  1. Here's a question about the reset then. Let's say the Red Sox decide they do want to keep Betts, plus Sale and Porcello, or Sale and Bogey-3 of the big 5-and they are successful with that, and they think they can keep a contending team on the field. Can they actually do that and get back under the first threshold?
  2. Devers is going to be a stud, I think.
  3. Some interesting and occasionally surprising comments from Dierkes here on Harper & Machado: -He's very surprised how few teams have been in on them. -He thinks it's going to be a while yet before either sign. -He still expects them both to get deals surpassing Stanton's 325 million. https://www.jotcast.com/chat/live-chat-with-tim-dierkes-4328.html
  4. That Koji guy was pretty good.
  5. This is basically the same thing I've been suggesting. It doesn't necessarily make sense to do a re-set, if you can at least stay below that 40 million+ level and you've got a playoff contender.
  6. There's so much uncertainty that even JH and DD are probably uncertain what the hell the team will look like in 2020 to a large degree. Extending Mookie seems like the only slam dunk.
  7. It's not usually a good plan to have one of your top starters moving to the bullpen.
  8. Looks that way at the moment. Some Yankee fans still think a swoop is coming though.
  9. One thing's for sure, Larry's post was a failure.
  10. Correction: 2028 is a team option year so it's actually 9 years left. FWIW a lot of Yankee fans are less than enamored with Stanton's deal and think it has a lot to do with not going after Machado or Harper. One of the reasons is they think Stanton can't really play the field any more and will soon be a full time DH.
  11. Not being concerned with resetting is not the same thing as not being concerned with the total amount of tax and other penalties. If resetting makes sense for that particular year then sure. All I'm really saying is I don't think it necessarily makes sense to fixate on resetting as a goal for any particular year.
  12. It's a very good price right now. But it has 10 years to run, 2019-2028.
  13. Sure, but going $20M over generally makes it that much harder to get back under, unless you're signing everyone to 1 year contracts, which ain't happening.
  14. Looks like we really are goin' cheap on the bullpen this year. How cheap remains to be seen.
  15. My thoughts exactly.
  16. I'm not convinced there's going to be any tax reset at all. There might be a reduction in the payroll, certainly. The reset idea presupposes that you're going to take advantage of the lower rate to jack up the payroll all over again the next year. Maybe instead of that they reduce the payroll down to say 10 million over the first threshold. They would have to pay 50% tax on that, which is no big deal in the overall picture.
  17. The $22 mill AAV is quite reasonable. The only problem is it lasts until the year 2028.
  18. The highest AAV in history is Greinke's 34.4 mill.
  19. Aaron will be having some fun!
  20. Oh, I have the utmost confidence in Mookie, Cora and the hitting instructors, including J D Martinez.
  21. My bad. I failed to do my research.
  22. One thing to be noted about Bummer is that a big chunk of that missed time was due to an off-field injury which had nothing to do with his arm.
  23. Personally I think expecting him to improve on 346/438/640 is dreamtime.
  24. Personally I think Loria was pretty much a sleazeball, but I thought the Stanton contract made sense for them. The only option was just letting him walk away.
  25. Tulo's dreams of being an everyday shortstop again certainly look a little fuzzy LOL
