  1. Rutledge hasn't exactly been picking it.
  2. Marrero was left in the game for the same reason he started the game - our atrocious third base defense.
  3. I guess the 'never will be' part kinda went without saying.
  4. Yes, it's been established that Fenway is much more a doubles park than a home run park. A right-handed power hitter whose home runs tend to be of the high fly ball variety will have fun with the wall, of course.
  5. Yeah it takes more than 2 games to pull our power numbers out of the toilet.
  6. I suppose that's within your rights as a sports fan.
  7. There's really nothing wrong with some occasional panic or desperation in my books. Better than fiddling while Rome burns, as the saying goes.
  8. We have a poster here, Dojji, who maintains, rather vociferously, that the whole 'relief ace' thing is a bunch of hogwash, that you need 3 top-notch relievers, period, and without that you're screwed no matter what methodology you use.
  9. Kimbrel has been sensational so far this year. 2016 was definitely a subpar year for him.
  10. About what though.
  11. Agreed, but game circumstances sometimes do dictate the desperation move.
  12. I don't disagree. We've been discussing this issue for a while, of course, and Tito earned great praise for the way he deployed Andrew Miller last year. But Tito did also have a highly effective Cody Allen 'backing up' Miller, too.
  13. It's a game-by-game decision, there are no real rules to go by. Yesterday was a perfect opportunity with a day off today.
  14. When a pitcher is out there for 25 pitches or more, fatigue is a factor. They're like a boxer on the ropes trying to make it through the round.
  15. If you were treating every game like a must-win game, and forgetting about tomorrow, you would be using your closer to get the last 6 outs, not just the last 4 outs, every time you had a lead after 7 innings. Obviously that wouldn't work very well over the course of the season. Most managers don't like to use the closer for more than 3 outs very often-game logs will confirm that.
  16. Coming into this series the most runs the Sox had scored in a game was 8. In the last 2 games they scored at least 8 runs in an inning twice.
  17. Wouldn't it be less risky to leave him in?
  18. Although Sale could have gotten the win even if he didn't pitch the 6th.
  19. JBJ has had some epic slumps. It's a concern to say the least.
  20. Hey, is it too early to pat myself on the back for this prediction on May 1 that Leon would get hot?
  21. It looks like JBJ is no longer the starter, and that may not change unless Young stops hitting or someone gets hurt.
  22. I doubt they trade JBJ, but it looks he may be relegated to 4th outfielder status in favor of Young.
  23. Either can be used there. Makes no sense, of course. It's like the contradictory use of the word 'downhill'. 'It's all downhill from here.' 'Things really went downhill from there.'
