    Clearly it's not losing money. These tiny increases are more indicative of things leveling off, stabilizing.

    Sports fans are not fair or logical about these things. It's scapegoating - it's primitive, tribal, but it's a reality. You don't seem in any hurry to let Buckner off the hook.

    Schiraldi deserves some sympathy too IMO. He threw 55 pitches in that game. He was gassed. And he was throwing strikes, the Mets just managed to turn them into 3 singles in a row.

    Pesky isn't forgotten either. 'Pesky held the ball' is still one of the 2 best known facts about the '46 Series, 72 years later...the other being Ted Williams's weak numbers. Fans just don't forget those types of failures that can be directly tied to losing a championship. It's brutal but inescapable.

    The threshold goes from 189 in 2016 to 210 in 2021. That's 11.1% over 5 years, or about 2% compounded annually. That's tiny, really. And of course the penalties are steeper.

    I understand. But there has to be some correlation between the inflows and the outflows, and if attendance and TV viewership are going down, the inflows have to go down at some point. I thought that the modest increases in the tax threshold in the new CBA were an indicator that salaries were going to level off at least.

    The Red Sox have made the playoffs 10 times since JH bought the team and won it all 4 times - 40%. Luck or strength?

    I think the closest thing to analytics on analytics would be a poll on positive or negative response.

    I'm staggered by the predictions of $420 million for Harper and $390 million for Machado. If Harper gets that much it will smash the record currently held by Stanton by $95 million. How can baseball survive that kind of inflation? And both of these guys carry some significant question marks. They're not Mike Trout.

    The cheapest signed item is a Will Middlebrooks ball LOL - $40 as of today - there's a 20% off deal until midnight on everything except the 2018 World Series stuff.

    There's also some pretty cool signed stuff from legends of the past. Yaz, Papi, Pedroia, Mike Lowell, Pedro, Boggs, Rice, Lynn, Fisk, Luis Tiant. The Papi stuff is still quite pricey. Some of the items for guys like Lynn and Tiant are relatively reasonable. There's just one thing for Manny - a signed collage of his career highlights.

    There you go. We all have our different reactions. I don't really know if analytics will be good or bad for the game over the long run. Time will tell.

    Unofficially, the Red Sox are at 237.85. But the official numbers will come later after the bean-counters do all their due diligence.

    If you're thinking, where's the J D Martinez ball, you're right. There is not a single item of JDM signed memorabilia on the Sox website. Also no Porcello or Holt.
