    I think it's a plus for them financially too because they collect insurance. He'll probably never suit up in pinstripes again.

    After their offseason of restraint, signing Keuchel would be quite the about-face. A big salary and at least 20% tax on top of it.

    Some skepticism of the fluctuations in defensive numbers is fair, but... WAR is a friend to a player like JBJ in a big way.

    There's a lot of luck factor in so many of these transactions. We got the reverse end of it with Smith and Thornburg.

    I have no idea how those 'bid' rules work. In the Jon Lester auction the numbers were reported very publicly that the Sox final bid was 135 million and the Cubs beat that by 20 million to seal the deal. And I don't think those numbers were ever disputed.

    Yes, he is one, though ironically he wasn't really a prospect any more. And the numbers seemed to be on Dave's side.

    Some of the guys DD traded may turn out to be valuable players. But as of this moment, there's not one you can point to and say we really miss not having them this year.

    Well, in the last 2 weeks or so we've had the following expenditures: Harper 330 million Machado 300 Arenado 260 Total 890 million That's not chump change.

    Arenado signed a nice hefty extension with the Rockies.

    Reports are that the workout went well and he might play Friday.

    I exercised my option to use the lower number they estimated. I think 10/392 is too much. It's a quantum leap from the Machado & Harper deals. Bogey is undoubtedly a goner in any case.

    I went to a game in Foxboro in the late Eighties when the Pats were really bad. It was sold out and the tailgate parties before and after were awesome. We went with some guys from the Boston area and one of the neighbors warned us what we were getting into beforehand. 'Have you ever been to Foxboro? It's a horrashow. 50,000 drunks!'

    It is a slight mystery about Pearce. Maybe they figured the 6.25 million they would have saved by not signing him wouldn't have gotten much in the way of a high quality reliever, so they might as well just throw stuff against the wall instead.
