  1. Melancon's contract is 4 years, 62 mill. But it was kind of weirdly structured: 14/20/14/14
  2. Because he thinks Eovaldi is going to be the closer, I guess.
  3. Pray tell us more.
  4. I think the Red Sox record since John Henry bought the team is as good as any team could possibly ask for. 17 years 10 playoff appearances (none of them Wild Card games) 4 championships If anyone expects anything better than that, they're dreaming.
  5. Not trying to put a damper on things, but not much happened at last year's meetings. This offseason was supposed to be a lot different. Let's see if it is.
  6. But if we can say that he 'hasn't added anything of value' - yet, the flip side is that none of the prospects he traded have amount to much - yet.
  7. And this is borne out by the fact that no team has even won back-to-back since the EE did it in 2000.
  8. Clay has never really had an attitude problem as such. But when he got injured in 2013 after a terrific start, and attributed it to sleeping the wrong way or some such thing, that was when he really started catching a lot of flak.
  9. That's dgalehouse's position, and it is shared by some others, certainly. Some of us see things differently. moon is probably the most objective guy on the whole board when it comes to evaluating Theo, Ben and DD. He shows no favoritism toward any of them. I was a huge fan of Theo, as you know, and I spent a lot of time defending him against his detractors on other boards. I was with Ben up until I saw our pitching staff at the start of 2015. That was when I first really questioned what he was doing.
  10. One way to approach the 2021 conundrum: Take the guys who are under team control in 2021 as per Nick's list above. Assume we keep Mookie (which I really think we will). Assume the other guys-Sale/Porcello/XB/JBJ are GONE. See what you have and the payroll numbers and how we might be able to fill the gaps.
  11. I really didn't think this was cherry picking. Allen has a career ERA of 2.98. He's had one bad season, last season. The question is what happened to him in 2018. That's what you need your scouts and analytics guys to figure out. Allen wouldn't be anybody's first choice. But if you can get him for a decent price he's worth looking into at least.
  12. Say what you want, he's better than any pitcher that will be signed to a minor league deal this year.
  13. Not really, when you consider that our pitching prospects generally either stink or something bad happens to them (like Groome). Kidding. Well, half kidding...sort of...
  14. Does this mean that Benintendi and Devers don't count as prospects?
  15. Yes, but you said 'everyone', and you said it twice in fact.
  16. They could 'easily' do it, really, by signing Machado and trading Andujar.
  17. I think some of this is pretty unfair. First of all, no one should be making him into an otherworldly savior, and I think very few if any of the knowledgeable Sox fans here have actually done that. As for Price, Sale and Kimbrel, why shouldn't he be given credit for picking the right guys? Spending a pile of money is no slam-dunk guarantee of success, as we all know. Under Ben we spent over $250 million on Hanley, Pablo and Castillo for a tiny sliver of net WAR.
  18. Probably so. LOL
  19. You’ve got money overflowing the coffers, but how does Hal feel about paying piles of luxury tax, and how does Cash feel about having Stanton and Machado or Harper on the books until doomsday? Lots of interesting questions to be answered.
  20. I think Yankee fans are going to be displeased if there aren't some more big moves this offseason. Personally I'm guessing there will be. The upcoming weeks are going to be very interesting indeed.
  21. One of the prevailing theories among Yankee fans is that they sign Machado and include Andujar in a trade for a starting pitcher such as Kluber or Bauer.
  22. I agree on all that.
  23. I agree. The Yanks could sign Machado, trade for Kluber, bolster the bullpen etc. It's gonna be another war this year, jackson.
  24. Dombrowski doesn't win in 2018 without the foundation set by Ben and Theo. Theo doesn't win in 2004 without the foundation set by Duquette. Ben doesn't win in 2013 without the foundation set by Theo. The statements are all true. But does that diminish the accomplishments?
