  1. mvp is talking about Pedroia.
  2. You've been saying that for years though. Vulture.
  3. The bright side is that in his last start he threw 7 shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks. The start before that was decent. In his first two starts he was pounded.
  4. Correction: 1 and 1/3 seasons from Donaldson.
  5. When I opened the MLB.com there was a blurb about a Josh Donaldson deadline deal being a possibility this year. I didn't bother reading the story, but when I checked his contract status I realized it could easily happen. 2018 is his last arb year and walk year. The Jays are unlikely to retain him in free agency, and they may not be going anywhere this year, so it might be the appropriate time to get some young talent for him. If so the Sox might be one of the interested parties, though God knows what the Jays would be looking for...and God knows we don't have that much left to give. But it's another story to watch, at least.
  6. He was able to manage a little differently because of all the off-days, too.
  7. I'm going to challenge this point about Allen being left with easy saves against the weak part of the lineup. In the 2016 postseason, 6 of his 10 appearances were more than an inning. In the series against us he got 5 outs and 4 outs, and in both games the first hitter he faced was Big Papi. Is this assertion based on game logs or the way you remember things?
  8. My late father used to go berserk whenever he heard 'each and every' or the classic 'irregardless'.
  9. Actually it's a good post-and very concise.
  10. Another one of my favorites is when something is 'very unique'. Then of course there's 'extra virgin' olive oil.
  11. Allen may not have been elite throughout his career but I think he is clearly elite now. If you go back over the last year he's one of the best pitchers in the game. May 1-Oct 1/16 IP 57.2 ER 11 H 32 BB 22 K 78 2016 postseason IP 13.2 ER 0 H 8 BB 5 K 24 2017 (ridiculous) IP 10 ER 1 H 10 BB 1 K 20 Total IP 81.1 ER 12 H 50 BB 28 K 122
  12. Ha. Wasn't thinking of that at all. This is strictly for fun.
  13. OK, here's a little math question that relates to this. (I'm only asking because I think I know the answer. ) If an event has a 25% probability of happening in one sample, what is the % chance that it will happen once in 4 samples?
  14. Fans tend to be much more creative than managers, that's for sure.
  15. Yeah, the whole 'relief ace' thing seems like a great idea, but you do need those two elite arms. If you have a great closer but the rest of your bullpen is shaky, using your closer to protect a lead in the 7th inning may not be such a great idea. Because if whoever's behind him blows the game you end up with a loss and your closer may not be available next game.
  16. Farrell uses Kimbrel the same way virtually all the other managers use their closer.
  17. Now I think you're a closet Sabrmetrician.
  18. Here's something that'll really drive you crazy: Vaz is likely to have a horrible slump now to make up for the hot streak.
  19. Third time we've faced Bundy already. He was hard on us last time out.
  20. Pedroia is 6 for 14 with 2 walks in the 4 games since 'the incident'.
  21. Yes, you do have to take into account the arm you're running on.
  22. I wonder how much that has to do with Fenway's short left field.
