexibility for 2016.
  9. I thought Johnson was considered a decent pitching prospect.
  10. Fair point.
  11. I can't see how a trade for Lee would appeal to them more than signing Shields. Assuming Lee is healthy you get 2 years for $50 million. The delta between that and Shields's contract is 2 years and $25 million. Shields was younger with no injury ? and didn't cost any prospects.
  12. Now picture Ruth on roids.
  13. Ruth, Jordan, Orr and Jim Brown Hockey is: 1 Orr 2 Howe 3 Gretzky
  14. It's a WWF tag-team match.
  15. Bard was a freak case. He said he wanted to be a starter so they let him give it a shot. No one could foresee that he was going to become a victim of an extremely rare malady like Steve Blass Disease.
  16. Unfortunately, only their Twitter accounts arrived.
  17. Yeah, I'm sure they would let him do that.
  18. If they do trade Swihart for Hamels, of course, it automatically leads to this question: 'Why the f*** didn't you just sign Lester?'
  19. It's that 12.5 million buyout that makes Lee's contract extra scary. If he gets injured you could end up paying him 37.5 million for a year or less. From everything I've read that 12.5 million is guaranteed money. He either gets that or he gets a second year at 25 million if he reaches 200 innings and his option vests.
  20. I like Cliff Lee too. But if the Sox were unwilling to give Shields 75 million for 4 years, I can't see them giving up a prospect and 37.5-50 million for one or two years of Lee.
  21. Papelbon too. Has to be the worst management in baseball right now.
  22. I find your position abundantly clear.
  23. The extension was triggered by the opt-out that kicked in after 3 years - 3 very good years by Sabathia. It was the opt-out itself that was deadly.
