Seriously. Rivera pitched 141 postseason innings and gave up 11 earned runs for an unbelievable ERA of 0.70.

It seems pretty unlikely to me that Rick's 5.61 ERA can be fully attributed to his spring schedule, which was not really scaled back that dramatically, considering he only pitched 4 innings less in ST games than the previous year. His 12 spring innings were more than a bunch of other major league starters who are doing fine. I think it's actually a little ridiculous at this point to blame it all on the spring schedule. It's almost the end of July. -

Denny, you seem to divide people into two classes, the ones who are good and the jabronis. It keeps things simple, that's for sure!

Because Ted was, alas, a little too focused on his personal achievements, and certain achievements were more highly regarded back then. Like that game-winning home run in the All-Star Game that he always regarded as one of the great moments of his career.

The whole reason the team did this was because they wanted to be 'cautious' given the way these guys were worked in the postseason - not just the innings but the high-stress relief innings they pitched on top of the starts. Let's take Porcello. Is the 'Occam's razor' explanation that this 'late start' screwed his season? Or is the 'Occam's razor' explanation that the team was right to be concerned, and that last postseason really did do a number on Rick? -

So you find RBI palatable as a 'real' statistic, but you dispute others like SLG and the concept of 'replacement player' and so on. Face it, this is all about your subjective personal preferences. You don't really have any support for any of it.

Very true. Minnesota and the Rays are the teams that are tumbling right now. It's possible Cleveland wins the division, Oakland is the first WC and we're battling Minnesota and the Rays for the second WC.

The MVP has been only average by Mookie Betts standards, that is. He's been way above average by MLB standards. Beni has been a very average player this year, but not a joke.
