  1. If you have all 0 WAR players I think you will win 60-65 games. Kimmi has the exact number. The 'R' stands for replacement level player, which basically means a guy who is just barely good enough to play in the majors. On a good team he's the type of player you call up when the regular gets injured.
  2. Let's go Poyner!
  3. Porcello has earned most of his contract, I think. He came up big in the playoff run this year. I'm glad he's with us another year as well.
  4. I think the only way Mookie gets traded is the same way Lester got traded - trade deadline 2020, if we're well out of it.
  5. I guess Mookie has answered the question of this thread. The answer is 'Not happening!'
  6. But what team is going to trade 3 players for one year of Mookie, when they'll have to pay him about $30 million and he's made it clear he wants to be a free agent?
  7. And the luxury tax structure magnifies those diminishing returns. If you go over the threshold 3 years in a row and then go over by more than 40 million in Year 3, each additional dollar you spend will actually cost you $1.95 with the tax and surtax. So you'll literally be paying double for everything.
  8. Not quite what I said. But signing Mookie for $400 million might qualify as stupid.
  9. Price did great with Vazquez, though, his last 3 starts in the 2018 playoffs.
  10. They didn't make it by being frugal. They didn't make it by being stupid either. Henry went over the LT threshold by $40 million+ last year and it'll be about the same this year. I'm guessing that's pretty much his limit.
  11. When you have the highest payroll in the game 2 years in a row, and are paying a fair chunk in luxury tax and surtax, and when that doesn't even include the 11 million you're paying a guy in Pawtucket, I think you're a pretty generous owner.
  12. The Yanks are going to add '2019 Spring Training Champs' to their '2018 Luxury Tax Champs' and '2018 Bullpen Champs' banners.
  13. Nothing extreme about SCM's takes. He did leave out the drooling, crying, facial tics and dizziness, though.
  14. A wee bit of an exaggeration, of course. Mookie is making $20 mill this year, and Pablo is on the LT payroll for $18.5 mill. So next year we could pay Mookie $38.5 mill and still have the same LT payroll. But as has been said, if we extend both Sale and Mookie, we're going to be paying them and Price $100 mill until the year 2022. That leaves $100-120 mill for the rest of the team, assuming that JH is still willing to exceed the first LT cap by $20-40 mill, which remains to be seen of course.
  15. You seem like a guy whose #1 sport is football and who tries to apply a lot of football knowhow to baseball. But we will see if the Sox ST record indicates that they're not ready for the regular season.
  16. You have to be realistic. That's simply not going to happen. At least there shouldn't be so much talk about collusion and work stoppages with these massive extensions for Trout and Arenado.
  17. Kimmi was being facetious.
  18. You sound like Harold Ballard.
  19. We could afford him if he was willing to sign an extension. But if he goes to free agency things might get ridiculous. If we do the extension with Sale, the pie obviously gets a couple of slices smaller. Then there's Bogaerts and Bradley and Benintendi... Who knows?
  20. I hate to say it but now it seems very conceivable that Mookie is a goner after 2020.
  21. Brasier was my vote.
  22. Trout has compiled 64.9 fWAR in 1065 games. Mookie has compiled 30.6 fWAR in 644 games. Trout 9.87 fWAR per 162 games. Mookie 7.70 fWAR per 162 games. These numbers suggest Trout's value is about 28% higher. He may also have a physique that's likely to last longer. Bottom line, Mookie is not quite at the same level.
  23. Wow. You don't even need a calculator to see that the rates of return are hefty.
