    In theory the sequencing of the batting order maximizes the number of guys on base with the middle of the order bats at the plate. If you have your 2 worst OBP guys hitting 1-2 it's going to reduce the total number of men on base that Bogaerts and Ortiz have when they come to the plate.

    Game 6 showed that the baseball gods had finally decided to smile upon the Red Sox. Getting Schilling ready to pitch and getting 7 strong innings out of him was a miracle. The only other pitcher we had who was anywhere near fresh was Arroyo.

    That's a tricky one, because as Sox fans know all too well, bad decisions can cost you big games. It's kind of random, really, how often a managerial decision directly affects the outcome of a game. The biggest in game decisions are making the pitching changes at the right time with the right guy. More now than ever with the big workload carried by bullpens.

    If Farrell advocated going with Shaw and Holt over Panda and Castillo, and bringing up Vazquez as quickly as possible, you definitely have to give him some credit for the team's performance.

    In the 2007 postseason our late inning outfield was Ellsbury in left, Crisp in centre and Drew in right. I still get the warm and fuzzies when I think about that outfield.

    Good question. The numbers say Machado, Davis and surprisingly, Trumbo, are carrying their offense. And their bullpen has been phenomenal - that might be the key right there.

Holy crap, talk about making the rounds, 5 teams in a year. It shows you what some guys go through to try to stay in the big leagues.

    Funny thing is I was very disappointed in Mueller in the 2003 postseason. Little did I know what he would do in 2004.

    I think Ortiz has always been pretty good at hitting to left. 2 of the home runs he hit in the 2004 postseason were over the Monstah (one to win the series against the Angels and one in Game 5 of the ALCS.)
