I realize that. But mvp keeps beating the drum about Koji leading the staff in appearances, and it's not factual.
Seriously, if Koji is that fragile he was used exactly right. Get what you can while you can and then replace him. For the Red Sox bullpen of 2016 there are a lot of innings to be eaten.
Ah hell, they should just show porn clips while the replay is being reviewed. People get bored sitting on their hands, I get it, but there are remedies for these things.
All that is true. But also true is that your ideas about the batting order are based on gut feelings and old rules-of-thumb like 'highest OBP should lead off'.
Read Kimmi's comments on the batting order. She has looked into this stuff in great depth, including all the Sabrmetrics research. She knows what she's talking about.
I respectfully disagree. Safe is safe and out is out. Pedroia was out on the steal attempt last night. Ump got it wrong, replay fixed it-quickly, because it was obvious.
Koji may have been overused somewhat in April and May, but it wasn't like he got Scott Proctored. As I pointed out earlier, at the time Tazawa went on the DL he was leading the staff in appearances, not Koji. And Kimbrel was almost the same.
But if you take a close look at his numbers you will see some definite good signs.
His strikeouts per 9 are better than his career avg.
His walks per 9 are better than his career avg.
What's doing all the damage is his hits per 9.
He is also now leading the AL in innings pitched.
The team's management has more data and more knowledge than we do, folks. It's comical to think any of us can do a better job with the batting order than they do.
Kimmi, doesn't all this tend to argue that Price is not actually having that bad of a season?
His fWAR is now 3.2, which is worth $25.4 million per FanGraphs. He's on pace to exceed his salary in value according to FG.
This is usually the way it works though. In MLB offense is heavily dependent on the quality of the opposing pitching. You face a different starter each game, and starters have a lot of ups and downs in their performance.
There are other ways to analyze the offense though, like how many times have we scored 5 runs compared to other teams etc.
Baseball games don't need a damn time limit. I can't remember ever walking out of a ballpark thinking the game went too long.
Next thing you know they'll want to cut down on extra inning games. Do it like hockey does -after 10 innings, if you're still tied, the game is decided by a mini-home run derby. Now that's entertainment!
