  1. There is no 'we' here, Denny. Everyone has own their views. I always assumed that if this cut-rate bullpen didn't get it done, DD would make a move or two.
  2. We had 3 Bill Buckner RIP threads started, so powers of observation are not a strong suit here.
  3. As notin said, this is the same thing they've been doing all along. Barnes pitched the 8th to face the tougher hitters. It's a little early to be trying him for 5 out saves.
  4. I wouldn't be upset if they try it, assuming Weber pitches well again.
  5. Cot's has our tax payroll at 239.2 mill, which is just 6.8 mill under the top threshold.
  6. Nunez adds nothing. But yes, a couple of prospects might get you a reliever who's an FA to be.
  7. Brasier was brought in to close the game. Cora had some confidence in his ability to get the job done. Do you pull your closer after a home run and a walk? I don't think so. How many times did we see Kimbrel do something like that before getting out of it? Plus the remaining options were not very attractive either.
  8. Neither are trade material.
  9. I agree with that view as well.
  10. Hembree's been fine too, for a 6th-7th inning guy, with a 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. And before last night's disaster, Brasier's ERA was 2.78. But it certainly looks like reinforcements are necessary.
  11. The thing is, every team is handcuffed by payroll restraints at some level. We have the highest payroll. That's why I say DD has it pretty good.
  12. Every other GM in baseball would like to be handcuffed the way DD is.
  13. jung, did you catch the story that home run production has exploded in Triple A ball since they started using major league baseballs?
  14. Yes. Baseball fans don't murder people like Buckner and Bartman. They settle for making the rest of their lives a living hell.
  15. Or the slightly more sophisticated take, 'Get busy Dave!'.
  16. How disgusting is that. Not much better than these nutjob soccer fans with vendettas against anyone who screws up.
  17. Betts and Betts, huh? You are one sharp customer.
  18. He sucked last night, but he did help win a ring last year, STORKSHIT.
  19. But your best hitter is supposed to be in the 2nd spot and you're supposed to have high OBP guys in the first two spots. I have to say that this stuff about the #3 hitter is the most counter-intuitive thing about lineup construction. It might be worthy of its own thread!
  20. No. But after drinking a quart of rum that night and another the next day, a friend said I looked like Sid Vicious.
  21. Absolutely surreal, and pure horror for a Sox fan. I was watching the game in a bar in Toronto. Just as the Mets were starting their really, the song that was playing was 'All I Need Is a Miracle'.
  22. All the circumstances conspired against him. You've got a team trying to break (arguably) the most famous championship drought in history. You've got a 2-run lead, 2 outs and nobody on, preparations for celebration being made in the locker room. And then the drawn-out drama of the Mets rally. And then, to culminate it all, you've got the most embarrassing play in baseball, the ball through the wickets, which makes an athlete look as silly as they can possibly look.
  23. Second base is not really a star position. You would probably have similar trouble naming really good ones from other teams.
