  1. That seems like a LARGE number at just about the halfway point. To determine how large you'd have to compare to other teams and to past seasons.
  2. Was Cora asked about that and did he give an explanation?
  3. So essentially we give up Shawaryn in return for $1 million. This is one of the most peculiar and unlikely trade ideas I've ever seen. Original, though.
  4. It's like JH called DD into the office after those signings and said 'Dave, do you realize you just spent your entire budget for this year?' Dave: 'Oh. Whoops. So much for the bullpen.'
  5. He got off to a flying start by signing Pearce and Eovaldi. Little did we know that was going to be it. It does almost seem like there was a mixup with the budget numbers or something.
  6. The 'rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic' analogy comes to mind.
  7. It's true. We keep waiting for the starters to 'hit their stride', but for the most part it just isn't happening. Sale has been an enigma. He had that stretch where he had 40 strikeouts without a walk and it looked like he was back to full awesomeness, but then started scuffling again. Such is baseball, I guess. Crazy freaking game.
  8. There were other reasons to think Eovaldi could be a better pitcher going forward than his track record suggested. He added a cut fastball to his repertoire and he had a dramatic improvement in his K/BB numbers. His ability to stay healthy is certainly a question, can't argue that one.
  9. I understand cynicism very well. You really take your cynicism about the state of baseball to the next level.
  10. I think it's a bit of an overstatement to say that the use of bullpens has changed dramatically since 2003. The 'bullpen game' and the 'opener' are changes, yes, but only the Rays are doing this consistently. What else has changed? Bullpens pitch more innings, because starters don't go as deep. That's about it.
  11. JD's OPS is .892 His career OPS is .887 He's 31, nearly 32. Expectations probably were raised to an unrealistic level last year. (Sounds like something Harmony would say, I know.) In a way this is good because it reduces the chances of him opting out.
  12. 2018 was his career year, I would say. He is now just slightly past prime and he probably does have a nagging back issue. A .950 OPS was a realistic projection for him. He's not far off that.
  13. 'Relief ace' is just the new jargon for a team's best reliever, whether or not they're the conventional closer.
  14. The overstatement in this thread is hilarious. If you didn't look at the actual numbers you'd think JD was in a flailing slump for weeks. If you do look at the numbers you see this: April OPS 895 May OPS 884 June OPS 896 Not the otherworldly numbers of last year, but solid and consistent at least.
  15. Good thing we didn't trade for Edwin Diaz.
  16. Not much of a list LOL
  17. Not sure I understand what the first part has to do with the second.
  18. It's not the same people making the statements though. moonslav is the one who said Cora is the greatest manager ever. moonslav is not the one calling Cora a bum.
  19. Agreed.
  20. Hobson probably shouldn't have been playing, though, considering the number of errors he had. And there are other examples of guys playing hurt and hurting the team by doing so. It's not always an easy call for a manager.
  21. Re-signing Kimbrel probably wasn't the best move at his price. Should have signed SOMEBODY though.
  22. Bingo. He has no better options than what he's been doing.
  23. I think if Cora was making that many bad/questionable moves there would be a lot more talk about it outside the game threads. But we all see things differently, that's for sure.
  24. A relief ace you can't use back to back is not a relief ace.
